I was nervous the first time I went, didnt know what to expect; but the prices are so reasonable plus I had a coupon for an "all over color", which I really needed, so I figured Id give it a try (I figured I could always get it "fixed" somewhere else, right?). I was nervous for nothing! Was impressed right away by the "look" of the place, it looks and has the feel of a high-end salon. A student, obviously, does the work; but an Instructor is always right by and very "hands-on", providing guidance and advice if needed, checking in with the customer to make sure they are happy, etc. When it was done, I was happy with the "all-over-color", but the Instructor pointed out something I hadnt even noticed (very minor), and offered to fix it right away; I declined, didnt see the need. I was impressed again the next day when someone from Avalon called to check in with me (when has any other Salon Ive gone to done that!?); I decided to mention the slight issue with the color, and was told the work was guaranteed and I could come in within (I think it was one whole week), and theyd fix whatever, for free. The issue was so minor, I once again declined. I was impressed enough with the place and the work and the prices to make a second appointment several weeks later, even without a coupon. This time the student I got was GLEN GAUNA, I mention him by name because he was very good and I am now requesting that he be my stylist whenever I go in. Once again, the Instructor (a different one this time) was very "present" and hands-on, but Glen didnt really need any advice or help, he knew exactly what he was doing. He gave me highlights which provided a very nice dimension to the all-over color I had gotten several weeks before. I was VERY pleased with the end result, as pleased as I have ever been with an expensive high-end salon (more pleased than some I have been to, thats for sure). Im so glad I gave Avalon a try -- you cant beat the prices (thats for sure), but even if money isnt an issue, the quality of the work of the stylists, as well as the professionalism and great customer service of Avalon overall, make AVALON my salon of choice -- and Glen Gauna my stylist of choice.

I am currently going through Avalons esthetician program. I am posting anonymously for fear of retaliation from the school, like expulsion or some other form of mistreatment. I joined with a happy heart ready to learn and eventually master a trade that I have a passion for. I, and the rest of my fellow classmates, am finding that to be a challenge with what Avalon is offering us. After being there for 2 months and dealing with a shortage of the supplies (not just esthe supplies, there was a few days where we used tissues instead of toilet paper) we decided to peacefully put together a list of what we needed and tried presenting it to the owners. We were told we were "harassing" them and a week later they fired our instructor Jen Matuga, a passionate instructor with 25 years of experience as an esthetician who has practiced all over the world. We have had 4 different instructors in the two months weve been there when we were only supposed to have two. We are currently being taught by a cosmetologist with zero experience as an esthetician and once they are replaced we will be on our 5th teacher. I cannot help but feel as if the school is punishing us for taking a stand and asking for the supplies we have paid for with our 10k tutition fee. Myself and all the other students are being taken advantage of and they are wishing for us to remain silent and let them treat us badly while they make money from our tutition and the services we perform on the public. If you have come to this page to read reviews because you are considering enrolling in an esthetics course I hope that you find a different school that is perfect for you. Not only am I horribly dissatisfied with my experience but I fear that as this news gets out that future potential employers will not take my education seriously, that they will assume that my school will reflect upon my skill level. For now I can only hope that somehow Avalon will attempt to amend their mistakes.

The director has refused to return my daughter and Is phone calls, some of the students tend to bully other students and its not handled very well as far as consequences to the bully. The instructors dont always help the student with learnin in the classroom. Im statin nothin but the facts above cus my daughter was a student at this particular schl. Along with my mom (whos my grandma) started goin to this Avalon cus she moved and just last week she went to have her hair permed. And Bcus the instructor felt that it was more important for around and show off his tattoo and discuss which tattoo hes gettin nxt instead of helpin the student who said she was not all familiar with perms, my moms hair got fried as well as the chemicals burned her. The salon did nothin, no refund no creams to help with the burns. It was sad enough the instructor blamed the student when yet the instructor took off and left her by herself after she said Im not all familiar perms. And Bcus of the burn she had 2 go to her Dr and prescription medications az well as went back to her old hair stylist who had to cut some of her which was the fried part in order to do a wash and set (which is wash and put in curlers).. she even told Avalon she isnt comin back cus she cant trust them and still didnt refund her 4 her bin burned by chemicals, hair damaged due to negligence per the instructor. the instructor even blamed it on the student and made her cry. My mom (whos my grandma) told the student it isnt your fault, its the instructor. The instructor said he cant just stand there and walk a student thru.

I went to avalon tuesday the 22, my appointment was at 2pm I got there at 1:30. I originally scheduled with Nydia but for some reason that was not put with her, they put me with Carmen who obviously had no idea what she was doing she continuously called the instructor over who was rude Mrs. Susan I believe is her name. The instructor cut half my hair because Carmen had no idea what she was doing, and then Carmen could not figure out how to do the same thing on the other side of my hair and she called Mrs Susan over but she told her to get another instructor to help so Carmen did and the other instructor didnt show carmen anything she just started hacking away at my hair and she about sliced open my cheek. I now have god awful uneven hair that looks nothing like the picture I showed them. And Mrs. Susan even signed off on it. It took 3.5 hrs to just cut my hair when it was already short. I was there from 1:30-till 4:00pm just to get a hair cut!!! And when I went to go pay I stood up there for 5min for the girl to stop chatting with a fellow girl from the school so I could pay and leave. Previously I was thinking about going to school there but not after Ive seen how they treat their customers it is ridiculous! I will never return there again and I will tell my friends against it as well.
