I have been working with Virginia Payne and Long and Foster Property Management for a few years now. The experience has wavered between "mediocre" and "horrible". I think pretty much everything could have been handled better. I think the biggest problem is that Long and Foster simply doesnt care. Everybody is human, everybody makes mistakes - but not caring at all if they do a good job is what really makes this a bad company. At every step of the way its been clear that Long and Foster does not care: - Repairs that cost way more than they should? Who cares? Its not our money! - Should we notify the owner before doing the costly repairs, like we said we would? Nah, who cares? Its not our money! - The tenant had a dog and wasnt supposed to? Who cares? Its not our money! - The house is sitting for months without being rented because of totally fixable issues, like a bad dog smell from the tenant who wasnt supposed to have dogs? Hrm... thats a little bit of our money... but not too much so who cares? Also we definitely shouldnt notify the owner at all that people are complaining about a dog smell. I have also caught them lying to me multiple times, and once they suggested that I lie to the water company about the severity of a leak (confirming that they are totally willing to lie). In the end Long and Fosters poor management has cost me many thousands of dollars. I estimate roughly $7000 and counting of totally preventable costs. And I am not a rich man, Im just a guy who got a job out of town and couldnt sell his house right away so I was forced to get renters. I deeply regret working with them.

This company is a complete fraud. I HIGHLY recommend that you not rent from Long and Foster property management in Newport News nor do I recommend that you list your property with them as your management team. I recently moved out from a property that I rented for a year. My experience was less than stellar. There were issues with the company saying they didnt receive a payment when it was sent, and I had to be the one to prove it was paid instead of them being able to look through their received payments (obviously they have poor accounting practices.) There was a repair request that they ignored citing that the repair would be too expensive and would raise my rent cost, then upon move out they charged me for the damage from the ignored repair request! Obviously, I am contesting this and will proceed in court if needed but what a headache. Lastly, they are trying to charge a fee to have the fireplace inspected when it was NEVER used. The gas to the fireplace was never even turned on, but I am responsible for some obscure fee to inspect the non functioning fireplace? If you or your family have any choice for rental companies please save yourself the hassle and headache by avoiding L&F Newport News

The best advice I can give is stay away from these people. Where can i begin, contractors that cant actually fix anything, incompetence in management, concerns being ignored, all the way to downright lies. They are also going to charge you every month for some little fee they dreamed up, renew leases without your consent, get a monkey to manage your property before using these guys.

We rented a property that Long and Foster managed when we first moved to New Port News Virginia. We had NO problems with them. Whenever we had a issue and called them, they were prompt to contact us.
