If you are reading this review because you want to start crossfiting or you need to find a new box let me give you a nickels worth of free advice: Crossfit Black Storm is the best gym in the valley. How would I know that? Easy, because in my three years of crossfitting I have dropped into over a dozen boxes in this area alone and Crossfit Black Storm impressed me the most. They have one of the biggest and nicest facilities I have ever seen. It’s new, clean, and filled with some of the best equipment money can buy. I’m talking: Rogue Ohio bars, rowers, aireyne bikes, jump ropes, competition plates, and even 2014 Crossfit Games kettlebells. Yes, Rich Froning or Camille Leblanc-Bazinet could have touched our kettlebells. The ceilings are tall so we have ropes to climb and we also have a nice 400m loop to run. The rig has an ample amount of pull up stations and rings so you should never have to wait to use them during a WOD (Workout Of the Day for you need people). The coaches here are amazing. Not only are they knowledgeable about all the movements, they have the ability to teach them. A lot of boxes have world class athletes coaching that can clean or snatch a ton but they can’t teach you how to do it. Here at Crossfit Black Storm our coaches are great athletes AND they can teach you the finer points of all the movements so you will do them safely and correctly. The programming here is, for a lack of a better word, awesome! It really is constantly varied functional movements done at high intensity. That might sound corny as that is Crossfit’s definition of ‘crossfit’ but it’s true. The programming is done with the fittest athlete in mind but it is all scalable and that is what you should be looking for. Finally, the community here at Crossfit Black Storm is second to none. Everyone is welcoming and nice and competitive. We don’t have cliques or groups; we just have a friendly and fun environment. It doesn’t matter if you are in shape or not, you will be welcomed here with open arms. I just started here a few weeks ago and my transition couldn’t have been easier. We really have a nice little community here that is missing just one thing… You! So please drop in and see what I’m talking about. I won’t even say, “I told you so” when you sign up.

When I first stepped into Crossfit Blackstorm, I had just moved back to Phoenix and was looking for a gym that would allow me to weightlift (as I am a weightlifter). I checked out a few boxes in the area, but most had a rigid come at a specific time and do our programming mentality, which wouldn’t work, for me. Then I walked into Blackstorm and it was a perfect match. The environment is everything you would want in a good gym: hard working individuals supporting each other, as they get stronger. The coaching staff is fantastic. They really care about the progress of the individuals and take their time to assure everyone scales appropriately to maximize the growth and positive impact of the programming. The gym contains the absolute best in equipment and Will and Erin constantly reinvest in the gym and upgrade/buy more equipment. They have great Crossfit programming, a weightlifting club, specialty yoga/mobility classes, and an in house PT clinic to help with any aches and pains and get you ready to set PR’s. If you are considering starting your strength/fitness journey or are looking to join a box in the Phoenix/Tempe area I can’t stress how great Blackstorm is. Give it a try and you will find a great community and a gym that’ll become a second home. I am incredibly lucky to have found Blackstorm and am thrilled to be a part of the community! Come on in!

My wife and I were in town for the weekend and needed a box to complete Open 17.3. I traded a few emails with Justin prior to showing up on Friday. He gave us a tour of the facility and pretty much opened everything up to our use. We did open gym on Friday afternoon then came back Saturday. My wife joined the 10:00 class while I warmed up for 17.3. I completed 17.3 afterwards with a few other members. The facility is fantastic and very clean. Two rooms provide lots of space and the equipment is top notch - all seems almost like new including competition style bumper plates and lots of rig space. My personal pullup bar preference is one with texture for grip... most of the bars on their rig are pretty smooth and dont have much texture - again, a personal preference item. The best part of the drop-in experience for us was the community. Ive dropped in to several boxes across the country and for the most part are welcomed but pretty much left alone. Not the case at Spark! We felt very welcome from beginning to end - very friendly and welcoming community. One extra benefit that we didnt expect... One of their coaches, Ryan Mattson, provided some excellent suggestions for local restaurants and coffee shops. This little extra was very much appreciated - thanks Ryan! Well be back any time were in the Phoenix area. Highly recommended!

When I first stepped into Crossfit Blackstorm the coaches and members made me feel comfortable and right at home. I was brand new to Crossfit when I joined the gym, and I was extremely impressed with the technical knowledge and professionalism that the Blackstorm coaches approached each member. If I was unfamiliar with a particular skill, the coaches were there to help guide me through the movements and work with me so that I could efficiently complete the workouts. They helped me "scale" each workout appropriately so that I was both learning the movements and building a better cardiovascular engine. Even now, as a more experienced member, I am constantly learning and soaking up as much information from the coaches as I can. The gym contains the absolute best in gymnastics and weightlifting equipment. The owners have made new gym equipment and upkeep a top priority. Every member of Blackstorm will attest to the top notch equipment and the gym owners commitment to facility maintenance. If you are considering joining any Crossfit gyms in the Tempe/Phoenix area, I cant stress enough how great Blackstorm is. Give it a try and you will find a home. I am incredibly lucky to have found Blackstorm.

So your a gym bro, Doing super sets, getting that pump on, making gainz, and suddenly your hear people talk about something called crossfit. When all of a sudden you hear bad things like your form will be messed up, coaching is lame, you will loose your gainz. Well your wrong. ,A friend of mine/ current member recommended me this gym since I was moving from Yuma to Phoenix. So I did the regular drop in, and found this place to be amazing, The Coaches are great, they teach you how to perfom lifts, flips and tricks Very safely and effeciantly, if you come out hurt, its mostly your fault (I know this by experience). Being a so called small guy I put on muscle and make drastic improvements on things like, Bench press, Back squat, Deadlift, and shoulder presses. The crossfit community is great, going in there not knowing anyone, people are very welcoming, They are all easy going human beings that you would like to hang out after words, and actually socialize, you meet people from all over the place, and different backgrounds, I can say I have made some good friends here. so if your still a skeptic, come try is on a saturday partner workout, its always fun and FREE.
