For a week there had been water in my basement and I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. The pipes in the ceiling were dry and pipes along the basement walls were dry. I cleaned up the water. On the morning of October 13, 2009, I came down to the basement before I went to work and the back part of the basement was flooded again. Again I checked the pipes—all dry. I’m cleaning the water up and my mother comes down and puts a load in the washer. As I’m down there cleaning up the water, lo and behold from the drain floor I see water coming up out of it. I’m saying to myself “oh no the drain is backed up.” It’s funny because the very first business I thought of was Roter Rooter. Their song was going through my head. I finished cleaning up the water and I went to work. I’m sitting at work paging through the yellow pages looking at the different plumbing businesses pondering which one I should call. All the time I am looking at the different plumbing businesses, the Roter Rooter song is still playing in my head. I get a call from my mother and she tells me the basement is flooded again because my son took a shower. I hang the phone up and grab the phonebook and continued looking through the yellow pages with the Roter Rooter song playing over and over again in my head. “Okay that’s it!” I said to myself. “My mind has its mind made up. Roter Rooter it is.” I called Roter Rooter and within an hour they are at my house. I really didn’t expect service that fast and was pleasantly surprised. The technician from Roter Rooter introduced himself to my mother and took the time to explain everything my mother was signing. He proceeded to look over everything and stated to my mother I had a main sewer line blockage and explained to my mother what had to be done and gave the price. He called me at my job and told me what was wrong and that it was their standard procedure that they have to have payment upfront before any work can be done—which is understandable. I gave him my card information and he explained that he had to run the card through before he could begin work. He was very polite and respectful. As he was working, he explained everything he was doing to my mother as he was doing it. He wasn’t in a rush to get it done. He took his time. He was working in the basement and he went outside in the front of the house. He worked on the main sewer line until there was a good flow going through the pipes. After he finished the job, he took time out to talk to my mother on how to keep from blocking the pipes again. As a first time user of Roter Rooter, I would recommend your company to anyone who has a main sewer line problem or any other kind of plumbing problems. I am a very satisfied customer.

So I bought a fridge and the crack team lowes sent wouldnt hook the fridge up because the shut off valve isnt directly behind the fridge. When I tried to hook it up myself the water line did not fit the valve on the back of the fridge. Rather than waiting until Monday when my local plumber is open I decide to call Roto Rooter based off their 7 day a week service. I speak to the scheduling rep and am given the 8-12 time frame. The day of the service I get a call at 10:30 telling me the rep is still at a job but was told he would still be there by 12, at 12 no rep is there so I call. Im then told in so many words "he will get there when he gets there". Then the rep comes, he quotes me $495 to replace the whole line, which isnt really necessary as the line is copper and in very good condition. I ask him if theres an adapter that can be installed to make the line comparable and he said there is and that solution would be $250. $250 for what realistically would be a 15 minute job, I know lawyers that dont charge that much an hour! Needless to say I declined their services. A few hours later I ran into the owner of my local plumber at the grocery store and he said most likely $70 worst case scenario $100. From being late without calling to essentially price gouging I was very displeased with my Roto rooter experience and plan on sticking with local plumbers from here on out. Update 7-19-17 A local plumber in shillington replaced the entire line and installed a new shut off valve for $180.25. Update 7-23-17 Roto rooter responded to this review and then emailed me back and said they would "look into the matter", never heard back from them.

Had a main line backup in the home that we had just purchased two weeks ago. We knew it wasnt something that could be fixed with a can of Liquid Plumber and a prayer, but new to the area, we didnt have a good handle on who to use until a neighbor suggested that we try Roto-Rooter. - Easy to reach and easy to schedule, they had a man and a truck here in about an hours time. The technician (Mike White) was pleasant, well-groomed and professional. He took the time to listen and understand about the nature of the problem. He treated his work area with respect and got busy. Not at all happy just to jam something down they pipe and be on his way, he carefully camera-inspected our pipe - showed us the problem areas - made sure that things were clear to the street - then inspected again with his camera and ensured that everything was flowing smoothly. Finally, he put everything back the way it was - cleaned the bathroom floor and toilet - gave us some care advice and explained Roto-Rooters 6 month guarantee. Sure -- maybe some bargain basement Benny could do the job for a few bucks less; but the peace-of-mind and professionalism that comes from a guy like Mike White and a quality outfit like Roto-Rooter is well worth it. Hey, sewer problems are never fun and I sincerely hope that I never have to see these guys again. But if I ever do have an issue, theyre the ones who are getting the call.

The old adage, "You get what you pay for" could not be more true with my experience with Roto-Rooter. I tried three other well known plumbing services in Wilmington, Delaware prior to calling Roto-Rooter. The other plumbing services price was nice but their work was shoddy at best. In one case they were a no-show and after waiting for an hour past our scheduled time the only way I discovered they were not coming was because I called to find out where they were. The other two plumbers showed up to clear a 50 feet long 4" sewer line going out to the street with a handheld snake that is meant to use on a sink. Then I scheduled a time with Roto-Rotor, they called 30 minutes prior to showing up, they showed up on time, and they used some very expensive professional equipment, including bringing in another flatbed truck with the jet cleaning equipment mounted on the back of the truck. Matt and Mike K. were high energy, knew what they were doing, committed to stay on the job until it was fully completed to my satisfaction, and were very willing to answer all my questions in complete detail.
