I read some of the reviews posted and reviewed the list of their services before booking the appointment. I called and made an appointment, I specifically asked to be booked with someone who had experience with natural hair. The person who answered told me Amanda had experience. I arrived to my appointment and was greeted by staff, they were very pleasant, the salon was very clean and well decorated. Amanda introduced herself, I was hopeful she would be able to render my requested services. I booked for a shampoo, color, deep conditioner, and silk press. My natural hair is very coily/curly, it will tangle if not handled with experience and care. Amanda applied the color first , which went well. She then shampooed my hair, and applied conditioner (by lathering again). I began to worry because I could feel my hair tangling at the root with the final lathering of conditioner. After rinsing out the conditioner, she sat me up to comb my hair out. She sectioned it and started to comb my hair from the ends with a large tooth comb, but at this point my hair was soooo tangled. I could feel my hair ripping out at every attempt to pass the comb. I asked if she had any detangler, she stated she sprayed a detangler/heat protectant already. She then asked me was I tender headed, I told her no, but my hair is very tangled and I feel like my hair is coming out. She became frustrated and asked me if I wanted to comb it, I said sure but I realized my hair was quickly drying and needed to be wet all over again to even try to comb it out. My hair hadnt been this tangled since Ive been natural. I was overwhelmed, the staff did check on me as I attempted to detangler/comb my hair. My hair continued to dry with little detangling product so I became frustrated and asked how much I owed at this point. I declined any further services. I paid the $25 deposit and paid $40 cash. I didnt ask for a breakdown of pricing. This is my 3rd salon experience in the 4 yrs of wearing natural hair. I held off from salons since moving from the east coast, due to the lack of authentic natural hair stylists. I was visiting San Antonio and had to go buy hair supplies to finish my hair. Once I got home and wet my hair again to comb it out, it was tangled as if I had just took micro braids out of my hair. Ive never walked out of a salon with my hair half way wet, ever. I will not return to Studio 55, and would never refer this salon to anyone that has natural hair of more than a loose curl pattern. Im sure its a nice salon for other services , its not a salon that caters to the full spectrum of natural hair.

Do NOT use this place. They do NOT comb your hair straight after applying relaxer to your hair. You will end up with wavy hair instead of straight. I have had my hair straighten in the past and I know that if your hair is long you must stand up to have the hair combed straight for the relaxer to ensure it is straight. If you even bend it you will end up with waves. This place took my daughter out of my sight so I could NOT watch the whole process. They left her hair twisted up in the clips. I had to talk through with my daughter through what happen to find out what they did. She is nearly 10 years old. She can tell me if her hair was combed out or clipped up the whole time. I paid $175 and her hair is not even close to straight. She is PUERTO RICAN her hair is course in the back and silky on the sides but still closer to a white girl not a black girl. I chose an ethnic place in the rich side of town to ensure she had top quality service for heir hair since it is not 100% the typical white girl hair. I am willing to pay for quality. She has NEVER had a relaxer so I want to make sure no one damaged her hair. I have never felt so RIPPED OFF. It also took 4 HOURS. Amanda double booked so she completed 4 other people while doing my daughters hair. She started 40 minutes late on her hair as well. If she didnt have time she should never have book other people at the same time or she should not have booked us. I made the appointment in advance and had a consultation to ensure her hair could be straighten safely and so Amanda would know the condition and type of hair prior to scheduling the amount of time needed. The lack of professionalism, length of time, and uncertainty what happen all added to my not tipping. Oh and they only accept CASH??? On the NORTH SIDE??? The rich side of town?? I do not carry cash!! I had to leave my daughter like she was collateral and go find cash. I had to pay a deposit to make an appointment. I have never paid a deposit for services. I do not live in the Stone Oak area but I was willing to pay those prices if I was going to get top quality. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY IN THIS SALON.

First of all, I am different - I dont usually look for reviews before visiting a business to make a decision as to whether I am going to try it or not! And I also am not one to post a "bad" review, I simply take my money elsewhere! HOWEVER - Studio 55 is amazing! The stylists are amazing! My hair was very damaged and breaking off when I started, having lost my previous stylist of 12+ years. Tiffany nursed my hair back to health and it has been healthy and growing ever since. I moved to weaves and BABY- I love it. Its easy, versatile and my natural hair is just as healthy. I love her creativity and the fact that she takes the time to know me, my personal style (between work and play), what will look good on me and most importantly, what I can manage on my own! These reviews from people who have never been to her shop and/or those that show up with the wrong attitude and mindset to begin with just kill me! I may be biased, Tiffany has been doing my hair for 5 years. And after all these years, yes, we are friends (DISCLAIMER). Tiffany is great at what she does. Not everybody is going to be happy with everything, but she is true to her craft and professional enough to fix what you dont like! But you have to open your mouth to express it. Stop being envious, jealous, hateful and sit down, smile and get your hair done! Dont worry about how much money she makes, what she drives, what she wears, etc and enjoy the experience of being in a shop full of career minded, strong, classy, educated, motivated, and fly women. Tiff is truly ahead of most and she is way more humble than she gets credit for. She is a beast over the top of your head. And all the hate in the world doesnt change that! Studio 55, keep doing what you do YOUR way!

Studio 55 is a good salon. However, they are not as professional as some other salons in the area such as Avalon, etc. Heres why Pros: Tiffany knows what shes doing. Her weaving is exceptional and her styling is very pretty. She knows how to handle different types of hair which is why she is the best at what she does. Cons: Her salon could be ran better. One thing that is very unprofessional is the fact that she does not take any sort of payment except CASH. They literally make clients go to the bank across the street to pay for services. Idk why they do this but Im speculating that it is because they dont want the IRS to know how much they actually make. They also dont have many hair stylists at the salon which in turn makes your appointment VERY LONG. If you want color and all that jazz, look to be at the salon all day (9-5). Why? Because they book so many other clients at the same time, so you are basically spending most of your time under the dryer. I know they want to make money but it is very unfair to clients who had appointments to have to wait for your stylist to do someone walking in to get a "quick" shampoo and style. Last but not least, they do not dress or talk in a professional manner that professional stylists should. They will arrive late, and they will show up in gym clothes. It doesnt really impede on how well they do hair, but again, it is unfair to clients. I compared this salon to Avalon because they want to appear to be professional and as good as others in the area but they fall short in some areas. If they could fix certain things, Im pretty sure they could get more clients. Overall, i love tiffanys work but i dread getting it done.
