Do not take your vehicle here for State Inspection. There is a reason why they are standing around with no wait. They failed my 2006 SUV for the parking break not engaging soon enough. They stated that it has to engage at 1/5th of the way down. I had multiple emails exchanged with the Virginia State Police and they sent me the info from the inspection manual. 19VAC30-70-90. Brakes: emergency, parking, or holding. A. Some vehicles are equipped with an actual emergency brake, while others have only a parking or holding brake. Some types may be actuated by a foot or hand lever, while others may incorporate a switch or valve to actuate the brake. Air and vacuum brake systems may employ spring activating parking brakes. B. Inspect for and reject if: 1. Vehicle or combination of vehicles is not equipped with a parking, holding, or emergency brake in good working order of the type installed as original standard factory equipment for the vehicle on which it is installed. 2. The parking brake actuating mechanism does not fully release when the control is operated to the off position or if the parking brake lamp light remains on. NOTE: The light does not apply to vehicles that are not equipped with a parking (emergency) brake indicator light. 3. Any mechanical parts are missing, broken, badly worn, or are inoperative. 4. Cables are stretched, worn, or frayed or not operating freely. 5. Parking brake will not hold the vehicle stationary with the engine running at slightly accelerated speed with shift lever in drive position for automatic transmission or shift lever in low gear with clutch engaged for standard shift transmission. 6. Holding brake will not disengage when engine is started and vehicle is placed in drive. Holding brake will not hold vehicle stationary with foot on holding brake and vehicle in drive. 7. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, the vehicle will start in any gear other than (P) park and (N) neutral. If the gearshift indicator does not identify the park (P) and neutral (N) positions, then the vehicle shall be rejected. 8. On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, the vehicle will start in any gear if the clutch is not depressed or disengaged. NOTE: This will not apply to older vehicles, which were not originally equipped with a neutral-safety switch, clutch disengagement system or clutch pedal position sensor by the manufacturer. 9. The accelerator does not disengage after being depressed, allowing the engine to return to a normal idle speed. 10. The storage battery is not attached to a fixed part of the motor vehicle or protected by a removable cover or enclosure if the battery is installed in a location other than the engine compartment. This includes all brackets, hardware, bolts, and bushings used for securely mounting the storage battery to the vehicle. a. Removable covers or enclosures shall be substantial and shall be securely latched or fastened. b. The storage battery compartment shall have openings to provide ample battery ventilation and drainage. c. Whenever the cable to the starting motor passes through a metal compartment, the cable shall be protected against grounding by an acid and waterproof insulating bushing. d. Whenever a battery and a fuel tank are both placed under the drivers seat, they shall be partitioned from each other, and each compartment shall be provided with an independent cover, ventilation, and drainage. NO WHERE does it say that it has to engage at 1/5th of the way down (foot pedal parking break). Needless to say, I will never take my vehicle to a Tune Up Plus ever again for anything. If they cant be trusted with something as simple as a $16 state inspection they arent touching my vehicles.

“Ladies Beware” I am a single older woman who has a diesel bus which I had converted into an RV. I was using Eric at the Harris Tire located at Landstown Traffic Circle until they closed. When my bus started not getting fuel while driving I took it to Paul at the Harris Tire off of Battlefield. I also scheduled an oil change at the same time. After keeping the bus for several days I was told by Paul that the best case scenario was that I needed the injector seals and harness replaced at a price of $2,200 or worst case scenario that the injectors needed to be replaced as well at a price of $6,600. Oh yeah the price of the oil change was $400. When I started calling around to actual diesel mechanics I was told that price quoted was insane. I was told by everyone that I called that the price on worst case scenario would have been less than half of what I was quoted. Same for the price of the oil change. When I spoke to Paul about this, he wanted to know who I called which I was happy to tell him. Then he told me that no one was going to give me a cheaper price on an oil change using Rotella Oil (which is the main oil that is used on the 7.3 engine). After this call, he became very aggravated at the situation and was extremely rude. He told me that the bus was not drivable and that I would have to have it towed. When I arrived at the shop to pick up my bus – they had not put the dog house back or connected the wires. Paul was extremely aggressive while I was there and actually yelled at me in front of all of the other customers saying that the Injectors were the problem no matter what anyone else said. Oh yeah and he was going to be nice and discount the oil change by less than $50 even though he did not charge me the 5 hours of investigating the problem. After all of this let me tell you what was really the scariest thing of all. After speaking to all of the diesel techs I specifically asked Paul if he checked the fuel pickup and he said of course he did. My bus has now been fixed and surprise it was the fuel pickup as well as 2 screens that are in the fuel tank. The charge for this repair was $250.00 not anywhere near the $6,600 I was quoted and almost half the cost of a simple oil change. The injectors are NOT the issue. Funny how each and every mechanic I simply spoke to over the phone said the problem was mostly likely in the fuel tank. I was fortunate enough to find Sal with Tact Auto located right there in Greenbrier. He is the best and most honest mechanic I have found. I absolutely despise companies that make it their mission to ripe off women. However, I should have known since they are affiliated with Firestone who does the same things when selling tires.

I made an appointment for Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 and let my job know I would be leaving early. I left early, drove the 30 minutes (since its near my home) and showed up on time. They told me they could not do an oil change that late in the day! I had an appointment and left work early!! The guy said he could do it the next morning at 8am and to make up for it he would give me an upgrade to Mobile 1 oil. Whatever, I was annoyed but re-scheduled for 8am and pushed another appointment back to 10am because they told me it would be 45min-1hr. I show up at 8am, there are no other customers there yet. I told the guy that Sean promised me Mobile 1 oil, he said he would have to talk to a manager. He went to the back and when he came back told me that they would not be honoring the promise Sean made me and that Sean was not in today. Not happy, he told me it would be 45min-1hr again and I went next door to the McDonalds for some breakfast. I returned in 1hr. I asked if my car was ready and they said no, they hadnt taken it back yet and that there were people ahead of me!! I WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE WHEN I DROPPED MY CAR OFF FOR MY 8AM APPOINTMENT!! Very angry, I told him I wanted a refund. He apologized and said they would take my car back right now. I said fine, how long will take? He said... 45MIN TO AN HOUR!! At this point Im beyond angry but I have a seat and wait for them to do my oil change. I was now going to be late to my 2nd appointment. After he finishes he comes out to tell me I need about $750 worth of additional work done to my car. Did he really think I was going to come back here???
