Cancellation Policy Turns My Decision From Temporary Gym Membership Suspension To Full On Permanent No-Deal. Today’s Target: Edge Fitness in Meriden ct Today’s Mission: To temporarily suspend my month to month gym membership while I am doing an at home intense work out routine. My Expectations and Hopes: I assume that I will contact the gym by phone, and that they will tell me that I have to send them some kind of written notice that I want to suspend or cancel my membership, after which, they will take their sweet time cancelling it. I assume that they will ask my why I am choosing to make this decision, and that they will want me to return as a paying customer at some point in the future. Why should I expect anything else? After all, that is what the sales person at the Edge Fitness in Bonaire, Georgia told me that I would have to do if I ever wanted to cancel, and we all know that we can trust absolutely everything that sales people tell us. Right? Wrong. My Real Life Customer Experience: Ok, like many other people, back in January of this year, I joined a gym. Don’t be a Judgemental Jenny just yet. I also hired a trainer. I know, I’m so fancy. Anyhow, I did meet with this trainer every time we were scheduled to meet for 8 weeks. However, I just was not seeing the kind of results that I wanted, so I cut that program loose for my home gym, which already has a treadmill in it. Plus, my house has a couch, so on my off days, I can totally just sit there for free-no monthly fees required. Who ever said that I don’t watch my dolla dolla bills? So, flash forward to August of this year, and I finally get tired of seeing that $19.95 auto debited from my bank account, especially because it certainly is not making my jeans fit any better. Let’s be honest, I have spent less time in that gym in the last 6 months than Lindsey Lohan has spent sober. I decide that I am going to give the gym a call and begin this process of cancellation. I call around 11AM and speak with a very nice young lady who informs me that I will have to come and pay them a visit to pick up a cancellation form, which I will then have to mail into them. I’m a numbers person, so immediately I do not like this. I am thinking, “Let’s assume on a bad day that my time is worth a minimum of $20 per hour, plus roughly $2.50 in gas, and then I have to mail them a letter for $.45.” Total damage: $22.95. I am not thrilled with this, but I would rather do this once, than to continue to pay the $19.99. Grading Scale: Wow, I am going to have to give them an F here. Why? It’s because all of these tactics were put in place to cause individuals not to cancel their memberships by making it a difficult and annoying process. That is tantamount to ripping off customers, which will always receive an F on my grading scale. Some people make mistakes by accident and upset their customers, for Edge Fitness, it is policy. Hyenas. Customer Tip: The next time that you are in a position where you have to sign up for a membership for a gym, please be very clear right from the start what the cancellation process is. In fact, if I were you, I would have the sales person’s boss write it out and sign it for you. Closing: The gym at Edge Fitness in Bonaire is clean, well lit, has plenty of equipment, and a huge selection of classes. The monthly membership fee is completely reasonable, if you are using it. The trainers are very friendly and with long term dedication, you likely could achieve your results while working with them. Their cancellation policy is nothing short of a criminal act in my opinion.

I signed up to this gym 4 months before it opened mainly because Club 24 across the street was closing. Like an idiot my wife and I signed up for a 2 year premium contract which was the worst idea ever. The first few months were great, the gym was clean, not crowded, and the equipment was super nice and modern. A few months in, people also started noticing the brand new gym and the crowds grew larger and larger, it got to the point where there is NO parking available unless you park over at Panera or BigY. You cant go to the gym from 4:00pm to 9:00pm because you youll never be able to get an actual workout done, you literally have to wait up to 20 minutes for a bench or squat rack to free up. Needless to say I havent worked out there for probably almost a year or so and now Im paying $40 a month for me and my wife who both never go there. I moved further into Meriden so I go to Club 24 on Pratt street where I can actually get a decent workout in for 9/month even though the gym doesnt have as much equipment. I tried getting them to cancel my contract but it ended up being the same price as keeping it until it expires. I cannot wait until March when my contract is up. I am not the only one who stopped going to this gym, I have 10+ friends who signed up before the gym opened and NONE of them go there for the same reasons.

The gym itself has a great variety of equipment for people of all fitness levels, and has a decent protein and smoothie drink bar. The main issue with this gym, and it isnt even really the gym itself, is the people who work out there. Hardly anyone wipes off machines, no one puts their weights back properly and they just slam the weights around. Alot of the machines fabrics are ripped and weights are becoming cracked. Theres also ALOT of weirdos here too who stare at you blankly, or try to bother you while youre in the middle of a set. The staff is pretty much mixed some are really kind and helpful, and some you can tell tell just hate their lives and dont want to be there. Also, be careful of theft. While my friend and I were spotting eachother on the decline bench during a busy afternoon, someone walked right by and took my buddies shaker cup, and wrist straps from behind us without us seeing. Its a shame you cant take your eyes off your stuff for a second, so bring as little gear as possible. Of course, its Meriden so noone should really be surprised.

We moved here from PF across the street because they had reformer classes-- It is the only reason we joined..... Now I am being told they are removing those reformers from the gym. I complained that the only reason we joined there fro PF was for the reformer classes( which i may additional for) We are 4 months in and i told them i want to cancel-- they said i have 8 months left. I talked to the SNARKY membership manager Amy and she was rude-- commented that no where in the contract did it say that they had to offer specific classes-- nice customer service-- I asked for the GM and was told he was busy to email him-- I called back and every time I call I get the "He is in a meeting" I then asked for his bosses info and no one seems to know it.... I called Fairfield and interestingly enough they were more than happy to provide me with the information. I will never recommend this place to anyone -- all i wanted was pilates class and I got that with a HUGE SIDE OF ATTITUDE....... and now I wont have the sessions just the attitude!!! I think not!!!
