If you are seeking a home to rent in Hampton Roads VA (ie Chesapeake or Virginia Beach etc), and the property manager is from the Real Estate Group, please RUN as fast as you can the other way. Dealing with the property manager from this company (she also was a real estate agent for this company) was the worst experience I have ever had in moving throughout the US for 15 years at my job. Not only was this woman incompetent, she made the owner of the home and we the tenants suffer from her lack of communication skills and no sense of urgency when things broke in the home. To make matters worse, the standard Real Estate Group rental lease is loaded with items that squarely place responsibilities on the tenant as compared to the owner. For example, the tenant pays for yearly furnace and AC maintenance, yearly pest control, yearly chimney cleaning, yearly shampooing of the carpets, all landscaping to include mulch, and more. Furthermore, the tenant must use the company of the property managers choosing for all of these services...can you say hook-up? If you must rent via a manager from this company, I urge you to read the lease very, very, very carefully. I had them strike out several things, but didnt read carefully enough and missed a couple. It cost me. To complicate things, the property manager may add vague language during the walk-through and then deduct from you security deposit as ours did. I have never lost more than $75 on a security deposit over the last 15 years. This property manager deducted over $500 for described pet scratches/dirt, and a hole in the carpet the size of nickel (even taking into account that a nonrefundable pet damage fee was kept in addition). Money is one thing, but to deal with an incompetent manager, a horrible lease, and a woman that belittled our concerns over and over made living in this reasonably nice home a very bad experience. Lastly, to reiterate, think twice and thrice from renting a home if this company provides the property manager and lease.

My family rented a home in the Harbour View neighborhood within The Riverfront community. The Real Estate Group was the property management company for this house. THEY WERE THE WORST PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY!! Here are just a few issues we encountered: Prior to moving to the area, we asked the property manager who the utility companies were- they had no idea. Our nightmare just got started! On the day we moved in, we discovered the house had never been cleaned or improved from the previous tenant (despite what our lease states). We also quickly realized there was an ant infestation. Lovely. After much back and forth, a supervisor finally agreed to have the house cleaned. We lived in the house for 18 months and were excellent tenants. When there were issues, the property manager was very unaware of how to deal with them, so we usually just dealt with everything ourselves. Our rent was automatic on time every month. When we were moving out we specifically asked to do the home inspection WITH our property manager (Kristen Perecko) so there were no issues. The walk through went great and she said we would have our full security deposit back by the end of the month. SHE LIED. Once we moved out, we had to fight again back and forth with incompetent managers at The Real Estate Group to get a portion of our security deposit back. We could have easily sued this company, but my hope is a negative review will do far worse. I also hope other homeowners and tenants read this review and are warned that these property managers do not care about their clients homes or their tenants!

My boyfriend and I are in the beginning stages of house hunting. We contacted an agent referred to us by a friend who uses The Real Estate Group to manage her properties. We had called some other places before and didnt get any good feelings even talking to them on the phone. From the minute we called The Real Estate Group, it was different. They were friendly on the phone and really seemed like they wanted to help us. Were not quiet ready to buy yet, but we have so much information now, and a plan to work toward some goals, AND we know more about the process of searching for a home, getting a loan, and making sure we are protected by a great agent. Even though we just started we still get occasional emails from the agent we met with showing what is available. Cant wait to comeback in a few months and get serious about finding our dream home with a company that cares as much as we do about our first home!
