I feel compelled after another bad experience at yet another Pep boys to write a review I was helping my son move and my truck would not start and so I called this Pep boys as it was a weekend my choices were limited but I was assured when I called this establishment they could take a look and work on it that afternoon to fix it. I had AAA tow the truck to the shop and after 5 hours and being charged for several fried fuses I was told it needed a new starter, so I went ahead and approved the starter and was charged several hundred dollars, but was told I should not turn the truck off until I got home because they put a substandard fuse in as they ran out of the fuses that it required. I made it home only to get in the truck the next day and it did not start and the fuse was burned out again clearly indicating something was shorting out. They did not start working on the truck until late in the afternoon and were working on it after the store had closed which is exemplary, however it appears they had no idea what the problem was and sold a several hundred dollar job not knowing, in what looks like so they could go home. I asked my neighbor who is a mechanic what he thought it might be based on the symptom, and said sounds like an ignition switch, so he removed the plastic trim to expose the ignition switch and without even taking the unit out you could see it had shorted out as it was chard from the short. So a new ignition switch costs less than $100 the job took about an hour to replace and the truck starts and runs fine with no problems since. My neighbor indicated the switch is the first thing they should have checked based on the symptoms and that I should turn this Pep boys in to the Bureau of Automotive Repair for over diagnosing to charge a higher fee. I will be contacting the Bureau of Automotive Repair after a second bad experience at another Pep boys, and will no longer look to them for any automotive needs. I also see this particular Pep boys has a number of bad reviews which clearly is a red flag that there are issues with this facility, but it appears to me to be a company wide issue after an additional bad experience today at yet another Pep boys this time in Vallejo. Im not one to write negative reviews, normally wont write anything if the experience is bad, but in this case feel compelled to speak out.

Bought a used truck and wanted to have the brakes checked out. They had a coupon for a free brake check and said they could do the job but, it would take an hour or so so I decided to wait. An hour goes by and they hadnt even started when I talked to the guy at the service counter he said Thats the way it goes I would just have to wait. Another hour goes by and the service advisor said it was all finished and the pads and shoes were in good condition. Front looked like new and the rear had 50% wear on them. A week later I was hauling a 25 trailer over Pacheco Pass and as I was going down a grade I couldnt slow down even with the emergency brake. Obviously something was wrong so I went to good year and was told my pads were riding on metal and now I would need to change the rotors and drums since the front rotors were now warped and the drums couldnt be turned anymore because of gouges in the metal. Over a thousand dollars later I was good to go and I could stop. Went back to pep boys and the pulled my invoice and he looked at the mechanics notes and the front was new and the rear had no notes do the Manager, Fernando was his name I believe stated it doesnt look like the rear was checked . He then told me I probably only asked for the front to be checked all though the scope of work said Check brake condition and advise customer Coupon included Free Brake analysis. I said this wasnt the case and then he said they probably didnt have time. How can they fool around with someones life. I clearly told them why I wanted the brakes checked and that I would be hauling a trailer next week . I told them about Goodyear and their findings and could care less. Never go to this location for service. They rather lie and kill you.

No arrows from the parking lot on how to find the entrance. No parking available in lot but almost no one was in the store. Waited quite a while for somebody to show up to the front desk. When they finally arrived I asked them if it was free to get batteries installed if I bought it there and she said "I dont know. A lot of people have asked me that question but I dont know, youll have to ask the mechanics". It seems like if a lot of people asked that question that might be something worth finding out. The woman at the service and tire desk told me I should purchase at their register, not at the customer service desk, then they can guarantee the installation would be free. The installation that day would require a drop off. I was unable to drop the car off for the next 6 hours at that time. However the tire desk wouldnt accept the coupon of $25 off a $100 purchase (coupon popped up when I signed into WiFi). I decided to go to the customer service desk to try to use the 25$ off coupon. The woman at that desk was much more polite than the first two women. However, the 3rd woman was not able to get the $25 coupon to work. After I bought the battery, I went back to the tire desk to see if I could schedule the installation for another day, but she said I would have to pay $100 for the installation. Looks like Im going to go to another tire place, they said they will install for $15. Overall, not very organized, and the employees dont seem particularly friendly. I was left with a not great feeling about this location.

Am I being shafted? I purchased a half shaft, a front wheel drive axle with CV joints. I took the time to correctly install it. A few weeks later I noticed grease was leaking form it. There was no damage it was coming out between the rubber boot and the shaft, obviously defective. The shaft is warrantied for life but not the labor. I figured if I get another defective part, it would be better to have Pep Boys do the installation and Id save myself time especially if the replacement part was defective. I called the service department and was told that I would need to take out the half shaft myself if I wanted to exchange it. They could only install new half shafts and not the new replacement from me that I payed $59.00 from the parts department. They could not give me an even exchange for the defective one that is on my car. They could use it as a used replacement core but I would need to buy a new half shaft for $74.00 from the service department. Or they could charge me $25.00 core charge so that I could exchange it but that they could not install that part. Im not sure if I was talking to the best person so I asked for the but supervisor and was told he would not be in until the next day. This is the second time Ive had a bad experience with Pep Boys service. Knowing better I bought the part form them because they were the only place around that had one in stock. I wont make that mistake again. Pep Boys never again.
