Laptop : Thinkpad yoga 14 Problem : Suddenly stopped working and wasnt detecting the charging adapter Points to note: I had opened the laptop myself like 5 months back to replace HDD with SSD but thats it. The 16Mb cache was removed by me which could have loosened some main board connector. What I did: I panicked and went straight to Laptop repair of Gainesville guys. I was told to leave the laptop for the free diagnostic service. I left the laptop there. I got a text on monday that my main board in not working and will be charged 290 dollars for repair. I decided not to pay this amount and get my laptop back. I went to the shop on monday evening and got the laptop back. Then I went to another shop called Dog bytes. These guys plugged in the charger and whoops the things started to work. I imagine what happened was - the loose connector problem got sorted after it was opened and repacked. The thing that hurted: After a free diagnostic checkup I was told a that a fee of 290 USD would be charged to replace the main board. The repackaged laptop was also not screwed properly(loose screws). I would should mention that screws were already missing but I had to ask the reception to screw in 2 more screws because at the time I accepted the laptop back 4 screws were missing. But that guy did tightened the 2 missing screws. Also, I was told that my keyboard will be properly fitted if I come back the other day which I didnt go. I would apologize for my last review which wasnt upto the mark. These guys are probably very good but I had a nightmarish experience. I could have lost 290 USDs for a new board that wasnt even needed but I got saved as I decided not to go ahead with the repair work. This was the only issue I would like people to know. Also thanks to these guys as they didnt replace any parts or anything. I still have my SSD and board and graphic card and 8 gb memory and I appreciate this part! But the information about board not working was not accurate as its working fine. Infact I am using the same laptop to write this review. No offense otherwise. Alternative I chose: Dog Bytes computer services inc. They have open desk. Not free diagnostic; I guess its 45 but worth it. P.S they charged me nothing cuz all the did was push the power button!!

Though they offer free diagnostics, theyre either dishonest or bad at their jobs. I brought my laptop in because it wasnt charging, and they said it needed a new battery jack that would cost me $160. Since its a 2+ year-old cheapie, I was prepared to replace it. When I brought my "dead" laptop home, my non-tech-savvy dad in academia (he types with four fingers while looking down at the keyboard) brought out a simple voltmeter and told me it was in fact my AC adapter that was broken. It was less than 10$ to find a new one on eBay, and Im typing on my laptop at this moment (its maybe getting older/slower, but still in fine condition). I cant believe they were about to let me dispose of my laptop which had such a simple problem. I understand the desire to make money in our market-driven economy, but I just ask for some honesty. Please do not offer "free" diagnostics if you are just going to give the customer the option that makes you the most money. I think its worth getting a second opinion after these guys! Also agree the customer service was pretty bad and the guy wasnt very personable. Parking wasnt an issue for me as I walked directly from my classes on UF campus. PS, I called around laptop repair places in Gainesville from a list that the computer-people at the Hub gave me, and I did find a place that would do battery jack replacements for 150$. I never got a straight answer from Best Buy, but they estimated it would be 90-100$ I believe, so from my experience, I do think it would be worth it to check them out. Good luck to everyone with their laptop troubles!

Complete Ripoff. My laptop had the DC input component pin shear off. I didnt want to send it in because I had a lot to do this week in terms of school work. The UF Computer Help Desk recommended this store, and so I took my ASUS laptop down to see if it could be fixed. When I was there, they told me that it would take a couple hours just to open up my laptop because it did not have quick access screws, and so they couldnt tell me what it would cost to repair. I said OK, left my laptop there and went back to my dorm. an hour later, I receive a call saying that they are fixing the problem and it would cost $200 to fix. This seemed extreme to me but they already started so I couldnt say no. I got there when it was finished and listened to the guy at the front desk tell the people ahead of me that they would have to replace a specific part on their PC, the part would be $80 and it would total $170. At this point, I knew something was wrong. I asked why my repair was so expensive for a small component and 1.5 hrs of labor, and he said the part was expensive, $80. After spending several minutes in vain trying to have him reduce the ridiculous cost of labor, I left with my PC. Still finding the price of such a small component to be too high, I googled the part; lo and behold, its a measly $3.25!! Bottom Line, DO NOT GO HERE FOR YOUR REPAIRS, YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF!!!

Shady People! Dont Trust Them... They are like auto repair shops. I had a problem with my laptop that needed an inverter board to fix my screen ASAP. I used to work for repair shops and know how these place work. They are mostly dishonest and will charge you for stuff you dont need, similar to a bad mechanic. I knew what I needed and always know how to test these people and their honesty. Both PC repair and Mechanics. I called around to all the PC repair places in Gainesville, these guys were the only people that claimed to have the part in stock. They also offer "Free Diagnostic", I figured I was in luck. After bringing my laptop in telling them what I "think" the problem is and asking for a full diagnostic test they said they would check it out and call me in a couple of hours. I get the call and they say it would cost $160 to fix it before even telling me the problem. I asked what the problem was and they swapped the video card and everything worked fine. The video cards for my laptop are hard to come by and I didnt think that they actually had the card. I asked them to show me the the new and old card. The guys starts stuttering and making up some excuse of why he cant show me the part. Long story short... They tried to sell me a $160 repair for a part that cost me $8 on ebay and 15 minutes of my time to replace.

i sent my laptop to laptop repair they called me when they got it, called with the price called when it was done (next day) and called to say it was shipped. the price 1/10th of a new laptop. I deal with business`s every day and I do know that the NEW way is to promise everything, charge them double, and give them half. This is not the case with LTR. Ive read the reviews how some people are crying about price but think about this you go to get a root canal it cost 900.00 the Dr. spent 45min. on you and then what you get up and tell him that the drill bit only cost 7 bucks why your a ripoff lol NO you pay him for his talent for his speed and most of all because your to damm dumb to do it yourself give this guy a break hes the first computer repair co. Ive ever used that does what he said he would do. Keep up the good work J. and remember the world needs crybabies to. greg thalis
