Ive been a Synergy student for 6 years and am happy to call it home. The best part about Synergy is the fact that they offer instruction for just about any purpose (self-defense, sport/professional, fitness and health) and any skill level -- first class to black belt or pro. Also crucial to me is the great price and lack of contract. Ive trained at Synergy in kenpo (short description below if youre unfamiliar), kick boxing, a bit of MMA and fitness classes in both private and group settings. There are other offerings that I have yet to try as well. Instruction, and the instructors themselves, are top notch. Co-owner Scott Pedersen is awesome at adapting his teaching style to help just about anyone get the most out of class. Ive seen him teach six to sixty year olds (including my two kids), first timers to black belts, English as second language students and even students suffering from nagging injuries, chronic pain and serious disabilities. The same goes for MMA head instructor Paul, and I havent trained much with the other co-owner Rick but hes a cool cat, has a pretty sick resume and Ive heard nothing but good from those who have trained and worked with him. When shopping around originally, I tried different studios and styles around Denver looking to resume martial arts training but also to learn how to keep my family and I safe. Kenpo fit the bill. The self defense focus differs from tae kwon do or karate which revolve around sport fighting. Kenpo does borrow from traditional martial arts but also adds its own flavors to address just about any dangerous situation you can think of. The idea is to learn to spot and exploit advantages to create an opening for a safe escape. Training aims to prepare you for awareness, readiness and effectiveness in the real world, not just in class against kenpo students. Every technique is situational and potential situations are created in class and practiced with classmates who are encouraged not to give up easily. Application on real people is especially helpful in group class where youll practice techniques with people of all shapes, sizes and skills. In addition, theres more of an emphasis on principles than specific techniques, and improvisation is encouraged as long as it leads to getting yourself out of trouble (although you still have to nail your techniques to pass tests). Generally, the same is true for kickboxing and MMA. The last thing on my original priority list was the environment, or making friends, or anything like that. But without getting all syrupy (but still using a corny cliché only in search of accuracy) I feel like Im with family when Im there. There are tough guys but no toughguys. No elitism. The only downside Ive run into is that with all the different classes and skill levels offered, some of the less attended classes are offered only once or twice a week. The fact that a private lesson is part of the package helps with that. Speaking of the package, no contract (monthly fee only) means you only pay when youre actually attending. And its been a while but when I was shopping around, Synergys monthly fee couldnt be beat. fyi - my 6 years of training includes time spent at the location preceding the recent move under the title Advantage Martial Arts

I love this gym! They have cardio fitness classes, personal training, and a variety of martial arts classes. You can choose the kind of experience that you want. The street fighting-type classes are super-intense and amazingly fun. I call it "bruises and smiles" since everyone seems to finish class a little bit bruised, but very happy. Meanwhile, the cardio classes are more mainstream (no bruises) but still very challenging and fun. I havent taken any of the the Kenpo Karate classes, but they look like more of a traditional approach to martial arts. The two owners, Rick and Scott, bring many years of experience in martial arts and physical fitness. You see people at all ages and fitness levels in this school. Theres a friendly and welcoming vibe from both students and staff.

I have been taking my son to Karate lessons at Advantage Martial Arts (now called Synergy) for seven years now. He loves his lessons, and has learned a lot about discipline and self respect. He is much more coordinated now which helps him with sports such as basketball. His instructor Scott Pedersen is great with kids and has always created a safe and fun environment. He is calm and friendly but also firm. He is able to work with a variety of skill levels all within the same class while keeping each child engaged. My son is currently enrolled in private lessons which has helped him master individual challenges. This studio offers many different classes and activities for children and adults. It is a great place for the whole family.

My wife and I have ALWAYS struggled finding a routine to stay fit that we both enjoy and can keep consistent with (and weve tried just about everything). This is the only time in over 7 years of trying to figure it out that we can both say we 1) genuinely enjoy the experience and 2) we are both pushed to our respective limits! We have more energy, have lost weight, and just FEEL so much better from the workouts Rick puts us through - err, I mean, works us through! Whether youre a health nut or walk in more because you know you "should," Rick has that rare ability to motivate and progressively (and quickly!) increase your goals no matter where youre starting from. I cannot recommend this highly enough!

What I was looking for when I joined Gym Synergy was a school where I could continue learning Kali (Filipino Martial Arts) and self defense. What I found was a place where I could advance in these skills but also get an incredible workout, a place with the highest caliber of instructors and a place where I could develop incredible friendships and camaraderie. Feeling frustrated? Come and hit a bag. Learn how to throw a punch and kick so your leg doesnt break (Anderson Silva Im looking at you). The facility is great and Sifu Scott P, Dr. Rick and Paul (MMA coach) will make you better. Come here if you want to work hard, look good and learn that learning how to defend yourself IS an art.

If you are looking for a pretentious gym that offers standard fitness classes that focus only on looking cute and listening to Bieber, dont come here. If you are looking for a martial arts education that focuses on technique, training, and results-no matter your fitness level, this is the place for you. Scott and Rick encourage a supportive, educational, and fun atmosphere and they dont tolerate anything less. I have been training under Scott for over 5 years and have gained so much from the training. As cheesy as it sounds, it has literally been life-changing and so positive. I highly recommend Synergy!

This gym is absolutely fantastic! Ive worked with Rick Rogers since 2009 and have always been impressed with his knowledge, passion and energy to help his students reach their goals. He makes the workouts tough yet fun, he pushes while remaining supportive. Plus he plays the best 80s music and is always up for talking about Star Trek, comics or Supernatural. Can you get any better?! I didnt think so. Im proud to call Rick both a teacher and a friend. If you want results - youll get them here. Come work out with us!

This school is awesome. Just what I was looking for for my 8 year old son. He loves the classes and the instructor. While other martial arts training places are over-priced and require you make a commitment, Synergy Martial Arts has three easy payment levels that are paid monthly. No committment. My son attends two classes per week. After class, when I ask him " did you have fun", his response is, "dad, you never have to ask me that, I always have fun"! Thats exactly what a parent wants to hear!
