I am a former Ballys member that ended up at La Fitness. Since I had many hours of prepaid personal training sessions on book, I was assigned a PT, who turned out not to be willing/able to work with me as I am physically challenged in a wheelchair. So onto next PT who was personable and willing to learn and was a quick learner. I was able to teach him how to handle me when I moved from chair to machine and what machines I was able to use, Then he left. Then the third PT was just right. So I bought more training sessions. So for over a year it has been what was needed to keep me going and out of a nursing home. But today as he entered the building he was let go but we did get to have a last session (still have 21 prepaid sessions on book). The PT Manager so far has been uncooperative in talking to me (he has my phone number) to set up a different PT. I ride the paratransit bus which requires 3 day notice for scheduling. Finally thru a third party he said he would call when he found someone. Hey, I paid on time. Cannot use equipment without someone to assist. I show up on time. am ready to go and push myself harder than any trainer would. Secondly, I require the use of a pool chair to get into pool. For the first two months at club they were unable to get it to work. Then it worked for awhile and then didnt and then they told me quite abruptly that they no longer could hold the swing chair as I transferred from my w/c nor could they take a few seconds to push button to lower or raise chair into or out of pool. They said they met law by having chair and thats that. So I recruited other members to hold chair and push button (unreachable by anyone sitting in swing). I wrote a procedure that set out the steps and responsibilities of LA Fitness, myself, and my volunteers. And it was still up to me to ensure battery had been put in charger and put back in chair when needed. To say La Fitness is geared to the senior citizen or physically challenged is a very long shot. I do not recommend it to anyone who expects service. Once they have your money, they would like to choose to ignore. If you do not let them ignore you they try to make it impossible to stay - no compassion. I even had to show them how to set up handicap bathrooms since they were ignorant or did not care or something.

This place meets all my needs and impresses me in a few ways. It has an adequate number and types of machines, weights etc, a pool with a great hot tub that has jets that actually do something, a sauna in the locker rooms, four racquetball courts (I LOVE this feature), a basketball court, bike room, dance/class room and a kids daycare play area. Almost every staff member has proven to be top notch, even when I got grouchy. The members have been very friendly and helpful - I even made a buddy to play racquetball with, plus I discovered they have racquetball tournaments every month or so. There is, of course room for improvement which is the reason I held back one star on my rating. Battery life and a weak cellular data connection on my phone have been troublesome for me, and I absolutely MUST have my phone when I work out for music at the very least...they could haves machines that have USB charger ports, and/or having a wifi connection available, both of which would help to use less battery and to obtain good data connection. The locker room floors could be cleaned up a bit and swiped over more often. Quite a few cardio machines seem to have broken down lately and its taking a while to get them back in action. The corporate jerks wont let them control their own TVs so they cant change the channels...EVER. I know Im being picky here, but I really wish they had elliptical a that have variable swinging action thats more human controlled (example: Precore Adaptive Motion Trainer)...they had them at a couple gyms I used in the past and Im so spoiled I cant even use the normal ellipticals anymore. Thats really not a very long list of things that could improve. Im so happy I live so close to this gym!!!

The general manager at this location is the epitome of why many people do not like trainers and sales people. I have been to many LA Fitness locations and have talked to many trainiers in the past. However, it is very seldom that I will agree to set an appointment for their "free" training session since I know that they will just want to sell me sessions. BUT I figured it might be a good "switch up" to my training routine so I went ahead and made the appointment. At my fitness consultation he was rude, demeaning and arrogant. He was so unprofessional and kept on asking me questions about my personal life that were in NO WAY related to my fitness or progress. Also, in my opinion, a person shouldnt be allowed to give fitness advice when they dont walk the talk. You know what I mean?! He was "skinny fat" and looked like he never lifted a weight in his life. The ladies at the front desk do not pay any attention to you. They will look at you dead in the face and 90% of the time wont say "hello" or "goodbye." In other words, the customer service is terrible. Its unfortunate because the gym itself is nice but the people that you have to see everytime you walk in are disappointing.

Someone broke into me and another members lockers and stole our keys to our vehicles and other items I had to have the truck towed to a dealership to get it rekeyed for $553 I was out of a lot of money if someone was at that front desk watching everyone who comes in and out this would not have happened cuz the person came in through the front door with bolt cutters to cut locks off of lockers They obviously waited until no one was at the front desk Also if I knew that this was something that happened regularly I would not have left my keys to the truck in my locker Yes they do have cameras in the parking lot and in the workout area. No one but no one working there remember seeing the person LA Fitness is not responsible for any stolen items. And the person was never caught who stole my items from my locker and my vehicle. Now I know to never leave the keys to my vehicle in the locker and nothing of value.

I like the gym and refuse to transfer to another due to the fact that it is close to home. The staff seems nicer than in 2009 and it is decently occupied (not too crowded, not to not crowded). However.....in the interview I was lied to at least 5 times. (By Member service rep Patrick V) My wife has stopped going due to predatory trainers- I would literally watch them circle her from the balcony as the crowd cleared out and interrupt her workout talking to her for up to a half hour. One of those trainers is still there. He is tall, black, named "Rob L." Apparently the guy has a story about his fat dead mother and failed basketball career he pushes to his clients. He talks more than he trains. MsLadyFits comments fit perfectly with my experience. This is the same gym my boss offered to hire one of the trainers for $50K/yr to keep his mouth closed.
