I have never once left a negative review of any organization, however Merrell Home Improvements is the worst contracting company, or any company in general, I have ever dealt with and an absolute disaster from Day 1. They provided a 4-8 week timeline to start the project and after more than 6 months they still have not completed our addition. We had an unusable backyard for 5 months as they tore down our fence and removed our deck, but failed to start the project. The customer service could not be worse. They provide a code of Ethics, where they ultimately violated every tenet of that code except for the warranty, however I am sure if it came down to it they would have no problem violating that as well. It talks about customer satisfaction above all, but I have had to continuously ask for project oversight and ask just to get people to show up and work. They claim to clean the job site daily, but I had to have the owner come out at one point to address the amount of garbage on the site which was removed, but there has not been consistent monitoring and there is now more garbage everywhere. I have plenty of pictures reflecting that disaster. We have gone from Nathan to Robert to Bo and I could not speculate as to who our foreman supposedly is. The code talks about yard sign promotions and yet someone just stuck a sign in our yard, assuming we wouldnt mind, without every offering any discount or reward as their code states. I see commercials offering military discounts and HVAC upgrades for additions, yet everyone in that office knows I am in the military and that was never offered. It is also something that I would never have asked for as it is something that is done more out of courtesy and respect (also in the code of ethics). We were consistently lied to with promises of daily communication and completion deadlines. I have maintained records of all these promises that were not kept. The last straw was coming home to a house that reeked of cigarette smoke and ultimately catching the contractors smoking inside of our new room. This is disgusting and unacceptable. We have submitted complaints to the Better Business Bureau, The Tennessee Board of Licensing and the Department of Health for their violation of the Tennessee Non-Smokers Protection Act. They have made every excuse possible, but I would feel terrible if another individual had to deal with a similar experience with this organization.

On 29 August 2011, Merrell Home Improvement came to my house for an estimate to tear-off and re-shingle my roof along with repairing about 30ft of fascia. The quote for the repairs was $6,200 and I paid a down payment of $3,100 by check. The representative could not give me an exact date of when they would be out to do the work on my house but guaranteed me that the work would be completed by 9 September 2011. My house was in a contract for sale, pending the completion of the roof. I had informed the representative of this issue and told him that I absolutely had to have the work completed by the time he had guaranteed. He assured me that my house was small and would only take one day to complete and there would be no issues. The contractors came out to my house on 8 September 2011 and started the work. They were only there a couple of hours and only completed about 1/4 of the roof. They came again on 9 September 2011 and completed another 1/4 of the roof. I called the representative and told him that the work was not completed by the guaranteed time and he assured me that the work would be done on Saturday, 10 September 2011. I stressed to the representative that I needed the work done so I could have the appraisal completed to close the sale of my house. The contractors did come to my house on 10 September 2011 but did not complete the work. They also left a small portion of my roof unfinished with exposed wood showing over the weekend. It rained fairly hard at my house on Saturday 10 September 2011, and I had exposed wood showing on my roof!! The owner of the company was supposed to call me on 12 September 2011, so we could discuss the issues. I called the representative several times informing him that I had yet to receive a call from the owner. The representative finally told me that the owner would call me first thing in the morning on 13 September. As of 1047, 13 September 2011, I have still not received a call and the work is still not finished. The rate lock for my home buyers has expired and I have lost the sale. If you want you work to be done in a timely manner and at a resonable price GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Garbage customer service... Called for three weeks trying to get an appointment for repairs on a home Im attempting to buy with a rural development loan only to have the contractor assigned not show. Called back to reschedule and was told someone would be in contact with me later that day, called back the next business day to again try to reschedule after no returned phone call the days before. Was told I would again be contacted early the next day... after no call by 330pm I again called back to see what the hold up was... I was told the owner(Mr. Merrell) had personally reviewed my work order and had told his employees I couldnt receive an estimate on any work until I had closed the loan... after explaining what a rural development loan was and that the estimate was needed to close the loan so funds could be added to the purchase price I was then told Mr. Merrell was out of town and wouldnt return for over a week and that i was out of luck... I suspect these idiots wasted 3 weeks of my time, pushing my closing date back by weeks, all because they were too lazy to go do an estimate... I at least hope this is the case and the owner of the company isnt knowingly condoning this level of crap customer service... I might have to look a little harder for a home improvement company but I will definitely NOT choose Merrell ever again...

Horrible!!!!!!!!!! Horrible!!!!!!!! Experience!!!!!!!!!!! I had met with a man to discuss repair options with my pillars on my house and was told by Randy that my pillars would be adjusted and reset because they are crooked (which is why I was having the work done in the first place). And when the guy came out to my house (his name was Joel) to do the pillars, he left the siding on the side of my concrete porch, damaged the concrete, and then the company refused to fix it or reimburse me my money. The owner, Jennifer started yelling at me and telling me I was being rude because I was upset the work was not done the way it was supposed to be done and what I was told would be done and what was written in my contract!!!!!! Never go with this company!!!!! They are horrible to work with and will steal your money!!!!!!

The positive first, they do really good work, I have no complaints with quality, back deck is sturdy and my basement walls have been dry since they resealed them. The Negative, if you let them have free rain they will do whatever they want and not what is on the contract. For most people not a problem since they are home, I was out of town and when I got back they willingly and knowingly gave me a 12 foot patio, contract was specific about 15 foot, no phone call, text message or email. It was not until I started asking questions that they gave me any explanation at all. Also it took them 5 months to do a job they swore would of been done before I got home. And all I got was excuses about weather and availability which I understand, but not 5 months. Beware, they are good, but you have to watch them.
