I had my hair done yesterday, and I am very impressed with the work they do, I had micro braids done and I am very happy with the way my hair was done. The staff members are very kind and curteous, professional, and a job well done. The environment is clean. I highly recommend this place. The most wonderful thing about this place is that every customer is important to them. I saw no one sitting and waiting for long periods of time . As soon as I walked in I was greeted warmly and my wait time was less than five minutes. And they washed and condition my hair. Most braiding place that I have been to in the past do not wash your hair. You have to do it yourself but they did everything. And I love the products they used in my hair. I cant say enough about this salon. Just that I am happy and please with what they did to my hair and the other women that had locs done to their hair Looked Good. Everyone left with a smile and no long waiting. Good job ladies.

I needed an emergent retwist and Lorraine was nice enough to come in at 830 to accomadate me. I had to be in and out because I had to work. She washed and retwisted my hair in 1 the rest was dryer time. This was by far my best salon experience. She was very professional, knowledgeable and just awesome. She gave me advice on my locs in a nonjudgemental way ( I started my own locs she even honestly complimented my work. I was so nervous to allow someone else to manage my locs but Lorraine. did a great job! I am so pleased I found her!

I decided to have a hair stylish do my hair for my wedding. And was I lucky I spotted this place! I came here twice already... Once just for a style a month ago but second time was today and was a full maintenance and design. And Shadira was my stylist she really great at what she does!!! Id highly recommend her no doubt! The staff here is awesome and very friendly!!! I normally do my own hair but I really like this place and I would definitely go back to them anytime!!!

Was looking forward sending my daughter here so I called to set appointment young lady was polite but explained that their policy for children are 8 and up asked did my child have braid salon experience I answered yes and she goes bi weekly to get her hair done young lady responded thats what clients say and their child comes in screaming. I found that very rude to compare my child to someone elses without meeting her very RUDE!

This hair Salon is truly Philly Gem! The owner is a real delight, so personable and truly cares more about the health and condition of a clients hair then a dollar. The staff is awesome and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting! If you have trouble growing your natural hair, starting locs, twist, or you want a professional versatile hair style to last any occasion, Island Design is the place to be!

I went there this morning. My experience was great. The shop is nice and clean in the inside. The salon staff are very nice and friendly. The shop owner does a very good job at running the place. She made sure that I was taken care of and that I got the service that was needed. My loc maintenance was done very quick and sufficient. The prices arent bad either.

One of the best shops Ive ever been to comfort wise (barbershop or hair salon). Been coming for almost 3 years and I refuse to even look into another. The stylists are all friendly and highly skilled in their craft. Easy access wether driving or catching public transportation. Also the prices for my locks are pretty fair.

The price of the services are reasonable and I love the work ethic of the owner, Lorraine. She ensures that the customer isnt kept waiting and she is very friendly and full of humor. The location is easy to find and its great that theres a place to park for free right before the salon. That is rare in Philly and a plus!

Had my hair done 2 months ago by the stylist Mimi, it was the first time in years I got my hair braided and let me tell you I will definitely be getting my braids done again, not one came out and they protected my edges so well, the price was reasonable and I was in the chair and out in 3 1/2 hours! Had a 10:00 am appointment, which was also the time the salon was supposed to open. I arrived at the salon at 9:45 a.m. And the doors were still locked and no one arrived to open the doors until 10:10 a.m. So I ended up just leaving.
