truth be told - i am not a member of this gym. i went (despite the poor reviews below) because it is so close to where i live. i really, really wanted this gym to be good. but within a matter of seconds, i knew it wasnt a gym for me. the guy that took me on the tour was awful. not only was he uncomfortably aggressive, he also had absolutely no clue about physical fitness and was talking out of his @$$ thinking i wouldnt call him out. at one point, i asked him where people do squats (the squat rack was back in the corner obscured by lines of people waiting for weights), and he said the middle of the gym in an open area! i am not sure of he was confusing squat with cross fit people doing unweighted squats or people doing lunges or what, but i had to clarify that i meant squat rack to which he gave a puzzled look. incredible. then he also tried to explain what muscle group was used for every machine like i was a child. the thing that infuriated me most, though, was when he tried to compare caloric outputs to two different people at different work rates on two different machines. one of my pet peeves is when people take seriously the calorie counters on machines. no machine company has any incentive to give accurate measurement - we have seen lots of machines inflate the calorie calculator. why? people think they are burning more calories in a shorter time on a certain machine --> they use the machine more --> gym buys more of those machines --> machine company has incentive to fudge the numbers. a true measurement of calories is specific to an individual person at an individual exercise at a specific exertion level. so that said, the guy points to a 60 year old woman on one of the elliptical machines (these machines have some of the worst inflation in my experience). she was barely moving and wasnt sweating. the guy said that she was burning more calories per hour than a young male @ ~6:40 mile pace on the treadmill who was breathing through his mouth and sweating. ridiculous stupidity there. on to the actual gym review: i visited saturday morning because all of my old gyms were busiest at this time and i wanted to see how bad it would get. it was pretty crowded. cardio equipment was stuffed but there were no lines. the free weights had a lot of lines. the nautilus machine stuff was manageable. the creepiest part, though, was when i was leaving (i basically told the guy that this was the worst gym i had even been to and i would not be joining). this lady gets on the intercom to the fitness and urged everyone to keep working, that they are looking good, etc. i felt like i was in an orwellian dystopia. standing in line for weights while creepy voices tell you that you are looking good is not my idea of exercise. bottom line - even if this gym paid me, i would not go there.

Terrible example of a 24 hour fitness. Ive been going to the 24hr branch of gyms for a couple years now and I have to say this is by far the worst place for anyone serious about their workout. Cons- -The weight room is tiny and boxed away from everything else. -The machines are outdated -The water fountains handle in the weight room is broken -It gets so crowded in the weight room to the point where every single bench is full, their are people standing between the benches, people standing behind the benches waiting to work in. -During the busy hours the dumbbell rack is basically empty and scattered around the floor -The pulldown machine ropes hang too low for a guy above 6 foot to use a full rang of motion. -The weight stacks on their cable machine go about 50lb lighter than other 24s. -Some of the sinks in the locker room dont even turn on half the time. -The sauna they have is extremely small. Pros -DBs go up to 125 -Has a sauna and steam room in an Active. Overall if youre just looking for a place to casually walk about and get into working out, this place would be okay. But, if you are serious about your workout/fitness level chances are you need to go to a different gym.

I was visiting my friends in Irvine for few days. One evening that I was there we decided to go to the gym. My friends are members of 24 hour fitness. Once we entered the club, I have experienced the worst customer service experience of my life. I told them that I was visiting from Canada, but essentially am planning to move to Irvine and could potentially become a member since my friends already go there on regular basis. I was told that I can’t try out the gym unless I make an appointment which they could set up the following day, and since I am not going to sign up for now anyways, I should pay a drop in fee of $10.00 or else just sit on a couch near the front desk and wait until my friends are done with their workout. THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU TELL TO A NEW PERSON WHO IS COMING IN TO YOUR GYM FOR THE FIRST TIME. Let me try it out before I make my decision to sign up (even if it is few months later). Especially that I was there with two of my other friends, who are members and who are paying their monthly dues to the club. In frustration, we left of course. Similarly, I have entered LA Fitness club the next day and got my guest pass set up within few minutes.

The shower vent in the female locker room is CAKED with mold. Dont take my word for it, I uploaded a photo. The workout floor is fine (though I was surprised at crowded it was on a Tuesday between 8:00am and 10:00am. I would have thought people would be off to work by then.), the staff is friendly and helpful, the members are fine (not rude, not trying to hit on one another, considerate about wiping off equipment). But the womens locker room does not appear to be regularly cleaned. The image of the mold caked on the vent speaks for itself. I could not take photos of the actual womens locker room because there were, as you can imagine, other women in there in various states of undress. But the floor was nasty and the shower tile had stuff on it that I dont even want to know what it was. Working out here is fine. Changing and showering here, not so much. And you absolutely can not shower here if you have respiratory issues affected by mold. Ewww.

Im surprised of the bad reviews. Ive been going to this gym for years. The staff is great and many of them know me by name. I love that they have redone the place. I love the eliptical machines with the orange pedals, the best ones Ive used anywhere. Not only do they have a great variety of exercise machines but they have a wet and dry sauna and a hottub. This place is so busy and I suppose of few of the complainers that are reviewing dont like that it is that busy. There is a reason that this 24 Hour Fitness is so busy. Its because a lot of people love coming to this particular 24 Hour Fitness. This place is more than merely a gym, it is a community for many regulars to come congregate and exercise among familiar faces in comfort.
