To say Im disappointed in this salon is an understatement. I started off being very happy coming here because the haircuts were fabulous. Once I added in color, things took a turn for the worse. The first time I had color done it was $230 and once I got home I realized it wasnt what I wanted but I also didnt think I was specific enough in what I wanted. And because I spent so much I asked to have to fixed and she did. All was well. This second time I went in for a cut only but I had a picture showing exactly what I wanted. The cut was spot on! I then mentioned I wanted to come back a few days later for the EXACT color in the picture. She told me how to schedule the appointment so shed have enough time and was confident shed be able to give me the color I wanted. Now Im back at the salon a few days later for color. I once again show her the picture. My hair at the time was light brown with red tones and a few highlights. The picture was hair with much more highlights and the front specifically very blonde on the ends. She said she would have to gradually get the front that blonde in order to not damage my hair. I was completely okay with that. I then said these EXACT words...."I just want my hair brighter". So she proceeds to add color to my roots and then I saw some foils added but the color mixture wasnt light. I started to get concerned. Then after it was rinsed she didnt add a toner so I then got more concerned. I went and sat back in the chair with my wet hair and I immediately knew my hair was way too dark. As she was drying my hair I think even she knew it wasnt right. I could just sense her worry. After it was dry. My hair was dark brown....WAY darker than it was before I came in with NO highlights. I immediately said it wasnt what I wanted. She then said "well were at a good starting point". How is making my hair super dark a starting point when I asked for highlights?????!!!!! I left the salon in tears which is something that hasnt happened to me in YEARS. I got home and immediately emailed the salon. I expressed my dissatisfaction and also showed pictures of my hair before I came in, and what it looked like after, along with the same picture I showed Sophie of what I wanted. I asked for a refund because at this point I wasnt letting her near my hair with color. I received a call back and they agreed to refund my money. What upset me the most is when they asked Sophie what happened she said she thought I was in agreement with the result and that there must have been miscommunication. I dont know how in the heck I could have been any more clear in what I wanted. There was NO miscommunication on my end. To make things worse, apparently in order to credit the tip they had to run another charge through therefore causing a duplicate charge for the same amount to be taken out of my available checking account balance. I was told it would fall off overnight when in fact it took 3 days. It was a huge inconvenience!!! I have since found another salon and spent 3 hours correcting the mess that was done at Xanadu by Sophie. My husband is in the military so ive been to SO many salons across the country. Ive never ever had an experience like this before. The sad thing is, if Sophie had just acknowledged that it wasnt right imstead of trying to put the blame on me, this all could have been avoided.

I cannot say enough about my experience at Xanadu Hair Salon. From the friendliness on the phone when I made my appointment, to the greeting I received when I walked in the door to my check out process, I felt like the stylists here cared about what was best for me. See, I had not colored my hair in ten years or so, and visited a salon in Virginia Beach that did a botched ombré. It looked like my hair was dip dyed. Not only that but this particular beach salon disregarded my request for facial waxing and also curled my hair at the end of my color. I couldnt see what they did... Xanadu changed my mind on what I thought a proper salon Experience should be. I sought out the best to correct my hair, and I received the best. Their Best of Hampton Roads and Best of Virginia awards are appropriately earned. I was lucky enough to get an appointment with Danise, the owner and a Master Stylist, but I would have gladly sat for any of their masters, after reading their profiles on Xanadus professional webpage. Danise perfected color for my complexion and even cut my hair in a style that complemented the color. At the beginning of the appointment, an esthetician even was able to wax my eyebrows. This was something I didnt schedule and there was no inkling of a fuss about that fact. The coloring process these stylists use is incredible. Their products do not have odor (I left the previous salon with a headache so bad I even had to take a muscle relaxer) and through the process they condition your hair. Everyone is pleasant, interested in what you want and what is best for your look, and professional. The salon is beautiful and clean and modern. I liked that my stylist had someone assisting her. I spent hundreds of dollars on this visit. I did not have to. I left with products. Products that werent pushed on me, but sold themselves when my hair was finished. I couldnt go anywhere else for now on and I regret not finding this salon sooner.

My daughter got her hair colored yesterday and it cost almost $300.00! I called today to ask what over the counter shampoo to use and I was told they cant recommend anything except what they sell...which is ridiculously over priced. When I asked why, I was told the technicians are not educated on the over the counter shampoos. What?? So then I asked what I could look for in an over the counter product for color treated hair, for example, Sulfate Free. They were not able to answer that either. What?? I asked what made them "educated" on the two shampoos they sell. I was told the reps for those companies come out and tell then about the shampoos. I couldnt help but laugh. Marketing and education is not the same thing! If you are a true hair tech, you should be able to recommend a wide variety of shampoo brands for your client, not just the two you are forced to push on the consumer. Extremely disappointed and I am not sure I will allow my child to return to the salon. Again, all I asked was for a recommendation not a run around.

They can do some amazing work here. They are also wonderfully friendly and professional. Especially with some of the more... lets use the phrase trying clients. I have seen some people come in here who need some serious attitude adjustments, but everyone who works in the salon is astoundingly professional. You should expect to pay salon prices, but the prices are reasonable considering what they do and depending on what you ask for. This is not Supercuts, and you most definitely get what you pay for. Theyre also wonderful at giving you an estimate before they get started with any hair color. I have been here many times and have always left happy. I must say that Katie and Joana have always done a wonderful job on me. I recommend this salon to anyone looking for a reputable, dependable salon with some wonderful hairdressers.
