The gym itself is nice. Since going there, I have noticed a few annoyances which I will go into. Pros - For the most part staff is nice. Adrien at the front desk was very greeting / helpful, and made me feel at ease my first time showing up. - Pool, Basketball, Huge room for stretching, jump rope, boxing, fundamental training (When there are no classes) - Doesnt seem to be missing any key machines or piece of equipment - Locker rooms are big and sauna is a nice addition Cons - Dumbbells are never racked and almost impossible to find. This is mostly the fault of people that have no basic logic / etiquette, but they could still hire someone to clean up a little every so often. - Mens locker room is always flooded in the toilet area. I think this is due to people leaving the sauna open or something, but it is annoying. - I saw a small cockroach in the locker room the other day. Gross but...Florida life... - Paper towels / soap are always empty. This should be a main priority to keep things sanitary. - Also I dont understand how there is no cleaning products next to the paper towels for people to clean after they use a machine, cardio equipment ESPECIALLY. Even if only half of people actually used it (because I am aware people lack basic etiquette), it would still help keep things sanitary. All of this said though, I think most people doing these negative reviews are just afraid of being social with anyone. Sure, the dumbbells are never racked. Sure, it gets slammed around peak hours. Sure, it is almost impossible to find an empty machine during those hours, BUT I have never asked someone to work in with them without them saying ok. There will always be those guys that hog the dumbbells and ruin the simple etiquette rules but that is life. Likewise, if I am using a bench by myself and I see someone waiting, I will ask if they want to work in even if they dont ask. I know how it is waiting. Just put yourself in other peoples shoes. For instance, a lady had FIVE sets of dumbbells at her station the other day, and was actually going back and forth from another piece of equipment.... I COULD have been like wow she is selfish, rude, and ignorant blah blah, but I went up nicely and asked if I could work in with a set of her dumbbells. Of course she said yes. We are all there for one reason. Get in, work out, and get out. (Well maybe thats not totally true for some people haha) But if you are just nice and courteous it will come back to you as well.

Pros: relatively new gym so everything seems clean, new, etc. Machines break but are usually fixed within a week so thats not too bad. Decent selection of machines, benches, etc. (I basically do weights so I cant speak so much for the cardio machines) Pretty people which is nice lol. pool, sauna, hot tub. I do like that the gym is cleaned every night. I see the guy who does the cleaning and he is very thorough which isnt always the case at gyms. Cons: this gym is always packed. I guess its because it (and US1 fitness down the block) are the only gyms around. The dumbells are ALL OVER the place. I go to FIU and somehow college students manage to keep dumbells nicely racked- puts LA F. members to shame. This place is in chaos during the night hours (good luck finding matching weights in a timely fashion). As for dishonesty, scams, and things of that nature, I cant say Ive been duped. I did my research beforehand and refused to sign up unless it was a good price ($25 a month for 2 and $50 down total). I love working out but I refuse to pay more than $25 a month for a gym. FYI, signing up took about a month. I went and told them the price I wanted. They say they "will work with you" but they dont. They have pricing schemes that they follow. However, if you go and dont sign up, your name gets placed in a prospective customers file and inevitably you will get a call(s) during the following week(s) offering you this, that, and the other. Just play hardball and they will meet your conditions for the most part. AND as for their trainers, most of them look out of shape and look like they took some half-assed trainer certification course. My advice: look around, find someone who looks the part and ask if he/she trains or knows a good trainer. I know a few good trainers I can recommend and am also probably going to start training now that summer started. Sorry for the rant but I hope this helps some of you out there.

Visited this gym; while my trial pass was still active from a branch in Hamden, CT. To compare the two, would be like comparing Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in Chelsea, London to McDonalds in Brooklyn, New York. As soon as you walk in, there is a certain old gym sock smell. After checking in and walking over to the locker room, I immediately spun around and walked out. It was dirty, smelly, very old and not well-maintained at all. Placed my bag back into my truck and went back in to attempt to see the brighter side of things. I mean, it’s gym-time, right?! The second level you will find a small track and on the first is all of the workout equipment with a room or two for classes. Equipment was really old and crammed in there pretty tight. Perhaps, if I didn’t start my LA Fitness journey at the Hamden, CT location I would have stayed a bit longer. I will say the place has potential; if it was renovated, cleaned and had some better equipment that was strategically placed. Luckily, I was just visiting family, before heading overseas again. My recommendation to anyone in the area would be to search out another gym. Gym is a scared place and should be a place you enjoy spending your valuable time maintaining your health. There should be no doubt in your mind that instead of walking away with sore muscles and a great workout, you may walk away with a fungus infection.

There seems to be a lot of nagging in the reviews--so annoying. I compared my options between joining the gym at FIU as an alumni, which is offered at a generous discount. LA Fitness in comparison has a tremendous bang for your buck. I make use of just about everything--classes, locker room, sauna, pool, Jacuzzi, etc. Overall, I have no complaints. No one re-racks the free weights, and this isnt a problem for me because I stick with the weight machines and I never use the free weights. And no one wipes down the machines...I always thought one should wipe them down PRIOR to using them to clean off the last persons germs. I also keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my phone pouch. But overall, the classes have been top notch, the facilities are clean and 95% functional, the location is good and always has ample parking. And even when the place is seriously PACKED, Ive never had to wait for machines. I cant say this about any other gym, and Ive been a member at 3 different gyms prior to this one. Overall, I leave feeling like Ive had a good work out and I get my moneys worth with the locker room. My biggest complaint is that there is the occasional annoying person using their phone in the sauna, but I can overlook that. And Im always greeted with a smile--I havent seen any of these shark-like jerk employees that other reviewers refer to.
