i went to midas today to have my oil changed, tires rotated, and a minimal possible exhaust leak investigated i thought maybe had started 2 weeks prior to my visit. the mechanic from the garage approached me to first try to sell me wiper blades, air filter and an unnecessary injector service. i declined those. i worked for 6 years as an ase certified mechanic with an associates degree from an accredited automotive program in troy ny. during my time as a mechanic i also worked at a midas shop in colonie, ny. im familiar with their sales tactics. they told me the flex pipe was where the leak was from which i said i want to see before approving the repair. an exhaust leak is almost always easily visible to the naked eye as there is a trail of black from where the exhaust is escaping. i found it extremely unusual that a clean area of freshly exposed aluminum was where they indicated the leak was from. it clearly looks in the picture i have sent like a cut was made in the part. this is not a break caused by wear and tear or corrosion that finally gave way. this is a problem created by the mechanic in the shop today while on the lift. this was something that could not have been the cause of my suspected issue for the past 2 weeks. i did not agree to this repair as it required replacement of the most expensive possible component in the exhaust system being that it would include 2 catalytic converters. after i said no to this repair and returned to the office, the manager popped back in and told me he had an "alternative" repair. he claimed he could manufacture a piece of flex pipe which would not require a replacement of the very expensive part. i also could buy the part elsewhere and have them install it in their shop. i told him i did not appreciate their dishonesty and wondered why they tried to sell me the most expensive possible repair without giving any alternatives. it speaks to their high level of dishonesty. i declined at this time. when i left the shop i was stunned to find they had made my exhaust problem much worse as my car now sounded like a tank. the sound before was not audible to an untrained ear but i thought maybe i heard something as a trained mechanic. now i have a problem which they have created in my car i must have repaired. the freshly exposed aluminum now makes complete sense as they intentionally damaged my car to create the most expensive possible repair for what i had them look into. if i had video of them doing this i would submit it with this complaint after i first visited the state police. the level of dishonesty is not in question. this is a criminal act which i do not have a video of so they will continue to take advantage of other people with less knowledge of automobiles. i now have an extremely expensive repair i must take to a reputable shop to fix.

***VERY UNSAFE*** THE WHOLE TIME THE TECH WAS DOING MY OIL CHANGE, HE HAD A CIGARETTE IN HIS HAND. THIS GUY CHAIN SMOKED THE WHOLE TIME NEXT TO FLAMMABLE MATERIALS. WHAT IF THAT OIL EXPLODED ALL OVER MY CAR?!?! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR IN ANY AUTO SHOP. I do not recommend this place EVER. Took my 2002 Audi A6 in for an oil change, and they took out both filters to my car(Cabin and engine). Midas wanted to charge me over 100 dollars total for both filters. I understand that I have an Audi, but my parts arent that expensive. I found the parts(with shipping) for 40 dollars online. The labor they were trying to charge me didnt fit the job. The Air filters they were going to replace would only took me 30 minutes, and that is because I had to figure out how to change them myself. I didnt know where either one was located, I did it by trial and error. At first, I wanted to change the air filters, because they were filthy. At the last minute I decided to change my mind and not replace them. They acted really friendly as long as I was about to spend the money to get my filters changed. The minute I told them I changed my mind, the manager got an attitude with me. The tech that worked on my car jammed my engine filter back into the unit any way he could. In addition, there are other various plastic parts under the hood that were not put back together correctly, and were just left carelessly under the hood. Im glad I only drove my car for 5 minutes, before I stopped to look under the hood myself. Of course, I was able to put everything back together before serious damage was done. They went out of their way to take my car apart to up sell me, and didnt bother to put it back together correctly. Keep in mind I went in for a standard oil change, including oil filter, and they took parts off my car that were nowhere close to the areas that are accessed while doing a normal oil change. Dont give these people a reason to charge you higher prices to fix your car. Do the research on your car, there are better places to buy parts. Remember, they were going to charge me over 30 dollars to change a part that takes not even 2 minutes to replace, and another 50 for a part that was going to take 20 minutes to change out.

It is so sad to say that as if 08/05/2015 I am still having some loud noise coming from my timing chain......I was told to buy the parts for the timing chain, oil pan and all gaskets that costed me 480.00 dollars at auto zone...and the technicians at Midas stated that their labor charge would be 800.00 dollars. The day after we drove the car home...the hood was so hot and the engine that a spark plug shot out and hit underneath the hood.....so my son immediately parked on the side of the road..becuz their was smoke coming out of underneath his glove compartment onto the passenger seat and smoke out of his exhaust pipes...I had the vehicle towed back to midas and the techs told us it was a head gasket blown...so it wasnt the head gasket after all...they had to rig my spark plug to replace it back and God only knows what else they did but I had to pay again for parts and labor 150.00 dollars...so I try again the next day to pick up my car and my son drove his car and it sounded bad again....it took it back the third time and now the technicians states the lifters were bad...wow...his idea was to replace all lifters and for me to pay him 180.00 dollars and states it was nothing he did...but after looking up the timing chain job they did.....if the timing was completely off thats when a car gets overheated and creates the spark plug to blow out...dont take a genius to know that...than it went from one problem...to another....after the 3rd time of taking my sons car in..I still here the same dam noise..like if some parts from the timing chain are loose or they left a tensioner loose.....Whos know but one thing for sure...after looking at my receipt they never not once told me that I wouldnt have warranty..if I took them my parts..and as a matter of fact...I spoke to the manager and the tech that worked on my sons car and stated that I had a 90 day warranty...but sadly to say my car has been more in that darn shop than at my house being used..I wish I new what to do now..becuz its still running like crap and I am totally running low on money......I kept taking my car their becuz I thought they were honest people...but sadly to say...I dont trust anyone anymore to work on my sons car....now I know why they have such poor ratings..
