This place is huge, personable, family-friendly, and other things that I find lot of corporate-owned gyms often lack. Ive reached all of my fitness goals, really enjoy the group exercise classes, and the trainers are most helpful. PROS -- Trainers. They have a lot of trainers to choose from, based on your fitness assessment and goals. Ive worked with trainer Tim Andel who put together some great workouts for me, that has helped me a lot with losing weight and looking more cut. Definitely ask for him and I think youll be impressed! -- Group classes. They have a wide variety for all exercise levels and activities. Ive done the spinning class a lot, and some total body workouts. The groups are well attended, but never feel too crowded. And they even include pilates and yoga! -- Excellent Customer service: Everyone was very helpful to me, especiall the Member Services Associate (Ask for Liz Sass, shes great!). -- Large Size: There is a huge amount of space in this building. You get an indoor track, large training areas, exercise courts, specialty fitness rooms, café, spa, great locker rooms, saunas, Jacuzzi, and large and small swimming pools. I find myself using the indoor track upstairs a lot, which is great for warming up for your workout. -- Classy Interior Design: This place has great architecture and scenic view. The building has wall-high windows, allowing for lots of natural light. The furniture throughout the building is very comfortable, and gives it a quality feel much better than what youd find at other municipal fitness centers nearby. -- Tons of Equipment: Theres a large amount of weight machines and free weights, and a ton of cardio. The equipment is modern enough to plug in your headphones to get a number of TV stations (including music videos), and easily portable for your own music player. -- Good selection of Classes: Some fitness classes are included for all members - not a giant amount of classes, but certainly enough for those looking to work out in a group. There are many specialty classes in the regular gym facilities, pool, and special workout rooms as well. -- Flexible Hours: Good hours 7 days a week. (Not 24/7, but realistic for people with early and late work schedules. -- Reasonable Fees: You arent locked into an annual membership, so you can do month-to-month. -- Free Trial: They are very generous with the guest passes, and even gave me several for my girlfriend, and one I could give to another friend. Thats typically a good sign that they have a lot of faith that peoples experience will be so good that theyll give it serious consideration for signing up. (Contrast that to the Wheeling Fitness Center, where they offer no free trial pass - and Im a resident there!) -- Lots of Parking: Lots and lots of free parking! -- Minor Traffic: I drive about 5.2 miles from Wheeling, and find it a smooth and easy drive to the place - never any serious traffic congestion yet. -- Cleanliness: The entire place was very clean and well-kept. -- Follow up - very nice and courteous. (Wheeling did absolutely nothing with me - no email, nothing. That makes no sense since they had me fill out a form requesting my email!) CONS -- High fees for non-residents: Monthly fee is $80 minimum if youre not a resident of Buffalo Grove. (I live in Wheeling which is the town to the East.) But honestly, paying $80/month is actually a great value youre committed to going, which I definitely am. OVERALL Municipal fitness centers biggest challenge is their higher price to places like Ballys, X-Sport, Fitness19, and other chain fitness centers. The corporate chains can cut costs and offer lower rates than most municipal gyms can, which can make it hard to compete. However this place does have a good feel of community, great equipment, great atmosphere, and excellent customer service. Very importantly, it makes you feel inspired to exercise, and to enjoy just being in the facility.

I love the pool and the people...BUT, seriously, if you are a swimmer PLEASE dont spit into the drain thinking it doesnt go into the pool!!! That is so nasty! And it would be great if the water aerobic teacher would be on time so that when they close the lanes to the swimmers it isnt 10 minutes before the class even starts (she is NEVER on time!!! ) One more rant...The showers and locker room are NOT your home....please dont clean out your comb/brush in the shower and leave your hair in the drain, ALSO NASTY!!!! And rude! The lovely people who clean up are not your personal maids and dont need to be cleaning up after you...This is a wonderful place for our community, lets keep it nice! Just common curtesy !!!

got in trouble for taking off my shoes!! THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING TILL 1 MONTH AGO! now there arent any good barbells and us teens arent allowed to use the good olympic bar. me and my friends are thinking about leaving this place. i usually deadlift and squat and i dont have good shoes and i take them off to be more stable and safe but no i guess not. so now i have to go out and drop money on new shoes just for this place. dont go here! it was the **** a bit ago now everybody complains about u. and also if your looking to go here and are under 20, most old men and workers will complain about you if u do anything but the "norm".

People at the front desk were nice. But had a horrible experience with a staff member. She was rude, impolite and made offensive personal remarks against me. I complained about her and just quit the place. The have my doubts about the review above. The above reviewer is a social strategist. I donot know if the above reviewer was asked to post good reviews about this fitness center. Just google his name and you will find out. Stay away from this place and find a less expensive gym where people do treat you well.

Very grateful to live so close to this great center. The facilities are excellent. The group exercise schedule and instructors are outstanding. My favorite classes are MMA, Weekend Warrior, Restorative Yoga. The cost has gone up over the last year, but no where near Lifetimes prices! I recommend, especially if you live nearby. I also appreciate them opening up the therapy pool to children and not just the lap pool.

Been a member a few months. Great facility. Staff is all super friendly and helpful. Facility is very well maintained and spotlessly clean. 3 of the 4 cycle instructors that I have experienced are quite good. One needs a ton of training and education, please. I highly recommend this facility if you are seeking a new gym. Thank you

Love the swimming pool here. Warmer pool for smaller kids. Have good swimming coaches. The staff is very helpful and social. Only problem I faced was with the family rooms. they do not have enuf space for kids. Has been a pain all the time when a dad is taking his girl here or vice versa. Else this wud have got 5 stars

Decent gym. Weights are clean and newer. Treadmills are popular and plentiful. They even probably have enough equipment to do CrossFit if you know what youre doing. (No weight dropping though).

Very nice gym.I would give it 5 stars if the membership fee wasnt so high. Gyms with the Same amenitys are a third of the cost. I would think a park district facility would be cheaper.

Facility is cool and nice, but its too pricy for a casual use. To compare, mount prospect gym only costs 25 /month. Other commercial gyms cost around 30 to 40/month.
