Emerson feels more like a barbershop rather than a salon--so I would not recommend the place to women, but men might like it. Most of the employees seem like they are not happy to be there and to have to deal with customers. They almost seem bitter about having to work in a salon. Its strange. . . . Darcy took a long time to listen to me about my hair and gave me options, which was nice. Since their pricing for all over color (color correction) is very odd and insanely expensive, I went for highlights. I have had a lot of mediocre haircuts in my life, but this was the first time I actually had a bad haircut (and why I am writing a review, which I have never done before). One side looked totally different from the other side--one flipped under and smooth, while the other was straight and very choppy. In her defense, I did not say anything while I was at the salon because I was honestly just so shocked I didnt know what to say and I think to fix it she would have had to start over completely on my cut and I had already been at the salon for probably at least 3 hours. Once I got home, I noticed that my hair was really unevenly cut. The choppy side had one really long piece in front, I guess so that it was even with the other side. Then there were other areas of inexplicably longer hair, for instance portions of the hair on the back of my neck were longer than the rest! While she was cutting, it seemed like she was just chopping at my hair, rather than using precision. To top it all off, she did not style my hair at all! She used the hair dryer until my hair was just barely dry and that was it, no product, no flat iron, nothing. It looked worse than when I style it myself. Even my bangs were not straight! Given the years of experience that she claims to have, I suspect that Darcy actually has the skills to do at least a simple haircut, but for whatever reason she was just being lazy with me. I could tell that she knew that my hair looked terrible, but she didnt really seem to care. Im sure if I had gone back and shown her my cut and how uneven it was, that she would have fixed it without hesitation, however, I am looking for a stylist that is really talented at haircuts and I do not think I am going to get that at Emerson Salon.

This review is for DArcy and I really want to say that I have never been SO DISAPPOINTED with my hair before this, that too after paying $76.70 (18% tip). As I had just shifted to Seattle so I booked whatever was available for my function. The minute I walked in, I felt like an UNWELCOME CUSTOMER. I wasnt even offered water or coffee, have never seen that in any salon and the weird part is that the lady whom Darcy attended right after me was offered both, so it was a clear message that I WAS NOT WELCOME THERE. I was around 7 minutes late and the appointment for hair styling was for an hour but the whole time she made me feel like an UNIMPORTANT AND INFERIOR customer. I had already told her over the phone the previous day, when I was making the appointment, that I am not sure if I would wash my hair and come, but when I reached and told her that I need hair wash it was almost visible on her face that she didnt want to wash my hair. I really didnt expect that reaction when I am paying extra for hair wash. The WORST part was the blow dry. I had really really BAD HAIR FALL after the visit as she used the blow dry at such a super high temperature. I could almost feel my scalp burning. Even after I told her that its too hot, the only thing she had in reply was that "Ya, its hot", I mean really?? I guess if you tell anybody that its hot, the person will obviously understand that the temperature has to be reduced. I knew right then that my hair style is going to be a disaster. I had expected to get a really nice hair styling done after reading good reviews on Google and Yelp but my hair style was so AWFUL that my husband said, "I guess you paid to get a bad styling done". It was a total waste of my time and money as I had to open my hair completely and guess what, I was so upset that I didnt even attend the function. The thing which I hated the most was her BEHAVIOR towards me. I am never ever going to go back there. Really really disappointed. I guess she really does not want to have new customers, as I can see no other reason for such behavior.

I just wanted to update my review and let people know that I get complimented on my hair at least twice a week from total strangers who stop me on the street. Its all becuase of Lancers incredible work. I am a 40 something female who is experiencing the horror of slowly losing my hair (genetics). I called around to different salons in Seattle trying to find someone who could help me. One salon that specializes in hair loss told me I needed a $5000 hair piece. So I called Emerson and was told that Lancer would be happy to meet with me. I took in a photo of a girl with a faux hawk and asked Lancer if he could help me. Jesus Alla Buddha this guy is a miracle worker. I have had so many compliments from total strangers. Now just imagine what he can do for those of you with regular hair. So run, dont walk down to Emerson and get in Lancers chair like NOW!

I have been going to Emerson for almost a year now, and I cant express how happy I am to have a regular, reliable place where I can go to get my hair done! The staff is always helpful and delightful! Im always excited to make my next appointment, I feel like Im friends with all of the stylists there, even the ones who have never done my hair. Everyone there is well educated on current styles; what is more important is that they know how to listen and provide exceptional customer service while showcasing their talents on each customer - not just me. When I go to Emerson, I know that I am going to get the best treatment by some of the best stylists in the city. I am so happy that I take extra business cards to give to friends who are looking to try something new. Emerson is really a great place with some outstanding stylists!

I loved this salon for a year, I went to one stylist religiously, I dug the funky atmosphere and gender-neutral feel. I even brought my mom in when she came to town. I wasnt doing anything complicated, and coughed up $40 for simple trims between cuts because I was growing my hair out, but then my stylist left. I didnt get an email or a postcard, I didnt have any warning, and her name is STILL up on their website (including on the "book online" part of the page). When I stopped by to make an appointment they said shed left a month ago. They didnt even ask me what I was looking for, they just tried to reschedule me with the person my stylist "gave" all her clients to. I just... expected more.
