I studied martial arts previously at a very traditional school in a very traditional form. I loved the art of the old style but felt limited in the practical applications, and as a woman I feel the need to be well versed in self-defense should the need arise. When I joined Leading Edge, I started off with just the kickboxing class and boy did it show me where I needed work! With the knowledgeable help of Sifu Staab and his assistant instructors, the support of the wonderful student base and the non-competitive environment I was able to learn to hit and kick harder than I ever have before, but minus the injuries that came along with my old training. Along with that came the plus of getting more in shape and developing muscles and skills I didn’t know I had. The other thing I loved about the Muay Thai training was holding the targets for my partner because you still get a workout and can improve your coordination and defense even when you aren’t hitting. After awhile I decided to join the JKD program which satisfied my need for a more traditional martial arts experience in addition to learning stick and knife defenses and forms which I love. My little brother eventually joined the kickboxing and the jiu-jitsu classes in order to achieve his fitness goals and LEKBMA has been a wonderful source of bonding for us. I cannot stress how knowledgeable and professional the instructors are, and how they always keep your best interests and safety in mind and this alone puts the school above the rest in my opinion. The other students are amazing – there is no competition here or problems with guys being too rough with the girls (which I have unfortunately seen in many schools) – everyone is there to learn and better themselves in some way and support each other. I don’t personally have children in the kids class but seeing them train before adult class you see the kids grow up before your eyes and if you ever want to shed a tear go and watch the Full Circle kids testing – those children are amazing with the focus that Sifu Staab inspires in them! Bottom line, LEKBMA gave me more confidence in myself and my abilities in all aspects of my life.

This is a great place to learn and get a good workout. I have been training there for over a year and really enjoy the teachers and working with the other students there. The school offers a variety of different classes at different times of the day and they are able to work with people at all different levels. I have been working mostly at the Boot Camp and Kickboxing classes. The boot camp offers great variety of exercises and focuses on strengthening the core. The work out is different every time and uses body weight, free weights and kettle bells. The teachers are always willing to offer modified exercises for people who need to go a bit easier as they build up strength. They don’t push people to compete to the point of injuring themselves. We work together in small groups and encourage each other to work hard without overdoing it. There are two levels of Muay Thai/Kickboxing classes. The basic kickboxing focuses on punching and basic kicking. The advanced classes add more complex combinations with clinches, elbow strikes and a greater variety of kicks. All of the work is done with a partner who holds pads and we move around as we work together. When I was looking for a new place, I visited a few other schools that worked mostly on standing bags, and I really like working with partners as we practice. The teachers are good at explaining the techniques, and they often provide more complex options for more advanced students. They watch and coach as people are working, making sure people are safe and helping them improve without overwhelming them. Previously I’ve trained in Tai Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do Karate. I really like working out at this school, it’s a great combination of learning and exercise.

Where to begin… Leading Edge Kickboxing has been a blessing to my family in more ways than one. I first learned of LEK when my son was assaulted by 2 boys at school. My 12-year-old son was being bullied. Every parent’s worse nightmare, right? Some of the emotions that come when your child is a victim include, but are not limited to, anger and frustration. I shared my concerns with a family member, and he highly recommended LEK. That same day I brought my son to LEK. My goal for him was to kick some butt. Please, teach him whatever he needs to know to take someone out. I look back at that time and it makes me grateful for the instructors. My ability to understand was limited, but their ability to understand, care, and teach helped my son surpass any goals I had. The instructors and fellow students have taught and continue to teach my son the art of martial arts which in turn has made him the humble, kind, intelligent, and confident young man he is today. He continues to run into problems, but the difference today is that he has learned to handle them in a firm yet intelligent manner. If he needed to, he could defend himself, but thanks to John, Todd, Chris, & everyone else at LEK, he is confident & intelligent enough to know there is more than one way to communicate with people. Watching him learn and grow helped plant a desire in me to learn these same things. I am now a proud member of LEK. Thanks for all that you do!

I wanted to study martial arts since I was a kid. Wouldnt it be cool if I could be a female version of Bruce Lee, I thought. As an adult, I joined a Tae Kwon Do class taught in my apartment complex. Frequent, expensive belt tests and an unmotivated lead instructor made me lose interest. A couple of years later, I started training with Sifu John Staab at Leading Edge Kickboxing and Martial Arts. His knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm for martial arts and teaching has changed my life. 6 years later, Im still as motivated about martial arts as I was growing up; at 40, Im in the best shape of my life - and am also one of the instructors. This school has so much to offer, whether youre interested in martial arts, fitness, or self-defense. Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Jeet Kun Do, cardio classes, kids classes, seminars, personal trainers - everything you and/or your family needs to learn martial arts, defend themselves or lose a few pounds can be found at this school. Caring, passionate instructors and friendly students help create a great environment for all ages and fitness levels. Come in, watch for a few minutes and youll see exactly what Im talking about.

Got caught up in my job and managed to get out of shape in a hurry. I wanted to find a kickboxing class that could fit around my work schedule and found Leading Edge. I have done martial arts in the past and found that many schools focus too much on cardio or too much on technique but Leading Edge is the perfect balance of both. The instructors are great and teach the fine points of kickboxing, unlike other places that just teach you how to hit things. The instructors also are great at keeping everyone motivate and do an incredible job at getting everyone to push to their limit regardless of their size, shape, or ability. In terms of the environment, there are all kinds of people there, competitive fighters, busy career professionals, seniors, tall, short, big, small, moms, dads, it is truly a unique enviroment where everyone is enabled to reach their maximium potential and meet their goals. Definitely recommend anyone looking to get in shape, learn how to defend themselves, or become a competive kickboxer, check out Leading Edge.
