As a resident of the "Graduate Hospital" neighborhood, I believe strongly that one should support, i.e., patronize local merchants and so I made an appt for a full highlight and cut at Deluxe. I had gone to Deluxe Salon once before for the same services and was satisfied-so much so, that I made an appt for my daughter the following day. Thus, when I needed my hair cut and highlighted again, I couldn t recall the name of the stylist who I d had before and made the "mistake" of not asking the receptionist to look up who it was and by chance was assigned to Matt. The outcome was a nightmare-my highlights were brassy, almost orange and at least 1/2 " of dark brown roots remained on my hairline around my forehead !! I hadn t noticed how bad a job he did at the salon as I had not requested styling, post-highlight and cut and my hair was still wet. The bill came to $240 and then, even before I had a chance to fill out the charge slip, he asked me to tip him!! I paid him and stupidly added a measly amount like $5.00 in a lame attempt to respond symbolically to his audacious and unbecoming behavior. Having been in retail for many years, I am always taken aback by the sheer ignorance of a merchant who lacks customer service skills which are so important in retaining customers and getting referrals. When I got home and my hair had dried, I was shocked by how bad the highlight was-it was a mess!! I called Matt the next day to tell him that I needed him to fix it. He begrudingly agreed to make an appt to remedy what he had done. When I went back, he seemed very angry and then proceeded to accuse me of slighting the prior hair stylist I d had the first time I went to Deluxe!!-(I honestly didn t remember her name and really didn t think anyone would remember me as it had been at least 7 months since I had been to the salon and I really did not know the extent of such heresy)! In any event, he became, to my amazement, incredibly indignant despite the orange tones and dark roots right in front of him. (I really became a little uneasy as he seemed a little mentally unbalanced and hoped that he was just really lazy and not very good at his chosen profession as he certainly was not concerned with the quality of his work). I had simply requested that he look at the the orange color and dark roots and to pls fix it. He became livid and said: "perhaps Deluxe Hair Salon is not for you!!" -essentially implying that he had no intention of repairing the damage. I, then asked him for a refund of the ridiculous amount of money he had charged me for the very obvious inferior work he had done and then, he totally lost it and refused to do anything! Mary, another stylist,(who fortunately was there and witnessed this little scene) was so gracious and very kindly and quietly offered to fix my hair at a later date. We spoke a couple of times in an attempt to make an appt but I was so uncomfortable and didn t really want to go into the salon again, fearful of encountering Matt- I decided not to pursue her offer. In conclusion, my advice is do not make an appt with Matt and if you are going to Deluxe Hair Salon for the very first time; ask for Mary. She is a truly sweet and considerate person with excellent customer skills!! And I surmise intuitively, a very talented colorist and stylist.. As for Matt, I am going to file a complaint about his shoddy work and bizarre behavior with the Cosmetology Liscensing Board in Harrisburg and with the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Complaint Hotline in Philadelphia.

I went to Deluxe salon for the first time today, and I could not be more thrilled with the haircut I received from Bobby. I started out with elbow-length hair, told Bobby he could do what he wanted (as long as I could still pull it back), and I left with an amazingly awesome above-shoulder graduated bob and side-swept bangs. It fits my wash-and-go regimen perfectly (for the first time ever, I left a salon without any annoying product in my hair!), actively looks like a "cool haircut" and will definitely grow out well. The salon is low-key and clean--a great environment to relax. Bobby is really friendly and incredibly meticulous; his work far exceeds any of the expensive cuts Ive had in Manhattan over the past 5 years. Reasonable prices for truly superlative work!

I went to Mary for 11 years, following her from her old salon. Ive since moved to Denver and Im terrified to let anyone else touch my hair. She cut and highlighted my hair beautifully every time. I had it long, short, with layers, in a bob, you name it. It looked natural and always grew out well and I got tons of complements. Ive recommended her many times over the years and without fail every single person loves their cut, color, highlight, whatever. My mom used to drive three hours for a visit and always schedule an appointment with Mary. She is a great listener, a perfectionist, absolutely a genius with color, plus a lovely person!!

1) they cut my hair, my daughters and my mothers hair beautifully. My dad doesnt have much so they just give him free compliments. 2) My parents BOTH have cancer and they like provided haircuts and snacks for a day to raise money for cancer in their names. 3) They are fun, and cool people to have in the neighborhood, running a spectacular business- with affordable rates - 1/2 of the price of most NY salons, and about a 1/3 less then most Philly salons.

I have been going to the same stylist for years & this was the first time that I went somewhere else for a cut so naturally I was pretty nervous but Alyson gave me one of the best haircuts Ive ever had! Im kindof picky about my layers but she was so patient in making sure I was happy with the final look, I definitely recommend this place. Great customer service, plus you get a discount for your first visit!

I have to add to all the other positive reviews: Im picky about my haircuts, and Ive had difficulty finding a good salon. Maria and Matt are both fantastic and the prices are reasonable. Lately, Ive needed conservative cuts for formal business interviews, and Maria stepped up to the plate. Deluxe is a little out of the way for me, but well worth the trip.

I always love getting my hair cut by Kyra at Deluxe - she always does a great job, and the environment is clean, relaxing, and very neighborhood-y. The only point to mention is that Kyra likes to do really detailed work, so be prepared to spend some time at the salon - not a bad thing, since it always looks great, just be ready!

Walked in at 1pm on a Saturday and asked to get my sidecut shaved. Literally the only thing I wanted done. She had finished with a client and no one was in there waiting. I was turned away because they were short staffed. Unbelievable.

Went to Mary when she was at Saturn Club and followed her to Deluxe. Love this salon and the people...The Salon has a cool retro feel, Mary is personable and excellent at what she does- amazing with color. Highly recommended.
