I rented a 10 X 10 unit and was told that they would pro rate the monthly rate if I did not end up needing the unit but a few days. I was told that if I did not rent right away that they might not anything available. I was also told that because I had renters insurance they would refund the cost when I brought a document showing this. About 5 or 6 days later I found a apartment and did not need storage., I had only 4 small boxes in the unit and something was leaking in on the floor, I think water from the rain. I want to the office and spoke to Bob, what a jerk. Bob told me he would be happy to pro rate the second month but, the first month would be charged in full no exceptions? I told him what do you mean this is not what you told both my wife and I. When I asked about the reimbursement for insurance I was told he would never say that. So I paid $188.65 for storage of 4 small boxes for 5 or 6 days, oh and a pad lock? Today I found out that Bob never closed out my account and is going to try to bill me again on the 24th. When I ask I am told that there is not supervisor, but I can call Salt Lake City ???? Do not rent from this place they will lie to you and try to take as much money as there can from you!!!! Now someone named Samantha is telling me they are mailing me a refund, I will believe it when I see it. I the mean time DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, THEY ARE DISHONEST!!! Now they do not want to return the money to my bank. I have been dealing with these guys for over a month. They act real concerned, even asking me to IM them so they can take care of it but nothing ever happens. ONCE AGAIN THESE EXTRA SPACE STORAGE PEOPLE ARE LAIRS AND THEFTS DO NOT USE THEM, USE A1 OR A REPUTABLE PLACE!!!!! They pray on you if you in your time of need. No heart, No class, No soul......

The unit itself is alright. Nothing special, but it holds my stuff so thats all I need. It is a long way from the elevators, though. Top floor is HOT in the summer. It would normally get them a 3 stars, and a 4th for being open till 10. But, customer service is LOUSY. They only let brand new customers use the truck. Apparently customers who have been with them for any length of time arent important. Now, thats disappointing, but heres the kicker: I called Extra Spaces 800 number to ask a customer service rep if they had any sort of policy on truck usage and mentioned the Sherman St. locations policy. He replied that was a way to bring new customers in. When I said, "Yes, but it seems like thats a poor policy for taking care of existing customers who have been renting with you" he replied "Im sorry you feel that way, have a good day, goodbye." Click. He hung up on me, didnt ask if I had any other questions/comments/concerns or anything. He also never offered a name. Keep in mind, Id been on the phone with him for all of 45 seconds, so its not like I was rambling on or being irate or anything. He was just plain rude. Where has customer service gone? I understand they need tools to bring new customers in, but not taking care of your existing customers is a terrible mistake. Hanging up on them is several magnitudes worse. Im moving to NorCal in a few months, and this has guaranteed me I will NOT be choosing Extra Space when I move there.

I have been a corporate customer for over four years. It took them 2-3 of those years to get our billing straight. One partner opened the account and 3 weeks later we gave them updated contact information. It took them YEARS to get things straightened out, payments were on bank driven auto pay so they always got their money on time. They would sent rent increase notices to the wrong address, call the wrong telephone numbers. The only contact we would have with them is during these times. I would explain each time what the appropriate emails address and phone number were. I would email them the same information. They apparently dont email the rent increases (last year they told me they did) so this month was 5.99 short (the rent increase). They are charging a $40 late fee, nobody local has the power to make a $40 decision, nobody at corporate 11 am PST was available to make a decision. A week later I get a call, they will not waive the fee and that they denied exit to some of our people picking up festival equipment, BEFORE telling us of their decision not to waive the fee. My every experience with them has been met with nothing but total exasperation. Oh and their bills are the smaller than post card mailers with the 3 perforated edges, I think they get lost mixing in with the junk mail. Will likely move, guess the storage locker business is good.

one is lured in with a free first month. Then after moving in a short time 60-90 days the rental rate is increased significantly. They insist on adding insurance unless one can provide a copy of their own homeowners insurance; an extra way for them to make revenue. Not sure how this squares with the State Insurance commission. Seems as if selling one is supposed to be licensed as an insurance agent. But small matter compared to the Bait and Switch being used to lure tenants. The staff is most polite, with the exception of one Lady who is probably the managers significant other or wife and seems to enjoy some delusional sense of power over tenants. Incidentally, I was never even close to being late with a payment, so this is not "sour grapes" or a disgruntled tenant and I have no connections other than a tenant. One very efficient, honest and polite employee who I think is called Tom, but not sure since only spoke with him once. I recommend going to an honest storage facility that will provide some steady rental rate so your costs can be projected. Be especially careful with this facility.

Check in was great and the staff were very helpful. However, the next time I came back to bring a load of items to my unit I found they placed a, "Thanks for choosing Extra Space Storage" sticker on my lock. The sticker covered my companys serial number on my lock and that number is how I look up our combinations. The sticker glue was stuck all over the lock and it took 15 minutes to scratch it off, which made me late for another appointment and ruined the serial number. I am livid that they chose to deface my personal property without asking me first. I went to the front desk to ask them to never deface my property again, but there was no one at the desk and two other people waiting for someone to show up to the desk to get help for other matters. So I called to talk to someone and she said, "sorry that sticker is just a standard security protocol we have." I told her it would have been nice if someone told me they were going to deface my property before doing so. I also asked they they never alter my lock again and she said she would try to inform the manager....Im not happy.
