I have never posted a negative review. But in this case, Ill make an exception. I had been taking my car to them for quite some time, and they have always been prompt, professional, and courteous. All the things you would expect from a good service company, right? But, if you happen to have some sort of a unique situation, theyll look at you like a deer in headlights. Heres what happened... My car needed a new transmission. Cost of repair/replacement would be around $2300. For a car that is not even worth that much, it was kind of a stretch. I asked that they give my car a good look over before we decide to invest the $2300, in case my car needed any additional repairs. The next day, they called and said that there is nothing wrong with the car. And they then asked is I wanted to move forward with the $2300 transmission project. I said, "if nothing else is wrong with my car, then please proceed." When they finished the transmission replacement, they called and said that the car was ready. So far so good, right? Heres the kicker.... They said... "Oh, by the way, youre due for an inspection. Do you want us to do it for you? But itll take another day before we can get to it." By this point, theyve had the car for over 10 days. Im tired of paying for a rental. I was really ready to have my car back. Now, they have to keep it one more day. All for a $10 state inspection. I said, "sure, youve had it for 10 days, whats one more day." They came back and said that my car failed inspection because of a litany of issues that need to be addressed. The cost of the repairs, AN ADDITIONAL $2000. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! I specifically asked for them to look the car over before doing the transmission job. I dont care is this was an honest mistake, or if they intentionally knew that I wouldnt go ahead with the job if they would tell me about the other problems. Regardless, it was poor management on their part. So, I left their business pissed off beyond belief. Drove to a dealership and traded in my P.O.S for a BMW. And I havent looked back. In the following months, I would proceed to receive mailers from them. So, I called them politely asking them to remove me from their mailing list. They said that its done. I have now received yet another mailer. I guess, if they wont remove me from their list, I will post my experience, so that you, the reader, know what youre getting yourselves into. Frankly, this bad experience could have been a result of miscommunication. But there was no contrition or willingness to make things right. They are good at simple projects that are straight forward. But if something goes wrong, theyll just look at you like a "deer in headlights" with no idea how to "make things right". A true measure of a company is how they handle negative situations. And by this measure, they have FAILED MISERABLY.

I called them at about 9am to ask about wait times to have my vehicle checked. Bill told me that he could most likely have my car looked at by at least 2pm, so i agreed to leave it as I had to be to work at 5pm. I also asked for an oil change. By 3:00 in the afternoon I had not heard anything from them, called and was told my car had not even been looked at yet, and was told they would call me back in about 45 minutes to let me know. Around 4:30 no one had called me so I contacted them and was first told my problem was non-existent. (Why would I have taken it in if there wasnt a problem?) then was told that my power steering fluid was leaking through a bad tie rod gasket. So, naturally they wanted to replace the ENTIRE steering rack for a hefty price of about $1300 (On a 13 year old car? Really?) and proceeded to charge me $73 for doing absolutely nothing but confirming what I told them when I dropped it off. Then said it was a 4+ hour job either way and would cost 1k anywhere. WRONG!! Needless to say I didnt make it to work either. I went to B Automotive off Va Beach Blvd and explained my situation and getting an estimate from repair pal, they quoted me a price of $369 TOTAL for labor hours an the part. The part was $158 and the labor $211. He guaranteed to have it done by tomorrow afternoon. Seriously, dont trust Protime, they just want your money in exchange for a headache.

Dishonest Crooks...ProTime should be ashamed of themselves. I was using them for years when I discovered they had been lying to me to get more money out of me. As a non-mechanical female I trusted them. They told me I needed transmission fluid change or my engine would be harmed after only 25,000 miles on my car. They told me I needed new brakes on the front and back after only 30,000 miles. They said the breaks were so bad that I would not pass inspection and it was a safety risk and could do the service right away. I decided to get a second option since I had not noticed any problems and it was several hundred dollars. I took my car to two other mechanics for a second opinion just to find out my breaks were better than average and that transmission fluid doesnt need to me changed that often. I spent hundreds of dollars more than I needed to. I am sad that I was loyal to this dishonest company for so long. Please seek a second opinion before you buy services from them.

My husband went to our local NAPA Auto Care Center today (formerly Protime Automotive) at 4880 Haygood Rd Virginia Beach VA, 23455, to have a headlight bulb replaced. He was quoted $65 to replace a single headlight bulb! Hed had one replaced a couple of years ago by Protime for $12. I had one replaced a couple of months later for $16. We would have been willing to pay the $16, but $65??? The gentleman at the counter said it was for the half hour labor. Really??? It takes all of 5 minutes! My husband then took it to another garage we frequent, Roosevelt BP, and they charged $26. Im going to get my niece to show me how to replace a bulb. Shes a gearhead for Toyota. Im also going to be sharing this on my Facebook page and other social media. This is definitely price gouging in my opinion!

I have been getting my two vehicles serviced at Protime Automotive since they opened at the Bayside location. Owner Howard Forbes and his service team are always very kind, courteous, and willing to make my experience there as comfortable as possible. From simple oil changes to complex engine issues, Protime Automotives mechanics are highly skilled at getting the job done right the first time. To me, that speaks volumes in terms of quality. They know that they are in the service industry, and they strive to earn a customers repeat business. Ive always admired Howard for his down-to-earth demeanor, and he hired a staff that is personable and polite. I will continue bringing my vehicles to Protime Automotive, and continue to recommend them to everyone needing auto service. Thank you!
