I signed on with LA Fitness in February for both a gym membership and a personal trainer. In the beginning, it seemed like it would work out perfectly! I was going to get three personal training sessions a month with 30 minutes of weight training and 45 minutes of Cardio. However, things quickly changed. The two people who were willing to do the cardio left, and suddenly I was only allowed three, 30 minutes weight training sessions a month. For the amount Im paying, this is completely and totally unfair. There is also the problem with the actual trainers. Nichole is amazing...probably the best one there. However, it seems as though the other ones could care less about the person they are training. One even came in late, threw his bag on the table where I was standing, waiting for him, went and talked to his friends, came back, asked if I was waiting for him, I said yes, and he told me to hang out while he "went to pee." Ten minutes after my session should have started, we finally started weight training. He did not ask me any questions, like if I had any injuries (which I do) and really didnt seem to care about my goals at all. In fact, I had to tell him and make sure he was aware of what I was wanting out of it. We finished five minutes early, and he continued talking with his friends after blowing me off. I have tried to fix the situation, but never receive any phone calls back...Ever. I just now got a hold of someone that will at least talk to me, however everyone else is either busy or "in a meeting." Basically, if you need something, you better go inside and make them talk to you face to face. Otherwise, youll never get to talk to the person you need to. The gym equipment itself is wonderful. They have a beautiful gym, and a nice clean lockeroom. They have pretty much anything and everything you need. Their personal training however, is a completely different story..

The customer service has been the worst!! I never write reviews since I am also in the customer service industry but I have had enough. The people at the front counter are incompetent, the cardio machines do not work correctly, and the sales team is extremely pushy (calling, emailing, AND texting us every day after our 3 day pass to ask if we wanted to sign up, after telling them that we would make a decision by the following monday.) It was a hastle to sign up then another ordeal to get our scan tags that the front desk couldnt find. Weve had to ask the front desk to remove a band-aid that was on the staircase every day for a week, and they didnt remove it until the following monday when they saw us coming in because "they didnt remember it until they saw us." Calling to ask about freezing our membership due to health issues, I was put on hold so the front desk could ask a manager, when they came back they quoted me the wrong price for freezing and two different time frames for when the cut off time was. I cannot imagine a worse experience at a health club.

Its not the best gym, but it is one of the cheapest (and for me, its the closest to my house). The facilities are ok, but theres a lingering funk around the locker areas. Occasionally youll get a treadmill that skips, an elliptical that clanks, or other semi-busted equipment. The weights, however, are great. Theres lots of stations and never a long wait. I also dont feel crowded by people there. I havent used any of the classes or the other facilities such as the pool, yoga studio, or the racquetball courts. I also havent used any of the trainers. After reading the reviews, and going there for a couple months, I would not likely get any of those services either. People seem to be pretty lazy there (except for the cleaning person, they always seem to be working really hard). In the end, you very much get what you pay for. For $150/month at Equinox I got the best yoga classes, cool towels with eucalyptus, and Keihls products in the shower. For $30/month at LA Fitness, you get workout equipment and showering at home for fear of "the funk."

I had a membership there for a little while, along with a personal training membership. They made it painful to cancel, and they really screwed me over, I feel, in the personal training. I signed a contract for a package worth around $1200 I believe for the training. The personal trainer was terrible and just about killed me going up and down the stairs even though I told him I had asthma. I had to actually sit down against the wall to recover. Because of this, I tried to cancel and they made me pay half the remaining cost with no training sessions in return, about $500. I was furious but just glad to be done with it. I canceled my membership, which was a huge pain in an of itself. You have to mail a document to corporate, etc. Im a member of Anytime Fitness now, where I dont feel screwed over all the time. Its a shame that LA Fitness has to be like that, because their facility itself is actually quite nice. I liked the hot tub and heated pool.

The Manager is Rude. We were planning to join LA Fitness in Plano, TX, but the manager there is very rude and gave us the an attitude when we said we would like to think about it. And also he was very rude when we asked him if we could give one day pass to try the service they offer. He said " we dont offer anything for free" and that if we wanted a pass we would have to commit to sign the agreement first. Then he also asked us to compare the price for 15 clubs and let him know what is the price of the others. This is just borderline offensive. We will never ever join this club. This is very bad customer service. Also he was all the time pushing us to sign agreement the very same day.

I was sold 15 personal trainer sessions which I was told would never expire, no matter how long I delayed taking them - now I want to use them ( a year or so later ).....and they have told me they are expired. To "reactivate" them I need to buy at least one more. Basically I was mis-sold this package. Annoyingly loud music in mens changing rooms ( why so loud when everybody is using a personal music system anyway ? ). Plenty of good equipment, cardio mostly works, good jacuzzi and pool. Dont understand why people are allowed into the sauna fully clothed - with outdoor shoes, Im European so this is alien to me. Staff ok.

Signed up for training and only found 1 of 4 trainers to b effective. Asked to cancel training service because I told them when I started I would probably not be able to pay for it since I did not have a job. They signed me up n e way since they know customers dont read fine print and did not tell me about all of the cancelling fees. The manager laughed at me over the phone and to make it simple everythings gravy when u start but after u turn around they do everything possible for just the money. Especially if your dealing wwith additional services such as child care or trainer assistant
