Such a bad experience with color. I used a groupon for a cut and highlights with Jackie. Jackie was very nice, and the cut wasnt bad, but thats about where my good experience stopped. I told her I wanted my roots to stay the same color and to start them further down and mix them up, so I wouldnt have to worry about the high maintenance of normal highlights, and I wanted them to look very natural. I also told her I wanted ash blonde color, NOT golden or reddish. I dont think she paid much attention at all to what I wanted color-wise, because they were chunky golden/strawberry blonde highlights that started at the root everywhere. AND it was many shades lighter at the top than the middle and you could hardly tell there was any blonde at the bottom... basically the opposite of what I asked for. She also assumed I part my hair on one side all the time so made that side a lot thicker than the other side with the highlights... she never asked me how I part my hair (I switch it up about every day and often wear it up, so it just looked stupid being way more blonde on one side than the other when she was finished). I immediately told her I didnt like it and she told me I could go home and see how I like it after a couple days and then come back to get it fixed if I still didnt like it. When I did get home, I noticed a huge splotch on my very nice cashmere sweater from the toner she used. I called the salon and told them my issues with the color and with the stain, and told them that I would prefer a different stylist to correct my color since I really didnt trust Jackie. The manager told me NO, if I wanted them to pay for the correction I HAD to use Jackie. Why would I want her to fix my hair when shes the one who messed it up so poorly in the first place? Then, they said I could EITHER talk to them about the sweater, OR getting my hair fixed. What?! They said if I wanted them to do anything about the sweater I would need to show my original receipt and bring the sweater in for them to inspect. Who keeps receipts for all of their clothing? And the manager also told me not to expect full value if I was able to do that because "clothing depreciates just like cars." Cashmere? False. My sweater wouldve lasted another 20 years if it hadnt gotten a huge stain on the sleeve. Needless to say, I did not go back to get my hair fixed, and instead had to shell out $220 to another salon to fix it all. At least the other salon did a good job, though. Ive since heard many bad things about Stuart Laurence... When I was getting my hair fixed the girl who was doing it even guessed it was Stuart Laurence based on my experience. Would NOT recommend Stuart Laurence to anyone.

I love these guys! What you get for your money is a steal. Other salons of Stuart Lawrences caliber are more expensive and let you walk out with unstyled wet hair....unless you pay extra! This salon gives you shampoo, deep condition, cut and a style all for cost of cut! Its a really good deal. And Im a teacher so I dont have a lot of money to splurge. Ive had my naturally curly hair treated like a queen. Ive gone to different stylist at Stuart Lawrence due to my hectic schedule and no one has ever let me down, from fabulous "curler brush" blowouts from Sam, to edgy cuts from Selena-I love my salon. Super stylist Butch has been on hand to give advise when needed with color too. Ive had natural highlights, edgy red tips, and all over dark brown. They will not let me leave looking anything less than amazing even if I didnt schedule a color correction when I accidentally dyed my own roots purple...oops. They fit me in and made me feel very important. The environment is comfortable and chic. The collegiality is something Ive never witnessed in a salon before where everyone takes care of their customers AND each other. Its very refreshing. I recently had the Keratin treatment done and love it! I was reluctant because of the price but after my referral credits brought the cost down I went for it and love it 2 months later. I will definitely do it again. Ive also had my eyebrows done and have always loved them. I take my 4 year old daughter to get her haircuts done with Ryan. She loves the special treatment and I love knowing that her naturally curly hair will be taken care of too. Bottom line-the stylist are all wonderful and consistent which is very important to me and my curly hair.

Customer service is terrible. Brian (receptionist) hung up on me twice after asking what the cancellation policy was. When I called back the 3rd time to ask to speak to the owner I was told I could leave a message. I was told the owner does not have an email or voicemail, but I could leave the complaint about him to him. I called back 4 days later (like I was told) to realise my number had been blocked. The receptionist blocked my number so that I could not speak to the owner. I have been going to this business for many years and now I cant even call to discuss the problem. I called from another number and got through to the owner. Instead of trying to rectify the situation he also explained how they were "jaded"by all tbe customers who cancelled on them all the time. I explained that I had made my appointment and then needed to know since I was coming in from out of town. I have never cancelled on them before. He then asked me " why would I ask if I wasnt going to cancel " . I asked him if he was serious. He never addressed the fact that his receptionist hung up twice and then took it upon himself to block my number. If you are interested in this hair salon then ask them about the cancellation policy, and see how you are treated. Hopefully better than I was. I am new to Charleston and had to find a new stylist after my relocation. I was SUPER apprehensive about purchasing the Groupon and trying out Stuart Laurence after reading some of the reviews, but the deal was too good to pass up and I work nearby so I figured Id give it a shot. Jackie was my stylist and was EXCELLENT! She was attentive, we went over everything at the beginning of my appointment and she was very friendly. I had a cut and full highlight with two shades of blonde to maintain some natural look to the color and it turned out perfectly. I had also put off getting my hair done for longer than usual so my regular cut/style was definitely grown out. I showed her an old photo and she did a fabulous job with the cut. I noticed that several people were annoyed about how much hair they lost on a cut, but I feel like that happens with any stylist, even my old stylist who took care of me from 4th grade to now 28 yrs old. Jackie made sure to check with me multiple times on length before she took the scissors to my hair. She even checked with me before putting me under a dryer to see if she could feed my meter. I also was greeted by a friendly front desk person and met the owner whom I found to be very friendly and funny. The other staff seemed welcoming, social and smiley. I believe if you go in with an open mind you will not be disappointed. While it is expensive, if you can afford the regular price it is well worth it. Glad I found a new hair home!
