Worst customer service when trying to cancel! I signed up online (big mistake) and I thoroughly read the disclosures even before I started.. concerning cancelation, it said to cancel your membership, you have to go into your club during business hours or something to that effect.. Well I did. I went in today (Saturday), and was told by the girl at the desk who had a far-from-pleasant persona, that I have to come back when an operations manager is working because NO cancellations are permitted when he is not at the location. His hours are Monday-Friday 9-5. I recently received a promotion and my hours have been extended and I go in earlier. Im a morning workout kind of guy, and being that I have to be heading to work at 6am to be on time and wont be back in town until around 6pm most days, LA fitness is not for me (they open at 6 ........). I explained all of this to the girl behind the desk and she replied "Sorry, I dont make the rules.".. BUT NOWHERE in my contract did it say I couldnt cancel without an "operations manager" present. I could have gotten bent out of shape and demanded numbers for the store manager/ops manager, but instead I had her print me out a cancellation form that I can send to corporate because, like most people, I have too much going on to get stuck in a 45 minutes to an hour session of verbal diarrhea with some minimum wage kid, that all leads to the same maddening result. I sent the form out today, and I assume it will arrive and be processed just AFTER my next billing cycle if they stick to true LA Fitness standards. And on a side note, the so called "personal trainers" call nonstop trying to sell you their wildly overpriced "services" that arent worth a dime over 10 dollars an hour. Tell them NO!, and they think you meant "Yes!" only a week or two later. Oh, and the equipment is in poor shape. They arent using your monthly fees to fix and maintain those, that im sure of. I will be spending a bit more and take my business to Lifetime Fitness.

My fiance and I went in lets say a year ago to get a membership. When we signed up, we asked what our options were if I had to cancel my membership because I was going to law school in downtown Dallas which already had a gym. The lady told us that if I chose to drop the membership that we could re-initiate the membership at the same rate provided my fiance stayed on the account. We agree to a membership on that basis. Six months later, I dropped because, like I said, I was going to graduate school in downtown Dallas. A week ago, I try to re-enroll, and the staff refuse to honor what the previous staff member said. Either the initial staff member lied, or this new staff member is lying. I declined to enroll at that time. Today, I printed out a guest pass for a week because we wanted to try out one of the classes. The lady at the front desk refused to activate it. She then said "someone over there will help you". We stood "over there" staring at about six staff members with empty chairs in front of them for about five minutes before someone reluctantly talks to us. He refuses to honor the guess pass from the LA fitness website. We tell him wed like to cancel our membership, and he points to the desk we were just standing at. The lady at the desk says she cant help us and rights down a phone number which she tells my fiance to call. My fiance asks her to call the number because wed like to cancel today. She tells us we can either fill out a form and mail it in and come back another day to sign it or call the number. We go to our car and call the number to cancel, and she instructs us that we need to go inside to cancel the membership. Basically, this is the worst customer service Ive ever experienced.

The general manger at the time (Adam) scammed me and my wife into a fake membership. I signed up and paid in full for a 3 year membership for me and my wife. The deal he gave us seemed to good to be true but we didnt think much of it at the time until after a couple weeks. We didnt realize what he did until me and my wife tried to use our member ship at another Gym in Lewisville. This is when it was brought to our attention that the pass he gave my wife was a copy of mine and she did not actually have her own separate membership. As soon as I found out I called LA fitness in Denton and let them know. It so happened that Adam had just transferred to another location and this apparently was not uncommon for him to have done. We were pretty much told there was nothing they could do about getting my wife a separate legit pass and that we would have no problems as long as we only went to the Denton location. We continued to go to the Denton location for a little bit but any time where as a staff change we would have to explain our special member ship Adam signed us up for. We eventually became fed up with our situation and stopped using LA Fitness. We tried talking to multiple people, managers and corporate but it was no use. They all pretty much just told us we were SOL and apologized for what Adam did and there was nothing they could do. I would have been happy with them just adding a guest pass so I could take my with me legitimately. Anyways what sparked me to leave this feedback was the fact that someone from LA Fitness called to ask if I wanted to renew my membership since my 3 year fully paid one was about up. I havent been back there in over 2.5 years. $1200 wasted, never again. Dzung Nguyen

I had an absolutely awful experience with the assistant manager Jimmy yesterday. Absolutely dreadful. I was asking to speak with the general manager (Shawn) regarding customer service concerns. When Jimmy (assistant manager) came over he explained that he was standing there trying to help me and that if I didnt like the service he was providing I could get out. He then proceeds to walk away while shouting "you can get out, you can leave". I was absolutely FLABBERGASTED!!!! I have NEVER had a similar experience with any business in my life. I kept asking to speak with Shawn who Id been told was "in the bathroom". After 30 min or so of having Jimmy tell me that I could not speak with Shawn because I "didnt need to talk to him" and he was "unavailable" Jimmy noticed that I wasnt leaving and finally called Shawn over. When Shawn arrived he told me that Jimmy had done nothing wrong at all. He was completely unapologetic and told me that he (Shawn) had been working for LA Fitness for 4 and 1/2 years, that LA Fitness had thousands of customers and that they offered excellent customer service. The grace for this place was that the Member Service manager (Marisa) contacted me today and was very gracious and apologetic. Her customer service was excellent and I would definitely consider trying LA Fitness again under different sales management. Was trying out the place on a guest pass (Shawn frequently reminded me that I was not a member) but I was greatly looking forward to becoming a member prior to this incident. No love lost for LA Fitness as a whole. Just wish I could have had a better experience with the assistant and general managers.
