I do a LOT of unpaid tech support for friends and family, because I tend to know a bit more than the average user. But when Ive reached my limits, I recommend that folks take their hardware problems to Providence Computers. Ive known the owner, Mike Karslake, for over 18 years (almost as long as Providence Computers has existed), and he and his staff have always been very knowledgeable, honest, fair, and friendly in their dealings. In addition to building solid custom computers in all price ranges, they are experts on all versions of Windows. No matter what the problem -- hardware failures, software issues, virus infections -- theyre the "go-to" guys. For me, the icing on the cake is that they also know and support various distributions of the Linux operating system, and theyre not afraid of recommending Free Open Source Software to people (even though that doesnt help their bottom line). Theres a reason why Providence has been around for over twenty years -- a satisfied, loyal customer base. Im happy to count myself as a part of that group.

They replaced a mother board and power supply for me. Easy enough for someone that knows what they are doing. I asked if the drivers for the mother board were loaded into Windows. The man that worked on my computer looked me right in the eye and said "Yes". Upon booting up the computer I discovered that he had lied to my face. None of the drivers were loaded for the components on the mother board. I had to find and download the drivers for my new sound card, Ethernet adapter, graphics card and USB ports. I would have understood if he had said "No, I did not do that for you" and I had to figure it out, but that is not what happened. He literally lied to my face. Their prices are 25% to 50% higher for parts than what you can find elsewhere. They charge full list price for parts and labor. Do your shopping before going there. I was unable to do so at the last minute when I needed my work computer repaired and I paid dearly for it. They did repair the computer in a timely manner.

I recently ordered a hard drive online, and it didnt come with cables. Best Buy wanted $20 each for a SATA power and data cable, which is just insane. Providence had the cables in stock for "about three dollars" according to the guy on the phone. I walk in and find what I need (which were actually marked as 5.95 each) and head up to the counter. The guy at the register insists that I give my name, email and address. I said no, so he pocketed the $10 cash I gave him without entering it into the system. I feel bad for people that go into these stores without knowing anything about computers, but this one in particular felt ripe for completely ripping you off. The staff were generally smug kids, and the fact that he blatantly pocketed the cash from my purchase makes me think there is probably more shady business going on behind the scenes. 5 stars for having what I needed and being open - 2 stars for hiring a bunch of punks to work there = 3 stars overall

Went in to get some questions answered on fixing my friends desktop. All of the employees were very friendly and extremely helpful. Im decently tech savvy but I do not know everything and what I didnt know they helped with easily. They even allowed us to test the size of a video card before purchase and after everything was paid for they allowed me to work on the computer in their shop with the use of their tools and then power it up to make sure the desktop worked. They were there to help along the way and answer any further questions that I had. I was super surprised at how helpful and nice they were and would recommend them to anyone who needs computer help or parts. I will definitely return to them for future assistance.

I am a repeat satisfied customer. They have helped me with a number of different issues on three different computers / operating systems, provided technical advice and answers and provided me the information I needed to make an informed decision. When the result was that work needed to be done on the computer, they gave me a clear explanation of what was needed and why, charged a fair price and did the work they promised - with no need to return to fix any "residual" problems that might have been created by the changes they made, or that werent apparent when first diagnosed. Bottom line - Ill continue to use them as my "go to" source for computer assistance and recommend them without hesitation to others.

Been here several times. They have lots of stuff that no one else around has. Store is kind of messy and sometimes the guys at the counter have to ask around before they can figure out where stuff is or if they have it at all. They have lots of used computers, but again half of them dont have prices or specs. Guy in the back with the giant beard seems to be the guy who actually does the repairs. Ask for him if you have questions. Five stars for being the only place around that actually has parts. One star off for being disorganized.

I went in thinking I was in need of a new jack for my computer. They told me they would do their very best to fix it in 24 hours as it was needed as soon as possible. As I was signing the paperwork, the man who was going to fix it ran out (during his lunch break) and swapped my old charging cord for a new one to be sure that wasnt the issue. It turns out, it was a smaller, less expensive fix! Im so grateful that they took the time to save me money and solve the problem for me, especially while on break. I cannot thank them enough.

Providence Computers has ALWAYS saved the day for ME! From repairing a thought-to-be-dead desktop computer that was sitting out in the garage for trash day to salvaging my daughters brand-new laptop which she had spilled some liquid on! I know who I will always depend on for my computer needs. Providence Computers ROCKS! Thanks so much for being there for me. Still rocking on with great service and awesome stuff. Helped me with a computer glitch over the phone and in seconds...problem fixed! Love these guys!

It may be a smaller shop, but they had everything I needed to build myself a killer gaming rig. When my laptop hard drive failed and BestBuy couldnt help me, these guys really saved my butt. They were even able to recover the data my nerd friend told me was lost for good. They really are a bunch of geeks (which I guess is a good thing). Make sure to ask for Josh! He always knows the answers to my questions no matter how esoteric. This is the only place I use.

I had a laptop that was plagued by slow speeds and my memory was full for no reason. I had taken it to two big box stores previously and paid way to much money for them to just put a bandaid on a bigger issue. I walked into Providence Computers and within 24 hours they fixed all the issues the big box stores overlooked and my system has never run better and the laptop is over five years old now. I will go back any time I have an issue.
