Meh food, smells great, but TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service from the manager! I went here while on a business trip recently and got the shoulder clod, ribs, baked beans, mac & cheese, and a beer. The shoulder clod and baked beans were fairly dry, the mac and cheese was OK but lacked any distinctive flavor, thankfully the ribs were fairly good. When I left I almost forgot my card at the bar so I ran back inside and closed my tab only to notice that I got charged $10.28 for the one pint of beer I ordered. I waited a minute for the bartender to ask her about the price but she was focused on her friend/only other person, at the bar. Since I was going to expense the meal anyway, I said screw it and left after paying for the drink. The next day I realized I actually did end up leaving my card at the bar so since when my co-workers and I stopped at Urban Crust (great pizza!) for dinner up the street I dropped in to grab my card. While waiting I asked how much a Mosaic IPA pint was. The (different from the night before) bartender said $7.28 so, I explained that I was up-charged (over 40%) and would like the $3.00 difference so correct the bars wrong. The bartender politely apologized and asked if I wanted a beer or a shot to make up for it, since to obtain a cash refund hed need to get the manager to do so. I explained that I couldnt since I was out with co-workers who were waiting for me so he went to grab the manager. When they both arrived, the manager had a sour look on his face as if this was some huge inconvenience to him, tossed two $5 bills on the bar and said in a curt manner, "heres your $10 dollars". I didnt think anything of it because I assumed he was frustrated I was asking for a full refund, which I wasnt. I politely re-mentioned that I wasnt looking for a full refund only the $3.00 his bartender up-charged me. His response: "you know its kind of ridiculous that you came back the next day and asked for a refund." I could not believe that kind of customer service especially from a manager but none the less I smiled and walked out knowing that any further discussion wouldnt lead to anything of value. Having been in the restaurant industry before I still cant rationalize why he would think making this comment was appropriate. His employee improperly up-charged me and yet it was ridiculous I wanted my money back that was incorrectly charged to me. I go down to Dallas a couple times a year for work but will NEVER go back to Lockhart Smokehouse and will be sure to tell anyone who mentions the place my experience with their manager.

Ill start the review by disclosing that I ordered around 7:30 on a Monday night, for whatever thats worth. I am completely aware of this new "we serve until we run out" concept that seems to be popular among the Texas BBQ "elite," although I dont quite make sense of it from a customer standpoint. However, the one star that Ive given Lockhart is not in any way related to the fact that I was unable to order the brisket, for which I came. It is based on the fact that when these guys start running out of the meat that theyve prepared, they try to stretch it as far as it will go to serve customers that are still waiting. Herein, lies the lurking issue. When I arrived at the counter to order, the only items left were sausage and pork chops - I opted for both. I noticed a few guys before me were getting some pretty skimpy cuts of meat, but no one was watching the scales because the dude at the register was moving extremely fast. When the guy put my porkchop AND sausage on the scale, it weighed in at a measly .36 pounds. If anyone has read the menu, it clearly states that all meat prices (with the exception of sausage and chicken) are based on 1/2 pound increments. So, I looked at the guy a little funny and asked if he thought that I was served enough meat. He checked the scale, noticed that it light and, without apology, asked the guy cutting the meat for another piece of pork chop. When he slapped down the next measly cut of meat with the sausage and other pieces of chop, it only weighed in at .52 pounds. Now, Im not a seasoned judge of the weights of various cuts of meat, but I know the pathetic and dry link of jalapeno sausage that I was served weighed more than .02 pounds. So, I was still short on chop and the guy proceeded to ring me up, again. I had given up at this point and accepted the fact that Lockhart Smokehouse was ripping me off and the rest of the patronage that had visited the restaurant that day. I will never go back.

This is what central Texas Q is all about. Granted Ive only been to a handful of places in GA, FL and TX but this was by far the best brisket and sausage I have ever had. I walked in on a Monday night about 30 minutes before they closed (really not setting them up to succeed) and they still delivered the finest brisket and sausage ever to grace these lips. Its a little weird as I walked in and just sat down because I didnt know what else to do. There was no one there to really direct me. I sat there for a few minutes until I finally flagged down a guy clearing tables. He said you have to order in the back (well of course, duh!). When I got to the back the guy taking my order could tell I wasnt a local and asked if this was my first time to which I said yes while giggling with anticipation. He proceeded to grab a brand new uncut brisket from the oven and clipped of the edge from the point. Not kidding my knees quivered at this fatty salty bark slab of wonder. He asked how it was and I could hardly get out the words. I felt like I had just lost my virginity all over again. Once I gathered myself I was able to order brisket, sausage and slaw. I provided to hammer every bit of it as it was the best I had ever had of each. I already mentioned the brisket and it stayed consistent when I sat down. The sausage is house made and by FAR the best Ive ever had anywhere. Like smoked sausage, andouille sausage, country sausage whatever. This was the best sausage ever...period. And the slaw was unique in the fact that it had a little kick to it while also being creamy and delicious. It paired the meats like the finest wine to the finest steak. If you are anywhere near Dallas and love smoked meat, which I assume you do since youre reading the review, then go to this place.

We drove 20 minutes to come experience this place, I mean, who wouldnt with all the raving reviews! We dont know much about the neighborhood but from what we can see, it seems like a gentrified hipster neighborhood with up and coming gastropubs selling fusion food with craft beers and wine. There were quite a few restaurants on the streets with nice outdoor dining patios. Then theres this place, a plain building on the corner with no flashy signs or decor. We lucked out when we got here and did not experience long lines or shortage of tables. Walk in, grab a table first, if youre not by yourself then have someone in your party sit and hold the table while you go get in line to order. The menu is simple, all BBQ items with a handful of sides. The meats are all sold by the pound and it may seem like youre paying a lot for very little but once you get your food and start grubbin, you wont be walking out hungry for sure! My beau and I shared an order of the half chicken $6.25, jalapeno sausage $5.25, and the smoked prime ribs. Our total bill was approx $20 for the two of us. He also had a side of mac and cheese which I did not have. The meats are served with a few pieces of white bread, again, I did not have. So with just having all the meats, I was stuffed! It seems like they run out of items often, so make sure to come early if there is a particular item you really want. Theres a bar here as well so you can have your BBQ and beer. Even our friend who lives locally was impressed by this place!
