Before opening a PO Box at this location I decided to look at the reviews, they were all AWFUL! But I told myself that they couldnt possibly mess up a transaction that simple; so I went ahead and opened a PO Box there......BAD IDEA!!!! After 3 weeks of not getting any mail in the PO Box I realized something had to be wrong so I went in to speak to the clerk. I was told the box was never officially opened! So all the mail that was sent to me was sent back! My new drivers license was sent back, my new social security card was sent back and a lot of other important urgent mail was sent back due to the box being closed although it was supposed to be open weeks ago. I have to go out of state and now I have no documents or ID since those workers at the Post Office cant do a SIMPLE task! I mean how hard is it to open a PO Box once a customer pays you for it????? I am sure its a simple process to assign a PO Box to someone, its amazing that weeks have passed without ONE employee noticing that the specific PO Box should be open since someone recently paid to open it! The clerk I dealt with seemed like he hated his job and didnt have a care in the world, probably which is why he didnt open the PO Box the same day I paid for it. The Post Master doesnt seem to care about what his employees do either; and this is obvious due to the negative reviews. You would think that after seeing 28 HORRIBLE reviews he would make some changes or fire some people!!! My old Post Office had 5 stars with great reviews so its not like people are singling out the Sandston post office! I brought this to the attention of Consumer Affairs and the lady that answered gave me an attitude as if I was inconveniencing her; she also hung up on me and told me that I couldnt leave a review on Google and voice my opinion or experience! USPS needs to do something about that location, clearly I am not the only person experiencing problems because they have BAD reviews! They are a disgrace and something needs to be done immediately!

Ah, the Sandston post office, where packages and letters destined for and out of Virginia go to die. While Im glad to see one person out of fourteen has had luck with their package ever leaving the facility (which should be a right and not a privilege), my family is part of the unfortunate rest of the world that hasnt been so lucky. God forbid you ever send something without tracking and it reaches this facility... we sent acceptance letters for our PhD stipends (of the utmost importance, otherwise we would have not had any income while working on our graduate degrees for six years) via certified mail, and they stopped dead at this facility. A week went by and our letters were still there. Calls to this post office were met with nothing but rudeness and the familiar "we cant help you with that." Once we were even HUNG UP ON. To this day, the tracking is frozen at Sandston, VA like it was the Bermuda Triangle or something. Luckily we were able to work something out with the school that did not require the use of the U.S. mail system and it took over a month. Its been a year and the letters never arrived at UVA, nor did we receive a delivery confirmation of any kind. I think this is egregious and would encourage anyone who has suffered a similar experience to write to as many authorities as possible urging them to either close or seriously overhaul this facility. We should NOT be paying money only to have our mail held up for weeks or worse, lost forever.

Worst post office in America. The mail couriers are BLATANTLY rude and disrespectful. Our regular mail lady clearly hates her life, her job, and people. I have lost count of how many times she has purposefully run over recycle bins on our street. Never on time to deliver things. All we ever receive nowadays is junk mail. She takes two seconds at each mailbox, doesnt even look at what she is delivering, and slams it into the box. Constantly speeding down our street and slamming on brakes at mailboxes. Today I met her at my mailbox and she defiantly glared me right in the face, shoved one advertisement into my mailbox, slammed it, and sped off as fast as she could before slamming on her breaks at the next box. I have been waiting a week for a package to arrive, and it took 3 weeks for my last package to show up even though it only took a few days to reach Sandston. Once the mail courier saw my mother in her driveway, waiting for a package to be delivered...the woman did not even get out of her truck, she taped a "sorry we missed you!" notice to our mailbox without even trying to deliver it. My mom had to chase her to the end of our road and demand she hand over the package...this is the worst business Ive ever had to deal with.

I was informed earlier this year from the retail and Postmaster of this facility that they did not have to accept my General Delivery mail because they did not know me. Since 9-11, they would have to know me before they accepted my mail at their facility. I had never had this issue at any other post office I have ever dealt with. I believe that when you have any issues with this post office, that you notify the area manager in DC and let him know by email or by letter, the difficulties you are having. There are many competent people that woujld love an opportunity to work for the post office. I was told later by the retail clerks that they charged a fee for General Delivery and that an application had to be filled out,(which they did not have.) This facility needs serious supervision. I need a local facility to receive my mail and this one appears to have serious issues. If you dont complain to the proper authorities, you will continue to get get substandard service. I give them two chances, then I move to report the issue to the proper authorities. There is no excuse for this. The Midlothian Post Office is a great place to work with, I regret that I no longer live in their area.

Moved from Sandston 7 months ago, forgot to update Paypal. Ebay auction shipped to old address, arrived on Saturday Aug 6. Thats when the tracking stopped. Im getting other mail redirected from this address, so I know they have my new address in their system. Since Saturday the USPS site says my package was "redirected", my new address is about a 20min drive from this post office. When I called on Monday Aug 8th for an update, the woman that answered the phone said, verbatim; "I am not someone that can help you". She then mentioned something about the post master coming in the next day at 7am and to call then. They do not open until 9a. On Wednesday Aug 10, I finally talked to someone that does NOT hate people, was told again, its in transit. He then referred me to the Consumer Affairs Division in Richmond, the woman there said all the same things, and added "well, it could be at the sort facility, Ill check". She sent an email and told me to call back Friday if my package hasnt been delivered by then. This is the same level of service that most business in Sandston provide to their customers and the main reason I left.
