We had BAD engine trouble on the road between Asheville, NC and Charleston, SC (our intended destination). Like smoke coming out from under the hood, the engine overheated off the charts, and the engine died every time wed get under 20 mph. My wife was on the phone pretty much yelling "Mayday! Were coming in hard..." and Al at Harris told her to bring it on in. Well, the truck died in the lot at Harris, and two things stand out to me the most about this place. Number one, Al didnt try to sell us anything. It turned out the engine was shot and replacing it would have cost about the same as the truck was worth. He warned us ahead of time that it might not be worth it. Number two, he and his staff did a phenomenal job of calming down the two of us, and our two youngsters (4 and 2) on a 95 degree day when wed never driven in SC before, not to mention Spartanburg. He was able to calmly explain our options, reassure us, and even called up a hotel and a rental car company for us (it was approaching 5 pm and we didnt know what to do...). We ended up renting a car and then leasing a new one in Charleston, so Harris didnt actually perform service for us. But I would absolutely trust them to do so if we ever needed it, since they gave us truthful information, validated our concerns and didnt try to rip us off...just good service and help when we REALLY needed it, like when we were on vacation far from home (Chicago) and our truck just died on us.

I brought my 2000 VW beetle into Harris to diagnose a check engine light, which they informed me was due to a part misfunctioning on the engine. The first quote on the part was in the 300 range, which I accepted; they then called me back and informed me that the part would be in the 400 range. At that time I informed them that they could put my car back together and that I would be picking my car up. I then took my car to a VW mechanic in Greenville and they ran a diagnoses on the engine. They informed me that the check engine light was due to a loose hose, which they reconnected turning off the light. Two months later I took my car in for its routine oil change and noticed that the VW engine cover was not on my engine. I called the last few mechanics that had dealt with my car and discovered that Harris still had the part, that they had forgotten to replace quite a large part, and that if I wanted to I could come by and pick it up. I would suggest not to use a mechanic that offers service that is not required, and that forgets to put your engine completely back together.

Harris has been nothing but outstanding in service and quality. They gave me estimates up front on 2 different cars. Gave me options on what i want to think about doing before i made any decisions. They called and got other estimates for me when something was going to be pricey on a transmission. Theyve looked into everything i had questions about, they diagnosed my cars honestly and the prices have been extremely reasonable and competitive. Theyve worked around MY schedule and are extremely friendly. I will be referring my friends and family to Harris and will be going to them in the future with any automotive problem that i have. Ive dealt with different mechanics in the past and they have offered me the best experience ever. Al and all his guys there are super!!! A+++++

Ive taken it to Harris 3 times and being that Im a young female I know for a fact that theyve gotten over on me. I have an 02 Honda and they charged me $130 to fix my lock that started to sink in the door, they charged me $400 for brakes, and this last time I was told itd be $120 for a new radiator hose. I dropped it off on a Monday and agreed to pick it up in a week on to get to next Monday and they had no papers on my car meaning they didnt know they even had it. They "got to work" the same day and told me itd be ready at 6 but I get there and theyre saying its going to be $369 only for my "new radiator pipe" to bust in the next month! Im convinced they get over on people and Im HIGHLY dissatisfied. Id say fix your car yourself before taking it to them!

I just moved to SC last year and I was looking for an auto place in the area that would be upfront with me and not try to take advantage of me and thank goodness I found Harris Automotive! I love them and every time I go in its like talking to family. They are so willing to talk you through everything and help you if you need a ride while your car is in the shop and one time I had no clue I overpaid and they sent me a card with a check in it. Just real honest and down to earth people! Id def recommend them to anyone!

Used Harris Automotive for over 20 years with 8 different cars from Jeeps & Buicks to Hondas. They have always been reasonable, dependable & trust worthy. With their software they keep up with each car repair record. Extremely important in maintenance.Each time l carry a car in they have a courtesy check of the entire auto. Hard to beat!

This isnt a review of the service as much as it is an employee named Cory. A kitten was trapped in the box that pulls the gate open and closed, and the chain crushed it a little when the fence turned on. Luckily an employee helped us free the kitten, who is now doing 100% fine. I just wanted to thank him for caring so much.

Harris automotive is great. Very trust worthy and they did a free inspection on my car and gave me a list of what needs repaired or what to keep on eye on. They were not pushy on trying to force me into getting work done on my car. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a great automotive service.

They are always friendly, their prices are fair, and they always allow me to ask as many questions as I want without making me feel like I am a bother. On top of great service...they vaccumed out my car!!!

Have brought Mr. Harris a variety of cars to be worked on and each time the repair cost was fair and work was more than exceptional and very prompt. if an issue arose that wasnt forseen it was quickly dealt with and fixed. i would highly recommend this shop for any of your repair or maintenance needs!!!

I took a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am to them for a heating problem and they told me it was blown head gasket and i should junk the car. I took it somewhere else and my radiator was cracked. ...needless to say they replaced it and now i hv AC & HEAT and im still driving it!
