I have been going to Essence Salon for many, many years since one of my best friends introduced me to Jennifer. Jennifer has always delivered fabulous haircuts! I am the type of person who does her hair maybe once or twice a year - the way Jennifer cuts my hair, it grows out beautifully and still looks great after a long time. I cannot recommend Jennifer enough for her amazing work. Since they remodeled the salon, the whole experience feels great. They always offer tea or water before your service. A couple years ago I decided to try getting a balayage. It didnt come out correctly, and Jennifer had me come in a couple more times to get it fixed. Since then, Jennifer has told me that her and her team have gone to many hair coloring workshops. One thing that Jennifer does is she always works on updating her skills by going for additional trainings. She and her team work hard and it shows - last year I came back to try a balayage again. I decided to try Brandon based on recommendation from Katie (manager) and he gave me the most amazing color and cut! Multi-dimensional and a gorgeous color - it has now been almost 5 months and people are still asking me where I had my hair done. As the color has been lightening up, some people who I see regularly even ask me if I just did my hair. New people are surprised to hear it was almost 5 months ago - they say it looks like it was done yesterday! To sum, I cant recommend Jennifer and Brandon enough. I trust both of them for any of my hair needs and I never hesitate to recommend them to my friends! Thank you guys!

The hype is real. I found this place via Yelp and even though I chose a less pricey stylist, Ive still been completely happy. I have short hair, so finding a good stylist is both incredibly important and sometimes difficult. I liked that they offer free consultations, so you can get a sense of the stylist and the salon. The first time I had a hair cut there, the stylist made it clear that I should check back and let her know if I was happy with it. Within a few days I went back to have it adjusted a little, and she happily fixed what wasnt quite right, at no charge. Another time, when we changed my style, she consulted with another, master, stylist to determine a technique for dealing with a tricky section of my hair. I like that she isnt afraid to ask someone else for ideas. Ive been happy with all my hair cuts. I appreciate that she doesnt give me grief about coloring my hair myself. Ill splurge on an expensive hair cut, but I cant justify spending over $200 on a cut and color every two months. I also like that you can book online, so you can see all the availability your preferred stylist has. Im usually able to get in with my stylist within a week of when my hair starts bothering me, even though she doesnt work Saturdays anymore. The only reason I deducted a star is because its so pricey.

The best two haircuts Ive ever had in my life have both come from here. For real. I got my hair cut with Laura, and she was great: She helped me explore a hipper hair cut but without going far from my comfort zone. Both times I got my hair cut here, my hair *lasted* looking good for months longer than normal. It stayed looking great as it grew out, which doesnt usually happen, and I think this is because of her expert cut. She also helped me dye my eyebrows a darker color (I have super blonde eyebrows) and it looks so much better than before -- but also natural (so no one has noticed I dyed my eyebrows.) :) She did a great job with this, which was something I was really nervous about! All the staff, Laura included, are super friendly, and I feel like were friends. Im really sad Im moving out of California because Ill miss my friends here! :(

Updated review: I decided to go back a third time since the customer service was excellent. Jennifer was my hair stylist. Shes very attentive and passionate about her work. I would recommend her. ------------------------ The customer service was nice, but the haircut was not. I expected an A-line haircut. Initially, I was satisfied. But after I left the salon, I received several comments that one side of my hair was noticeably longer. So I went in for a redo. The sides were trimmed (and for some reason more layers were added). However, the back was left untouched. When I pointed out that the back seemed longer, I was told that it was close enough. So now my haircut is choppy in the back with several strands that are annoyingly longer than the rest. I expect much better from a place I pay $150+.

I was lucky enough to have Laura as my stylist and I honestly couldnt praise her enough! Shes the perfect mixture of knowledgable professional meets non-judgemental and friendly. I wanted my already damaged hair to be taken from red to pastel blue , this was never going to be easy but she accepted the challenge eagerly. She explained to me before hand what she was going to do and how this would affect my hair . She paid close attention to everything I asked for, ( I feel like alot of other stylists just get the gist and then do what they want!) andeven suggested ways to improve what I had asked for I would honestly recomend Laura to everyone! Shes worth her weight in gold! Cant wait for the next trip to see her!

Rosanna Tang has been my hair stylist for over four years and I will now follow her the Essence Salon. How much do I value her work product? Enough that I travel from Portland Oregon to have her cut my hair. I do not trust anyone else for that since she cut my hair for the first time. She is a top tier stylist and is a bargain in terms of cost versus value. In addition to that, she has a fantastic personality. In Silicon Valley it is hard to find some one that has her decency and values. That coupled with her sweet smile and delicate voice will warm you heart as you get a great haircut. Love her, love her and others that we have referred to her

I just moved to the area and I take my hair very seriously. I did a lot of yelping before choosing a place and I am so glad I came to this place. I got a haircut from Natasha on a Sunday evening, which is a super convenient time for me. She gave me a really great head massage while washing my hair that I almost fell asleep. She did a great job at making sure she understood how I wanted my hair done and also made recommendations based on my hair texture. Natasha was careful not to cut off to much right away and took my bang trip in gradual steps. Overall I am very satisfied and my hair looks great. I will come back to this place.

Another fabulous haircut from Brandon! Im so happy to have found him and Essence Salon - since I moved to the Bay Area Ive had a hard time finding a stylist who was willing to actually give me what I wanted, not what they thought was best. Brandon is willing and able to be as drastic as I want to be; he really listens to my ideas and suggests improvements too. Perfect! Not to mention, the whole experience as Essence is a pleasure, from being able to book online, to the cool and clean environment. No pressure-selling of products at the counter, either. I cant recommend them highly enough.
