I had my floor drain in my basement backing up so I called to have the blockage removed. The first tech(Devin 3580) sent from roto-rooter came and snaked the drain getting 70 foot of snake down the drain without an issue. However there was no movement in the backup. He pulled the snake out and said it looked like it was hitting something hard possibly the house trap. He said he could have another tech(mike) come to camera the line and see where the blockage was. This would take the 293$ job up to 315$. I figured for the extra 20 dollars why not find out where the blockage could be. Oh could I have been more wrong. On the next day mike came out and before even putting the camera in the drain said that he would only tell me where the blockage was if he was going to be able to dig it. At this point I felt like I was being scammed by paying extra to put the camera down. He then proceeded to snake the drain again with no luck. Then he put the camera in 7ft and said hes probably hitting the house trap and cant go any further. Long story short he said he was going need 11000 dollars to dig up my basement and start there. This was not even where the blockage was since he could get his snake out 70ft. I adamantly refused and he started talking about spotty work and how poorly my house was built. This to me was awful customer service and a huge scam to get the big job. The water authority came out and blew out the line where my line connected into the sewer. Problem was solved. I wasted 315 dollars for absolutely nothing. If i would have let him dig Id be out 11k with no problem fixed. I would not recommend them to anybody. If I had not known a little bit about plumbing and excavation I would have been out a ton of money. Devin the first tech was understanding and professional. The second tech Mike only cared about getting paid for the big bucks not customer service or retention.

I have a warranty through Homeserve USA. They cover $500 toward a new water heater. Mine sprung a leak on Saturday. I called Homeserve and they contracted Rotorooter to come out on Sunday. They did come and did give the estimate of the replacement. Their standard labor fee---period is $465. They were working at my place for about 6 1/2 hours. The guys did a great job and went above and beyond. I subtract one star because of an issue that arose post installation. When the water heater was first fired up they were concerned about "backdraft" and that I might have a clog in the chimney. What was suspicious is that there was cold air blowing down on the water heater from the flue when the water heater wasnt on. The customer copy of the receipt says I was advised to contact "chimney company to check chimney". Thus they were not allowed to fire up the furnace before they left. I went up on a ladder after they left and found the chimney and flue were perfectly unobstructed. I called someone else out to troubleshoot. He asked me "Did you ever start a fire in a fireplace? When you first start it you need to close your flue by about 80% otherwise cold air will blow the fire in toward you." He fired up the water heater and indeed there was a backdraft. After about 1 minute it reversed and it worked perfectly. (The flue was cold as the old water heater was off for a day and half. Cold air is heavy and was blowing down the flue indicating there there was no blockage. Once the flue warmed up a vacuum siphon was created and there was no backdraft and no carbon monoxide. ( I have two nearby CO detectors to monitor the situation.) Its unfortunate that a) I had to climb up onto a snowy roof and b) I had to call someone else out to tell me that nothing was wrong. It could have been avoided by leaving the water heater running for 1 minute...

Our commercial water heater in our restaurant stopped working so I called up Roto-Rooter to send somebody out to take a look. I told them over the phone that it was commercial sized water heater because I had called somebody else previous and was told not everybody can service 100 gallon plus water heaters. The technician arrived at about 3:30PM and the first thing I noticed was he did not bring in his tool bag, just a clipboard and pen. Then he took one look at the water heater ( did not even touch it) and basically told me he doesnt know how to fix it and proceeds to tell me to call another company that will be able to replace it for half the cost of Roto-Rooter and writes down the number to call. About 15 minutes after the gentleman left, I called Roto-Rooter up again and asked if they do in fact service commercial sized water heaters and I was told yes. So I tell her that a technician came out and told me otherwise. She places me on hold and when she comes back she told me the technician left a note on stating I had called another company and asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment. I then tell her in detail what happened and asked her why would he tell me something contrary to what she is telling me. She again asks me if I want to make another appointment while completely ignoring my question. I then asks her one more time if she is able to offer me an explanation; she flatly told me no, so I just said thanks and hung up. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional service from beginning to end. I waited for a technician just for him to tell me he doesnt know. And was offered no explanation upon my call back. Now its too late to get somebody else to come out today and maybe for the weekend. I got to hope that I can get by on 1 water heater until at least Monday.

House Trap & Pipe Replacement - what a nightmare! I must commend ERIC (manager), who I spoke with several times throughout this process - was very kind and patient, since I was quite upset at the beginning with this problem and he guided me along the way, making sure that I, the customer, was treated respectfully and fairly. Also, ANDREW who diagnosed the problem from the get go, DON, who saw the process thru and kept me informed, and ERIC, who did the actual work, along with his crew. All of these guys were great and very nice, professional and pretty much held my hand along the way! I know nothing about this type of work/problem -- so I was afraid Id be taken advantage of as a single home owner. I dont think that was the case. They were compassionate and fair I believe with the pricing and respectful of my home. This was a messy job and they made sure to always clean up daily upon leaving and assured me that the final cleanup would be done well also. That happened. The clean up crew, MELANIE (especially - who made sure everything was decontaminated and cleaned thoroughly and basement in order afterwards) and RODNEY. So thank you so much, I appreciate your hard work.
