I had a negative experience at Kelly Automotive. After 14 days my vehicle ran worse than before I took it there. Techs continued to say it was fine. They claimed to have adjusted a part my truck doesnt have. Finally after 18 days I got it back the way it should have been. I took my all original, restored, 1989 Chevrolet Suburban (3/4 ton, 7.4 L) into Kelly Automotive for a trip check. At the end of the second day, Friday, I was presented with a list of repairs that they wanted to do but they didn’t have prices for any of it. Take a vehicle to a mechanic to find problems and he will find problems. One of the items was head gaskets that were leaking coolant. I had to worry all weekend how much the repairs were going to cost me. Finally late in the morning on Tuesday I was given prices. All I could afford was $1900 to have my head gaskets replaced. The other items were not critical. I needed my truck in 4 days and Dale said the repair would be completed in that time. I had them start the work. Their chosen machine shop couldnt return parts taken to them until the Friday I needed my car. Kelly couldn’t complete the repair that day. I missed my trip. I didnt get my truck until 6 days later. The cost crept up to almost $2500. I did request a new serpentine belt. But they replaced a working distributor. My truck ran worse after Kelly Automotive worked on it than before. I was told it was driven "10 miles" after the repair was completed and that it "ran good". When I first tried to start it, it stalled. It never did that before. It ran poorly on my second try and the belt squealed. I circled back around but it seemed to clear up so I decided to take it home to try it again cold. Later that night I went for a drive. The belt squealed and it didn’t run right. The truck ran rough at times, surged at times and the "Service Engine Soon” light lit twice all within 5 miles. After shutting it off to pump some gas in it, it didnt start like usual. The starter did not struggle to turn it over but the engine was slow to ignite. It had always started very easily warm. I was less comfortable taking it on a road trip after Kelly Automotive worked on it. On the way to take it back that night the "Service Engine Soon” light lit a third time. The next day, Friday, Dale said two of their techs test drove it and it ran fine. The technicians couldnt find anything wrong with it. I asked them to read the error codes (OBD1) generated when "Service Engine Soon” light lit but Dale told me that it wasnt possible. I replied that I had done it myself but he argued with me insisting that my truck is too old. At one point Dale said my carburetor was adjusted. My truck is TBI fuel injected, no carburetor. I am not as ignorant about my vehicle as he wanted me to be. I continued to reiterate that there was a problem so Dale offered to drive it himself. After 15 minutes he called me back and admitted that it didnt run right. So he put his "best guy" on it. Eventually Dale reported that the ignition timing was incorrectly set and error codes WERE read out of it for a lean condition. They kept my Suburban for another weekend getting it back to me, again, Monday afternoon finally running well. Dale also stated that older vehicles are more difficult to work on. I do not believe that. But if it is true, is it because older vehicles require technicians to think? I wonder if somebody learned how to properly use a timing light after working on my truck.

My 4 stars is simply out if respect for Kelly that this could simply be a misunderstanding, however..... Please read: Dropped off my 2012 Chevy HD for routine oil change and alignment. They kept my truck all day and told me around 1:30 I had broken steering struts and bushings; itll be $600 plus dollars to fix. I told them them no thanks and they still kept my truck till closing and they had it in their bey all day with hood up. The next day at work my gear cable broke on my 4.5 yr old truck so my gear shifter would not work. Not sure what happened, but Im never going back there. I am a small company and this is my main truck, it is now sitting in my driveway undrivable: update: called Mobile Car Doctors next day and John came out and fixed my shifter cable by installing a new one, and inspected my steering struts and bushings and said they were perfectly fine, however that was on his back in my driveway and not elevated to really take a good look. I am just glad my truck is back on the road. I wish the best for Kellys automotive.

I took My Honda to them and they charged me 375.00 for part that costs 160.00 I do not mind a 40 or maybe even 50 per cent mark up but 135% mark up. I asked them why the mark up is so high they said "We have to charge enough to stay in business" I am thinking to myself wow so there is a set price per every car that comes through there. They obviously will run the price up on all the seemingly small jobs "just to stay in business". Additionally, they found a host of other supposed problems with my car that needed fixing. Some of the things they suggested needed done but others were bogus. In short, there are no small jobs at Kelly Automotive. I would imagine if you went in for an oil change you are going to come out with a new transmission. I would take my car there again but only to get a price on a major repair. They did offer me a free drink and a nice place to relax while waiting and they were friendly.

After another repair shop promised me to service my brakes and I drove there only to find that they lied, I was panicked and driving from place to place at 2:30 on a Friday trying to find someone to get my breaks fixed before having to go out of town. Kelly Automotive not only bent over backwards to accommodate me, they fixed my breaks in less then 2 hours and had me out the door by the time they closed. They were so friendly and what they charged was less then what was estimated at other places. I will never bring my car anywhere else! There are the best of the best!

We love Kellys we have been to both their Mesa and Gilbert offices. We always leave Kellys feeling like we were listened to and our needs were met. They are the most honest straight forward mechanics I have ever met. Kellys does a good job of explaining what needs to be fixed on our vehicle then allowing us to make the final decisions. Jeff even called me a week after our car was fixed to see how everything was doing! My vehicle was shaking and making a loud whining noise, it is now so quiet and smooth it feels like a new car! Thank you Kellys Automotive.

I really enjoy working with Dale, he is super supportive and very caring! I have not worked with too many employees but those that I have spoken to have been very friendly and welcoming. I trust Kelly Automotive because of this staff and how well they are with my vehicle. I have been taken advantage of from other shops so many times and I am very thankful to have found Kelly Automotive and appreciate how comfortable Dale and his coworkers have made feel about my decision to make Kelly Automotive my primary place for my automotive needs!
