Lance and his crew are awesome, I had been going to these other shops, and they would charge outrageous costs on just clearing my codes. Yes I could have gone to the dealership, but I support local mechanics. I like working on my own car, but I still need help with computer updates. I would call Lance over the phone to get his opinion once in while, I generally do this to get an idea of the shop. Lance gave me direct answers, not the let me call you back type, where they dont call you back. I had been getting transmission failsafe issues where it doesnt kick down to first gear for months, I decided to take it to Lance, he told me the pros and cons. I explained I just needed him to look at it to make sure, and then I would do the fluid and pan change when I get a little time after his diagnosis. I left the car......, I was grinding my teeth the whole day hoping the tranny wasnt going to need to be replaced. I couldnt afford that, and I didnt want to buy into another used car. I love my car, as most people do. I get the call from Lance, that it looks like its going to be ok, but I needed to drive it some miles to be sure. K, that wasnt a problem, I had to goto Arizona and back, and I had to tow a trailer. I made it back, ;-). Transmission has not gone into failsafe mode, ....knocking on wood still. Lance has my confidence and trust at this point.

How am I to know if a used BMW is worth buying? I thought that I would take it to someone who could give it a thorough look-over and, like a qualified physician doing a physical, use the companys BMW expertise to tell me if the vehicle appeared to be mechanically sound. THEY DONT DO THAT AND "WOULD RECOMMEND THAT NO AUTO REPAIR SHOP DO PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTIONS." How can a car buyer know that any car is worth buying without someone knowledge putting it up on the rack and looking for subtle and not-so-subtle signs of abuse, neglect or an accident. How can someone with no mechanical background know that their $30,000 expenditure is for a car that appears to be in good working order? This company is afraid of getting sued by someone. If doctors (who know the most about humans, diseases and other problems common to man) took on this shops attitude, you wouldnt be able to get tested for any disease, have your high schooler get checked over before playing sports, or have a pregnant mother go for a pre-natal physical. The arrogant way this man spoke, only to hang up on me at the end, was disturbing.

Great place to have your head lamp replaced. I had my car towed there (BMW) and the owner (Lance) called me pissed off that it was blocking their driveway and he couldnt move it (as if that was my fault AAA put the car where they told them to). After going back and forth with the owner on the cars issues, he said it will be ready the following day. I called the following day and he was not in and the people that answered the phone had no idea what was going on with the car and Lance had decided to take the day off. They finally called me back and said NOTHING was done and I should have the car towed to BMW because they could not perform what they said. They essentially wasted my time promising work that they did not complete. If you want to be dependent on one guy and his mood to fix your car, use these guys. Otherwise, giving their pricing and crappy customer service... just go to the dealership and save yourself the pain.

Fantastic shop willing to go the extra mile. I was visiting seattle for the weekend from Calgary when my M3 started acting up, not being able to start. I received a few jumps and it seemed the battery was not holding power. Dropped off at Fat City early monday morning, they diagnosed the problem as a faulty alternator and gave aquote to replace it. at 330 pm, they called and informed me they will have it done by closing at 5: 30 pm. At 6 pm i received another call, turned out my battery had a dead cell and had to be replaced as well. Fat City worked extra late, till 7 pm, replaced the battery and alternator and stuck by their original quote. Because of their dedication i was able to make the 700 mile return trip to canada the next day and had minimal disturbance to my work schedule. I went to Fat City on a recommendation and will be willing to recommend them to anyone else, they were fantastic.

I own a 97 VW Jetta GLX, and if you own an older car, many shops will treat you like a second-class citizen. This isnt the case with Fat City. Lance and crew are always very friendly, helpful, and some of the staff are fluent in German, including Lance. (Try getting that at the dealership...) This is the only shop that I have ever been to where I have cracked jokes with the owner, who, aside from being a master mechanic, is also extremely personable. And, they are the only shop that washes a car properly. As I wrote, I own an older car, and who wants to spend the time to thoroughly wash a 97 Jetta when you have a turbo Porsche to attend to? Fat City.

This shop is run by "people!" Honestly, in an age where humans act like robots, places like Fat City stand out. This is the kind of shop that will give you straightforward advice while all the other shops are snobby or leave you hanging for minutes on hold. I once called for advice on how to do a spark plug job myself, and the service boss talked to me personally, gave me tips, and was courteous enough to point out potential tricks. This is a great shop! Dont be fooled cause its downtown. The dealership looks like a ship o fools compared to this place! 5 stars!!!!!

Overall I feel I had a decent experience at Fat City. Customer service was great. My car was ready on time. No hidden surprises when I came to pay my bill. Charges for labor were very, very reasonable. Good stuff all in all. I was somewhat disappointment for the quoted price they gave on parts, five minutes on the internet showed they were very inflated. Even against dealer prices. That said I would still recommend them and fully intend on taking my car there the next time it needs serviced. Their obvious competence makes the parts surcharge well worth it.
