Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech is the best shop I’ve encountered and I have lived in five states. Not only are the repairs completed timely and correct the first time but Kevin and his staff are honest, friendly and personable, taking the time to provide additional information, recommendations, and explanations. Until recently, I had a problematic Isuzu Trooper that Kevin helped keep on the road for an additional 7 years longer than I thought possible. Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech has always correctly diagnosed my vehicle issues and repaired the problem correctly the first time, which, I have learned, doesn’t happen at every repair shop. My experience with Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech began in 2009 when my 1999 Isuzu Trooper with 116k miles had undergone an engine replacement at another shop a year earlier. The vehicle was just not running correctly and after trying to work with the owner of the engine replacement shop for over a year, I was frustrated that my vehicle could not go faster than 35mph over the Dublin grade. I was at Keith’s Transmission for an unrelated issue when Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech was recommended to me for my engine issue. After over a year of engine issues and monthly trips to the engine replacement shop which included a trip to the dealership’s, Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech research problems with the type of engine I had and quickly diagnosed the replacement engine was not timed correctly. I returned to the engine shop where I purchased the engine and provided Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech’s assessment. The engine shop refused to take the assessment under advisement and would not perform the repair. I returned to Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech and had them complete the timing to the replacement engine and the vehicle ran perfectly. Using Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech’s paperwork, I sued the engine shop and won. After receiving such excellent service, I used Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech exclusively for all my vehicle needs from oil changes to tire rotations. I had other repairs here including brakes, a fuel pump and starter replacement. All repairs lasted the life of the vehicle. In 2011 when I moved to Virginia, I decided to drive the Trooper across the county and brought the vehicle to Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech for an assessment and service before the 2,900 mile drive. Not only did the Trooper make it to Virginia but it lasted until Dec. 23, 2016 when the exhaust system detached from the engine after an 850 mile trip from Seattle to Hayward. The Trooper broke down 30 miles from Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech so that’s where I had it towed to for repairs. Kevin inspected the vehicle and after finding additional issues that could become costly, potential repairs soon, recommended that I not do the exhaust system fabrication repair, and instead, retire the vehicle. I recently purchased a newer, used vehicle. I currently live in Seattle and drive down to California to visit family about twice a year. I will continue to use Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech as my primary mechanic and coordinate my maintenance and repairs around my visits to Castro Valley. I’m the daughter of an auto mechanic and I highly recommend Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech for any small or large repairs.

My 15+ years of experience with "Kevin Hinkley Auto Tech" " in Castro Valley (affectionately called Hinkleys) is that they are the very BEST!!! They are a family run shop that began over a generation ago. In addition, the staff appear to one big highly skilled family. I am very, very happy to be a customer of Kevins because: Older women are often easy targets for service companies . Since I headed the advice of co-workers and took my car to Kevin, Ive been treated like a valued customer with the utmost respect and kindness. Since I live locally, a member of the staff has picked me up when I needed a ride. The workmanship is unsurpassed, bar none. No one has worked on my car since I bought it new in 2005 and it has never let me down. The charges are clearly explained and reasonable. The atmosphere is friendly but professional.
