I found Joey online and saw great reviews, so I went in. I am just in the process of relocating to the Seattle area and didnt really need my hair done just yet. But was excited to see what Joey could do. At the time, I really liked my hair. It had finally grown to the length I liked (my hair grows very slowly) and the color/highlighting was good. Joey was a good listener and very likable person. I told him I just wanted a little shaping done, a bit of a trim. We also would do a touch-up on my highlights. As he was cutting my hair, he asked permission to take a little heaviness off the ends (he was aware that I wanted to preserve my length). I trusted him and said "OK." Watching him, I noticed rather sizable chunks of hair falling off the scissors. I reminded him I didnt want too much taken off and he assured me these were just layers and that my length would be preserved. I also became aware he was just staying on one side of my head. When I mentioned this to him, he waved it off, saying he had indeed gone to the other side. After finishing up, I couldnt really tell how much I liked (or didnt) my hair since he fixed it differently than I normally do (which was fine). But when I began to work with it, I saw just what hed done. Hed chopped the heck out of my hair. It was short on one side, barely touched on the other. Honestly, it was the worst haircut Ive ever had. I was devastated. Couldnt believe it. Now, nearly 6-months later, my hair is growing out a bit and is just beginning to look good again. I have a few months more before I get to where I was when I first walked into Joeys salon. He is a nice man and did do a good job on my color, but theres no way Id ever go back. Not after the disastrous hair cut he gave me.

I understand it is strange to make recommendations for males to get hair cuts at salons as there is a variety of methods by which we cut our hair. If you do not cut your hair yourself (as I used to), get cheap or free haircuts (as an undergrad, I got free (bad) haircuts at the beauty school near campus), and are interested in getting a nice cut and styling advice, I strongly recommend going to Joey. I rationalize paying salon prices and getting salon quality cuts due to my infrequency in getting cuts (it had been 8 or 9 months since my last cut prior to Joey). Since I have been getting salon quality cuts, Joey was by far the best cut and the best overall experience. I actually took him up on his guarantee on his cuts. When I came in for my first cut, my hair was long (Tom Petty like as Joey called it) and I had only the vaguest idea of what I wanted. This is typical of my salon visits and I typically end up with a pretty standard short style, which looks fine. Joey, however, took initiative and left me with a medium short artistic style. It looked great as he styled it but didnt fit my personal level of effort in styling. I went back to get trimmed up at no additional cost. Joey again took initiative with my vague and poor feedback and I ended up with a style I love. It is a little different than what I am used to and will grow out looking good. Definitely recommend to men who seek salons for hair cuts or for men with long hair who want to try a shorter style. Joey doesnt hesitate to get down to work, if you arent 100% satisfied with the result, he will fine tune it to your desire.

Found this place almost a year ago and I have come back 3 times - I am mixed with Mexican, white and black, and have super thick poofy curly red hair. I had my first (and all the following) appointment with Annie, who is literally the 1st stylist Ive completely trusted with my hair. She took probably a foot off of my hair and I have an A line bob type cut now. She is the one who recommended certain things because of the way my face is shaped and I have been SO FREAKING PLEASED with her work! She has only worked there for like 6 months and already has me and a few others as faithful clients. Not to mention, she is funny as all hell and super easy to work with. About Hair By Joey itself - they send helpful reminders when it is time for a new cut, and gently ask you for feedback every time you have an appointment. They are very kind, small, and have a well run business. Ive never not been able to schedule an appointment, same week, on the weekends. They are open late (9) sometimes as well. In the waiting room is a serious massage chair, so that is also a plus. Its a small, relaxing environment on the edge of Mapleleaf in Seattle. Couldnt recommend more!

Its been about a week since my cut and I wanted to wait to write my review because the truest test of a haircut comes after you wash it a few times and style it yourself. I can honestly say that Joey didnt *just* cut my hair - he transformed it!! As a busy mom of two little boys, I do not have the time or energy to put a lot of thought into my hair every morning. But I have tons of hair so without spending an hour straightening it, its awful and poofy and ends up in a ponytail. He thinned my hair and cut in in a way that I can literally roll out of bed, run my fingers through it and it looks absolutely gorgeous. I can easily wear it curly or straight and the cut flatters both styles. This is seriously one of the best haircuts I have ever received and Joey has just made himself a faithful new client. Our hair is one of our best accessories and having a cut that works for your lifestyle and hair type is so important. Joey did exactly what I wanted and even took it a step further to take my hair to a different level of fun with no fuss. God bless you, Joey. My hair makes me feel like the hot mama that I am!!

I am absolutely overjoyed with my experience at Hair by Joey. His studio is charming. It has a genuine serenity to it. I felt completely relaxed during my visit there. The atmosphere in the studio is very pleasant, but thats not what makes this place one of a kind. Its the stylist. Joey is very perceptive to your wishes. I had a very unique situation and walked into his studio completely overwhelmed. After years of struggling with a major hair loss disorder, I was finally healed and ready for my "first" haircut in over 15 years. Despite my overwhelming anxiety, Joey made me feel completely comfortable. He really tuned into what I wanted and brought our visions together into a totally rocking hairstyle. Joey is an exceptional listener and really strives to create something that you are going to be completely thrilled with. I walked out of his salon with new found poise. I give him and his salon my utmost recommendations. I will most definitely be coming back. :) Thank you, Joey!

Joey is very accommodating and gracious. I live what is usually a 1 1/2 hr drive south of Seattle, but this particular day was 2 1/2 + hours, and I was not able to make my appointment. I called on the way to let him know and he was very gracious and offered another appointment slot later that afternoon. I gratefully took him up on it and I wasnt disappointed. I have very fine, curly/wavy hair that I kept long and didnt cut very often because its frustrating when it ends up scraggly or as a "triangle head". I was looking for a stylist who could cut a more modern and flattering style for my hair and face, and Joey was it! His salon is relaxing, his tea is delicious, and his skills are wonderful. I absolutely LOVE my new haircut, it was everything I had asked for and more: stylish, easy to care for, and flattering for my hair and face. I full-heartedly recommend Joey for anyone who is looking for a great cut, especially for curly/wavy hair. Let me tell you, hes worth the 2+ hr drive!
