Update: Well, I can no longer recommend Charlene. My amazing stylist, the one who always gets it right, just butchered me the likes of which I havent seen since I stopped getting bargain student haircuts. Actually, its worse than any haircut Ive ever had. Ive cut my own hair with paper scissors, gone to students, had my shaky handed mom cut it - but this is far worse. She also cut my daughters hair, and couldnt even get it even. Despite admitting (in the form of whining and making excuses) that she was distracted - nothing has been done to fix this. Trying to fix it (fail): When I called Grassroots the receptionist was incredibly nice about it. However, I ended up being told several times someone would call me back - had to call them instead. When I spoke with the owner about the extent of the devastation... truly, this can only be fixed by hair extensions. She insisted they wouldnt pay for extensions but would fix it. Well... I dont know how you fix it when I have almost no hair left. So I asked her for a refund. She insisted she wouldnt. I even spoke directly with my stylist to see if shed make it right. She whined, made excuses, and insisted the blame was on me. Honestly - LITERALLY - I would have rather I walked in, and they punched me in the face and stole my wallet. At least then I would have some hair left to work with. NEVER AGAIN, GRASSROOTS AND CHARLENE!! If anyone likes super fake apologies and fake half fixes after youve spent thousands on them over the years (Charlene specifically) - then by all means... go torture yourself. All the Gory Details: After being unemployed and super broke, I finally decided to splurge on a nice haircut. Every one of the dozen-plus times Ive seen Charlene, shes made me look younger (Im 35, right at that age where employers dont want to hire you... so younger was a must), prettier, and even better than what I hoped for. So, I figured a $200 investment to help me land a new job would pay off. She was such a safe bet. I asked for exactly the last haircut she gave me, described it several times, repeatedly used the word "subtle" in regards to layering and color. In fact, I even described my daughters desired haircut and mine so closely that I was worried she missed the "subtle" differences. My daughter looks amazing... SUBTLE... (Actually - weve since noticed one side is longer than the other. Shes been curling it, and so did Charlene, so that hides issues) and I look awful, bold, wayyyyy too blonde, and wayyyyyy too short. My hair has also thinned over the years, alarmingly so, and this is something shes commented on in the past. I didnt think Id need to tell MY CHARLENE that my hair was thin. I knew shed see it. Then she proceeded to razor out at least a third of my precious thickness. I dont know how to go about saving this without crazy expensive hair extensions. Maybe if I get a job.... oh wait, THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN NOW. If youre having an off day, cancel on me. Dont butcher me. I honestly feel like I look like a grandma now. (UPDATE: On further reflection, I could have asked for the Hillary Clinton on chemo cut and deserved what I got) Im now at least in my 40s to look at me, so thanks for charging me more than you used to, taking just as long as you used to, and aging me. It was great of you to do it in such a way that cant really be fixed, too. Just awesome. (Yes, that last bit was sarcastic). Old Review: Ive gone to Charlene maybe a dozen or so times over the years, and she is AMAZING. Im super picky, but she always gets it right. I cant count how many times I went to a hairstylist before I met her - asked for something or showed them a picture and ended up butchered and in tears. Charlene is by far the best stylist Ive ever seen, and I once paid over $200 for a haircut (no color, just a cut)! Shes friendly and sweet and always remembers me... even if its been awhile. I cant recommend her highly enough!

4 stars for my pedicure, 2 stars for my shellac manicure. My mother-in-law, who lives in Roy, met me here to get a manicure and a pedicure before my wedding. The girls performing the services were nice, but seemed a bit tired (we scheduled 7pm appointment). There was some confusion about the shellac application, as only one of the two girls knew how to apply shellac French tips, even though we scheduled to have this service performed. The girls ended up tag-teaming our nails, which took quite a while. I had to ask to have lotion applied and massaged into hands in a way that most salons do when you pay for a manicure. My shellac only looked good for about a week. The shellac started separating from my nails about a week after getting the service. I should have called and complained right away, but I didnt want to drive to Layton to get them fixed so I figured it wasnt that big of a deal. This morning, my hair got stuck between my shellac and my nail bed while I was washing it. It was painful and now I am afraid water is getting stuck and that bacteria might be growing. It looks as if there are bubbles under 5 of my nails because the shellac is separating so badly. I called and see if there was any sort of warranty on the services, but supposedly most people re-do their shellac every 2-3 weeks (which is much shorter than the 3-4 weeks I was quoted at other places) and I waited too long to call and complain about the service. Ive had shellac applied to my nails before (Real Shellac, not gel polish) and Ive never experienced this. I honestly think the shellac they applied was old. I wouldnt recommend their shellac service, but the pedicure was nice (although mine was about 10 minutes shorter than my MILs).

I spent 4 1/2 hours sitting in a chair to wind up with a dye job I do not like, AND hair dye stained on my FACE. I had hair dye on my scalp and face for over an hour and a half. It caused my scalp to scab and be sore to the touch. I went to the bathroom and tried to wash the dye from my face since the stylist didnt seem to care. When she was finished with the color and drying my hair, I told her I didnt really like the color, and I felt like she ignored me. She cut my hair and was styling it when I told her again I wasnt happy with the color. She added a few more highlights, rinsed the pieces of hair, dried the wet spots and sent me on my way. Im not a confrontational person so I didnt say anything AGAIN. I left and cried in my car. I do not like my hair, but I could not stand to be there any longer. I used to be a big fan of this place, but after this horrible experience Im not sure Ill be back.
