Performance Computer Group is a perfect example of the importance of locally owned and operated computer stores. While Amazon may have a seemingly endless inventory, and the remaining big box stores may be able to offer you the latest and greatest technology, they will never match the personal experience and expertise you get going to a place like PCG. I was in a bind and PCG went above and beyond what I expected from a computer repair shop. The power supply on my laptop died on me and wouldn’t charge. I opened it up and removed the tiny SSD M.2 drive that contained months of pictures and Word documents. I figured I’d go on Amazon, get an adapter so I could hook it up to my new laptop and copy all my original files to the new laptop. However, since you can’t really talk to someone at Amazon, and going by user reviews is pretty useless, I ended up getting a cable that wouldn’t work with my drive. I went to Best Buy and they told me they didn’t have the right adapter either, and if they did they would charge me $80 to transfer the data to a thumb drive. That’s where PCG came in and saved the day. Brett Kappes, the owner, must have seen the desperation on my face. He knew exactly what I was trying to do and showed me the cable I needed. Unfortunately, he didn’t sell the cable. I offered to rent it from him, but he said he couldn’t do that. Then he said something that I wouldn’t have expected. “If you want, bring your laptop in, hook up the drive and just get the files you need.” I offered to pay him for his time, telling him I have a few months of large picture files on there too, but Brett refused. “Just bring it in and copy what you need. Not a problem.” After I picked my daughter up from pre-school, I took Brett up on his offer. In a little under a half hour I had all the files I needed off the old hard drive and Brett and PCG made a life-long fan. This was more than something nice a local business did for a potential customer, this was something a member of a community does to help someone out of a jam. This is not the kind of service you’ll get when you need something on Amazon, and it certainly isn’t something Best Buy would have done. I will always be grateful for Brett’s act of kindness. Based on this experience, I will recommend PCG to anyone I know and I will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone there who helped me today! -Scott

I am the worst person to critique any computer repair shops for two reasons: 1. I myself owned a computer sales and repair shop before I moved to Tampa. I am very critical of how most computer sales and repair shops operate. 2. I plan on opening my own computer repair shop again in Tampa someday so talking up the competition isnt the first thing on my list. With that said, I currently work as the IT Director for a company here in Tampa. One of our servers went down and would not power back up. While all my data is usually backed up, an admin placed some very important data in an area that we normally do not back up. As a result, we could not access that data. I called PCG and spoke with Paul. He informed me that they could in fact recover the data from my server drives. I thought he was reaching a bit because most of your mon & pop shops and super spendy stores dont have the staff knowledgeable enough to do such a task, nor do they usually have access to that type of hardware. I dropped off my drives off to them on Saturday with great skepticism. Sure, their store was nice... but that doesnt mean they are competent. Monday morning, the phone rings again... Im getting ready for a song and dance on the phone... "Sir, we completely recovered the data you said you needed!" WOW, excellent... but at what cost??? I was afraid to ask and just drove down to pick up my data. What could I do, I had to pay it. When I arrived, Paul took me back to the recovery tech. The guy actually knows his stuff. I was pretty impressed. He explained to me how long it took to recover the data, how he connected my drives to his server, rebuilt the RAID array, etc. So I thank him, take my data and my credit card up to the front, and get ready to pay the piper. To my surprise, not only did they not try to add on a bunch of hidden charges, but they actually apologized for not getting my data to me sooner! Bravo PCG, you have made a believer out of me and I would highly recommend you to my friends, family or even future customers. You have changed my view of you from being a competitor to being a business partner.

I brought into their shop a new Dell desktop with Windows 7, since IRS was on XP I needed the operating systems changed. They perform the change, and placed a sticker on the computer to never remove the mouse and keyboard from the usb ports on the back of the computer. IThey lost all my corporation tax returns from the desktop. They told me that they are not responsible for data loss. All my port in back of computer are taped over the usb ports no place for external for backup drive. Well, 7 months later my mouse dies. I take it to Geek Squad, they say that PCG should have never changed operating systems as the motherboard doesnt work the keyboard and mouse on XP, to take it back to PCG. Paul, the owner, took in the computer, and went to Vegas. I spent seven days without my office computer at the beginning of tax season. My Dell computer has all my client information, new IRS 2015 tax preparation package in the computer $2000 and checking information of all clients. Paul at the taking of the job was told of what was inside the hard drive. Private Client Information. Today, he tells me he is going to see what he can do for me as he has loss all the information on my hard drive. PCG has put me in a liable position as I do not know where my clients socials, bank account and federal ID have gone. I now under the moral and ethical laws need to inform each client that their information has been loss. I do not have the previous years information on any of the returns so doing my clients taxes will take longer. The irresponsibility of this man Paul and his work ethics are deplorable and dishonorable.

Ignore every bad review you read about this place. Seriously. They rock. I have an intermediate-level knowledge of how computers work, which to me means I can reseed my RAM and write HTML code without help, so I can do some things myself, but Im definitely not an expert. PCG are good people. I had a series of things go wrong with my laptop that I couldnt fix myself, and PCG not only fixed them within 24 hours, but they were better than competitively priced. **Heres the important part** I dropped my laptop and destroyed my charging port. PCG fixed it within 18 hours and for a fair price. Three months later I went in for the same problem: my charging port stopped working. When I brought my laptop in **I expected to pay full price for it to be fixed** but they fixed it for FREE!! They didnt have to fix it for free, but they did, because they had done the precise same repair three months ago. They could have been technical and called it my fault and charged me, but they didnt. They gave me a free repair under warranty even though I didnt ask for it because theyre just good people like that. I will now take my laptop to them for literally everything. And this is not the first time theyve given me work for free because it was the right thing to do. They did the same thing for me maybe ten years ago when I was 14, and Ive remembered them since then. This company is great. Screw everyone who says otherwise.
