I’ve only been a member of CrossFit Newport Mesa for 19 days, so roughly 2.5 weeks, and I think it’s very telling of what kind of place CFNM is if I can already see a future here for me as both a member and a friend. I’ve never joined something with so little hesitancy nor have I ever experienced such a smooth and warm welcoming. I’ve already made a few friends and have had the chance to get acquainted with the majority of the current members. As someone who’s rather quiet and has had rough experiences meeting new people, I’m still amazed with how well the initial “get to know each other” phase has gone. At CFNM, if you’re willing to open yourself up and make new friends, they’re just as willing to return the gesture. If you truly do struggle with doing so, Carter (coach and owner) is always there to personally introduce you to everyone or have everyone introduce themselves altogether. It’s nearly impossible to walk out of your first class without meeting at least 10 new people. During my first 3 days at CFNM, I spent a lot of time just trying to memorize the 50 or so names thrown my way. Regarding the coaches: there’s no need to worry about not finding a right fit for your training style. In 19 days, I’ve already had the opportunity to meet and train under several different coaches. There’s Carter, Ryan, Andy, Priscilla, Mark, Brandon, Justin, Erick, and Nate - perhaps others I have yet to even meet. Each coach has stood out to me in different but always positive ways, some more outspoken and easygoing than others, some more strict and serious than others, but all of them always put your safety first and push you to achieve more than you think you can in every single workout. It often feels like they have more faith in your abilities than you do yourself and when you prove them right, that’s the one time in life where it doesn’t suck to be wrong. They all want the best for you while you seek to be the best version of yourself. Not everyone at CFNM is here for the same reasons, but regardless of our individual reasons, we all give our all in every workout—coaches included—and that’s the kind of atmosphere and people you want to be around no matter where on your fitness journey you are.

You are trying to find a new cross fit gym to go to, or else you wouldn’t be reading these reviews. You might be worried that the gym is full of meatheads and crossfit addicts that talk about crossfit more than vegans talk about salad. This might have you wondering, “can I walk in there and not be intimidated?” You may also be wondering, “how loud will they be cranking death metal while doing 100lb dumbbell curls”? But get this, 1) this place is super welcoming and the members are real friendly and super social. This one time last week, someone threw out an obscure Billy Madison reference during the warm up, so there’s that. 2) there aren’t really any of the meathead types in there, and the gym has people of all shapes, sizes, ages, abilities, etc. 3) The music is played at an appropriate level, and most of the time, it’s the exact opposite of death metal. Not like Vivaldi or Beethoven or something like that. But more typically, pop-punk, 90s rap, and depending on who coaching, unfortunately some Katy Perry from time to time. The look on peoples’ faces when they are walking to the sushi restaurant next door and they pass by during pull ups or something like that with Teenage Dream bumping through the speakers can be entertaining. Come check the place out, the most you have to lose is an hour of your time.

If you are looking for a Crossfit gym in the Orange County area, then you have to give Crossfit Newport Mesa (CFNM) a try. I love their programming as they offer many different (scaled) versions of the workout of the day (WOD), so you don’t have to feel overwhelmed or confused if you are uncomfortable with some of the movements and/or weight loads. The coaches are also very helpful and encouraging. If you are in the mood to go hard on a particular day, then they will motivate you and push you while always emphasizing the importance of proper form and safety. On the other hand, if you feel less than your usual self, then that’s okay too as you can still expect to receive support from both the coaches and other members. The sense of community at this box is very obvious from the minute you walk in, and the friendly competition and camaraderie adds to the overall experience. The facilities are also very clean and there is always ample parking in the parking lot regardless of the time of day. Overall, CFNM is one of the best fitness establishments that I have ever been a part of and I recommend it to Crossfit veterans and complete novices alike.

After years of generic exercise and weightlifting at regular gyms, I was bored and needed a change so I looked into Crossfit. Three years later I still have a blast every workout and there is no better gym. CrossFit Newport Mesa exceeded my expectations in every way possible. from what I thought a gym/workout could be. ALL the coaches and members are very welcoming and approachable. There is a sense of family at CrossFit Newport Mesa, which I have not found anywhere else... and I have tried a lot of things, bootcamps, Orange Theory, Yoda studios, various gyms and the like. If you would like to experience what it feels like to actually enjoy your workout, look forward to it and miss it when you dont go, plus see results, Crossfit Newport Mesa is the best place to go. We have social events and we all get together for fun adventures as well. It really improves your life in so many more ways than you will ever expect.

Okay real talk... Im a buck-twenty, small framed lady who was curious about CrossFit (never been). I thought my experience would be intimidating...possibly end with me eons behind the pack unable to breathe looking like a fool whilst being left behind by chiseled super humans... This was not the case at all. They make sure you got all the movements down and not in just the first time intro lesson but for weeks and weeks (they watch you closely and keep your body safe). Everyone (coaches and the members) are so nice! The classes and music are fun! And the facility is nice and clean, to boot! Im a full fledged member for five months now. Im more fit, looking sexy af and am having a fun time doing it! So if youre thinking about joining I totally encourage you too. Do it! ;-)

Great place to work out, i joined crossfit newport mesa about 10 months ago and i cant imagine going back to a regular gym. In this place, everyone is super friendly and supportive. They have social events on a regular basis. WODs are very well designed and owners do everything to make sure you get a good work out. i had no experience of lifting prior to this, but thanks to their professional approach, everything was super smooth and i fell very comfortable performing all the movement not to mention that my cardio has never been this great. i actually live in irvine and between my house and CFNM, there r 2 other crossfit boxes but the experience here is worth the drive. If you are planning to try crossfit, i highly recommend CFNM.
