Im fairly new in town and got a recommendation for this place from a local who had never had any problems with basic service - tires, brakes, oil changes, etc. I decided to give them a try for an oil change on my 1999 Honda Prelude to see how it would go. The pluses - I got an employer discount, so my oil change was reasonably priced at $24 (instead of the usual $34). Overall nice employees, fairly easy to talk to, and though I didnt take advantage of it, supposedly they do offer a local shuttle. The minuses - As others have mentioned, they leave cars out in the sun with the doors unlocked and key in the ignition when theyre done. They also "poked around" and recommended over $900 in repairs, from somewhat serious-sounding, to almost laughable. My car is barely worth that much. A couple of the best: $300+ for a transmission fluid flush. Honda specifically recommends against pressurized transmission fluid flushes since it can knock junk loose and end up causing your transmission to fail within a couple thousand miles. When I asked about this, they said "we do 5 Honda transmission flushes a day, and never have a problem. Ask the woman whose Honda van broke down just inside of warranty, and she couldnt get it fixed under warranty because she hadnt done the recommended maintenance on her transmission like fluid flushes." That would be a great sell, except for the fact that my car is now 11 years old, and Im the 3rd owner, so its clearly out of warranty. $300+ for a military-grade lens restoration. I asked why it was $300 when 3M sells a DIY lens-restoration kit on Amazon for $17. "Well this is the military-grade stuff they use to clean fighter jet canopies," they said. Great, next time I bring in my F-14, Ill be sure to get the canopy cleaned. For less than $300, I could get an entire new lens assembly. Needless to say, I didnt get any of their recommended services done, just stuck with the oil change. They were gracious enough when I declined all their recommendations, which is why they get 2 stars - at least they didnt go too far with trying to pressure me. Only thing to say is: BE ON GUARD FOR THE UPSELL.

I had recently moved to the area from out of state and was looking to have the initial inspection done on two vehicles. The first vehicle was inspected without issue. I thought I had found a good honest place to have my vehicles serviced. I then returned with my second vehicle and received a notice that the required repairs for the vehicle were going to run a $1k with another $1k in recommended repairs. This news was received after having just inspected the vehicle out of state in the prior month. Since I usually service my own vehicle, currently don’t have a garage to work in, I knew most of those things were not legitimate. I then took my vehicle to another location and had it inspected again. Only 2 items were mentioned for repair. These items were things that I knew would be questionable and didn’t mind having done, and realize that the opinions of mechanics can vary on what needs replaced for normal maintenance items. The total bill was under $200 vs. the $1k that Reston Tire and Automotive would have charged. My personal opinion is that they saw an opportunity, since I was wearing a suit for work and was being shuttled to and from work, to list things that didn’t need done or are very subjective. They are betting that the inconvenience of having to bring your car back or take it to another place, along with being a white collar professional, will make me payout for unnecessary work. The reality is that I may wear a suite for work, but I’m also very knowledgeable and experienced in cars and automotive repair.

I brought my 2000 Honda Civic LX in for repairs. They charged me $108 for 4 platinum plugs plus another $128 for the time needed to install. OEM platinum plugs from Honda Fairfax cost $19.80 each. They also charged $640 for a loaded distributor. Again Fairfax Honda charged $521. Notice a trend? AdvanceAutoParts sells Platinum plugs for $1.99 each that come w/ a 3 year warranty, and a loaded distributor for $259 with a limited lifetime warranty. Their excuse was that they have to stand behind the parts they put in. Even if I had to replace the plugs 67 times, I still wouldnt spend the money they charged me. I asked to see the plugs after my mother told me that she had just them replaced and I was told they were already disposed of. I came one hour after they told me the repairs were made, so I dont believe that they were gone. I also dont believe that they needed to be replaced. I was also told that they needed to be replaced because gasoline could seep into the ceramic and cause the core to fail. Even if the counter jockey was an experts in ceramics I wouldnt believe this. I asked what re-manufactured distributor part they put into my car, and they cant tell me. Evidently they dont keep records of what they buy or install. The ticket simply said "Reman - Dist". I called back three days later as recommended so that I could obtain my information, and they still cant, or wont tell me what they put in my car. This was a case of a repair shop taking advantage of an uneducated person.

I dont normally take my time to write a review but I feel i need to for this business. I took my car twice to them, because they are very close to my home. The first time they worked on my VM Wiygul misdiagnosed my gas tank problem and had to reorder the part. Not only that, when they did the misdiagnosed their mechanic broke a part in the process that they wanted me to pay and charge me extra labor hours! It was a big hassle and the service took 3 days to have my car fixed. Second time I took my same car in the morning for safety and they had the car all day long. When I picked up the car, it had a failed inspection sticker. I called the next morning and spoke to the manager (Jamie) and he told me the car failed because it had a bad stopping timing. I asked for a better explanation because that was very unclear and he told me he didnt have time to talk to me and if I wanted I could bring the car in for a break check at an extra cost. I took the car to another service provider and it passed with out any issues. The odd thing is that the car already had new pad installed 2 weeks before. PLEASE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THIS BUSINESS. I KNOW ABOUT CARS AND REPAIRS SO THIS IS WHY THEY DIDNT RIP ME OUT OF MY MONEY. BUT MANY PEOPLE DONT AND I FEEL BAD ABOUT THAT. THEY OVER SALE AND GIVE BAD RECOMMENDATIONS. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS!

These guys are good! I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport HSE which is a somewhat complex vehicle. They have a no-touch tire machine which saves my 20" aluminum rims form being damaged. I went around the back of their shop to watch from outside as they mounted and balanced the last tire and the process was very professional. Harry, their tech, was as careful as I imagine he would be with his own rims. They put extra sealant on the rim to make sure no leaks occurred. This step is not universally followed, but is a bonus. The tires were spin balanced for high speed performance and installed on the car using the alternate side lug nut tightening technique to ensure proper installation. Their prices are reasonable and downright cheap when you consider how well the work is performed. I have a few high dollar cars and trust them with all my tire needs. The tires ride as well or better than the Michelins I replaced and have no shake or pull all the way up to triple digit speeds. I had no problems with my complex air-bag suspension coming down from the lift, however they were aware of what to check for and prepared to deal with it if necessary. Save yourself money, time and headaches, go to Wiygul Automotive on SunSet Hills Road.
