Whether you’re looking to become a professional fighter or just a fitness class, this is the place for you. They cater to people of all ages with a kids’ class to retirees. This is not an aerobics tai-bo or les mills body combat 24 hour fitness kickboxing class, you will be learning authentic muay thai. Coach Michael “Chase” has fought in professional muay thai bouts all over the world and is the current president of the US national muay thai team. Kru Bob still actively corners professional MMA fighters including ones in the UFC that train here. The coaches actually care about your progression and watch you while you train and help you get better. The other gyms that I’ve seen just show you a move and then go back playing on their phones. I started in November 2016 at 205lbs and took 1 month off for lasik eye surgery and another month off because of work projects and I’m already at 175lbs in just 6 months. As a working professional, I come in after work mentally drained but the class always rejuvenates me. The students are all friendly with no big egos. It’s located in the same place as renowned Main boxing gym that is in downtown of central Houston. The gym also offers great boxing with former world heavyweight champ Lou Savarese who defeated Buster Douglas (the man who knocked out Mike Tyson and handed him his first loss) NO CONTRACT, they offer a $20 3 day trial that includes free gloves.

update: Its been a year and a half since I have been training here and wanted to edit my review. Everything I wrote before still stands, but this gym has now added morning classes, both cardio kickboxing and muay thai that I regularly attend 3x a week. The two guys that teach these classes(and others during the day), Jeremy and Oliver are just fantastic and excellent instructors that know what they are doing. I have learned so much technique, been whipped into great shape, and have all around upped my Muay Thai abilities significantly. Try this gym out and you wont be disappointed, i promise! I first walked into this gym in December of 2014. I had been training in Muay Thai for about 6 months at that point and was looking for a gym that had a sense of community along with the best instructors that would teach me better technique. What I found at Houston Muay Thai was that and much more.... I was immediately welcome and began training 2-3 x a week under the excellent instruction of Coach Chase Corley and Kru Bob Perez. This gym has something for everyone all in a clean and safe environment. Looking for cardio workout only? Try their cardio class. New to Muay Thai? Head to beginner class. There are plenty of intermediate and advanced classes as well. You will learn quickly and fall in love with the gym and this sport that is rapidly growing in popularity. Try Houston Muay Thai out!

1. A great Muay Thai Training Center, I specifically say Muay Thai because that is what you will learn, all the techniques, nuances and styles, its not just MMA or self defense or whatever it is thats popular this week, its pure Muay Thai, its very challenging and there are some serious "beasts" that train here (both professionally and as amateurs) as well as young blue collared/white collared professionals too. 2. Cardio Kickboxing is great for an intensive workout, Beginner Muay Thai is great for..well beginners and intermediate to advanced is also very challenging and fun. 3. Everyone I met was very friendly and very willing to teach you even at the most beginner level all you have to do is ask. 4. No contracts (most gyms of this caliber require some kind of 1-year contract), 1-week free trial is no hassle or zero pressure sales tactics, just come in sign a waiver and your good to go (but come dressed in appropriate gym gear for class, no jean shorts, thongs etc.) 5. It is also significantly cheaper than other MMA gyms in the area, and they have some adjustable rates to meet your needs. 6. The head coaches Michael and Bob are very friendly and great coaches that are very approachable, easy to talk to and have a great deal of knowledge and experience to draw from. 7. As I said in #1. its a MUAY THAI GYM, no foxy boxing, no zumba or kids karate, but its really a great place.

I joined Houston Muay Thai when it first opened and I absolutely love it here. The cardio classes are a great stress-reliever as you get to punch and kick your heart out. While in the Beginner to Advanced classes, you learn Muay Thai techniques. I think what sets this gym apart from others (which I have been to) is that Coaches Michael and Bob want you to have proper form and learn real techniques. It is not a gym that advertises Muay Thai yet will use up class time having you do a bunch of cardio/strength drills. We also don’t hold pads for each other during the class. I’ve always found it odd how holding pads with a partner and aimlessly throwing punches and kicks with little correction or direction would constitute as truly ‘learning’. This does not occur here. The gym environment is very friendly and so whether you are training for fun or to compete, there is no judgment or ego; just everyone wanting to learn and have fun. Lastly, in just the first year of opening the gym, we’ve had numerous seminars taught by current and former world class Muay Thai fighters. This goes to show how non-egocentric and passionate Coaches Michael and Bob are in exposing us to different views and techniques.

This gym excels at Muay Thai. I have trained in at least five gyms for Muay Thai in the past years from a couple months to a couple years, yet this gym offers beyond what other gyms can, in combination of the coaches, team members, space and the overall spirit. The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and respectful, as a lot of people have mentioned. My favorite thing about this gym is its spirit, on how passionate, dedicated yet modest everyone is. A lot of members have won many fights, but they keep training hard and take time to help others improve. People with less experience are motivated and serious. You feel like a part of this gym immediately not only because of friendliness of people, but more because you know you all share the same love for Muay Thai. After all, this is a great gym no matter if you are a serious competitor or just want to be fit. It offers all levels of classes and you can train at almost any time of the day. It has good atmosphere and is quite spacious. The price is very reasonable for what you get. Btw, remember to bring a lot of water when you come train, you are definitely gonna sweat A LOT!

If you want to get into shape fast, this is the place to go to. I signed up for the newsletter that Michael Corley writes with random fitness tips and inspirational quotes, and I finally bit and took the low cost trial offer with the free gloves. Within a month I used the trial up. You can attend as many classes as you want, for 3 days. I used one day every week. I went with a friend with intentions on doing the Cardio Kickboxing class and then doing the Muay Thai beginners class afterwards, but we never did make it to the Muay Thai class because the cardio class kicked our asses. If youve attended any boot camp style fitness regimen then you will have an idea of how the kickboxing class goes. During the kickboxing class you will, most times, have your own bag to punch and kick or you can share. I recommend going with a friend or your significant other so that you can push each other to keep going; the trainers will help to an extent but its really up to you to push yourself psychologically. I havent been back to the class since the trial, but I intend to.
