Been training here for over a year now and i must say that I love this academy! A year ago, I felt overweight and bored with regular weight lifting at the gym, so I decided to check this place out! I tried out a kickboxing and a jiu jitsu class and quickly realized that i was wayyy out of shape! So i joined so i could lose weight. After a week of training, i fell in love with bjj and took the classes more seriously. My main goal was to lose weight but I quickly found myself training to compete in tournaments! I started in Sept. 09 weighing around 180 pounds and got as low as 147 pounds for a tournament with proper diet and conditioning. Im now 160 and have pretty good endurance. Besides kickboxing and bjj, the coaches also have a legit conditioning program! Lots of varieties! Sometimes, there would be a circuit consisted of Tire flips, kettlebell swins, burpees, pushups, etc.... I highly recommend this place! ps. Dont be intimidated if youre a beginner. We are all friendly and there are several first timers that stop by at the gym every week =] AND TO REFER to Patricks comment, I think having different instructors have benefited myself and the other members because we get to know different practitioners perspective and styles, thus exposing you to an array of techniques

Trained there for a couple years and loved it! The school caters to both competitors and non-competitors. If you want to compete and learn to be the best, this school will push your limits and help you succeed! Look on their website and youll see how many successful competitors theyve trained. If you want to just get fit and enjoy BJJ or kickboxing, theyll welcome you as well! I didnt compete much, but I always enjoyed training the with the people at Selva BJJ. One of the best parts of the gym is definitely the people. Theyve built up a pretty nice community where everyone knows everyone. The belt promotion events also bring together the other affiliated schools under BJJ Revolution. That sense of community and family will definitely keep you coming back. So, if youre considering BJJ for either competition, self-defense, or fitness, SELVA is the place to go in the San Gabriel area!!

After spending some time here, I can safely say that this place is an excellent gym to learn either Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai properly. If your a beginner or out of shape, i recommend the fundamentals classes. No matter what fitness level you are at, it is a great workout depending on how hard you push yourself. Sparring is, mostly, only done in the gold team class. This class you have to be invited to, by taking enough fundamental classes, or you have proof that you have prior experience in the art. At the end of every month there is an exam based on the techniques that were being taught for belt stripes or a final prerequisite for admission to a belt promotion test. It is a family friendly environment as many children take classes before the adult classes begin. The people are very friendly and try to help you out as you learn. I definitely recommend Selva BJJ.

Ive been training here for over 4 years and havent looked back. I started brand spanking new as a white belt in jiu jitsu and through my consistency and coaching here at Selva I am currently a purple belt and competing. This facility is worth every penny, they give you literature on what it takes and the type of training needed to become a black belt in jiu jitsu as well as to compete at a high level. I had no martial arts prior to my jiu jitsu career except for wrestling. The instructors spoke to my style and work ethic which gave me the opportunity to be a 2x IBBJF national champ in jiu jitsu. They also offer MMA, Muay Thai and Womens Only Boot Camp. I Can speak on behalf of the womens only boot camp I did it for 60 days and lost 15 lbs, it gave me the discipline to be able to loose the weight and compete in BJJ.

I have been training here for just over 2 years and the experience has been great. I understand there are many different gyms out there with different styles of training that I have read about but the way Selva is run seems to be pretty effective. The way the gym was run compared to now is totally different and is able to cater to both beginners and veterans. Workouts are tough but it really depends on how hard you push yourself. There may be times where it can be a little hectic around the gym when competition seasons start but you can bet on the gym getting right back on track as soon as its over.

I signed up for a month, hoping to learn Jiu Jitsu. There are different instructors everyday teaching the class for bjj so there is no "consistent" flow from previous learned techniques. - one instructor shows one bjj move, and the next day another instructor shows another bjj move. Very confusing, cant connect one move to another. (How does that goes with what was taught yesterday?) - For the people that have previous bjj experience, they benefit. I felt the instructors try to help the people who had more bjj experience. But for the beginners..... good luck. The class was a waste of money.

Awesome Experience at Selva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) - Jason and his staff provide expert instruction, great customer service and top notch facilities. I enrolled my son in his Anti-Bully Program and it changed his life. My wife is in the Boxing and Fitness Bootcamp, she absolutely loves both classes. I trained in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) program for Self Defense and Weight-Loss - Five Stars for Selva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Kevin

This place is shady, they say money back guaranty within 90 days, but not true they still have not refunded my money, I canceled on Jan 8, they said I will be refunded in 4-6 weeks, well its been three months and still no refund I call to ask why they said sorry you will get it in 1-2 days that was almost a week ago and still nothing. I do not recommend giving these people your money

Selva Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the wonderful culture for kids, teens and adults to learn effective martial arts and reach personal goals. Once you travel the country and see what is out there, you will only begin to realize what is going on at this academy. I recommend Selva Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to you, your family and friends. My best, "little" Tony Pacenski

Before you decide to give this place a try, please take 5 minutes to visit the Los Angeles Better Business Bureau website and read all the complaints filed against this business. I am posting this as a warning to everyone as I and a number of my peers were shamelessly cheated out of our hard-earned money by this "school".

Ive been training here twice a week since the summer of 2010. Great coaches for both the adult and kids program. My 7 year old son is in the tiny tigers program and goes 3 times a week. When I started I weighed 210lbs now I walk around 165lbs. Cant say enough good things about the academy.

I have been an active member for over two years at Selva BJJ. I can honestly say that since joining, my health and overall life has improved. I have lost over 40 pounds and am no longer pre-diabetic. Selva BJJ has an amazing coaching staff and awesome teammates.
