I went to Car X on Route 120 in McHenry yesterday. Initially I just had an appointment to get my emissions test completed - which is so convenient to have a place to go locally! After inquiring the Manager, Brad, about how much it would cost to fix my bell crank and brake light, I realized they were priced similar to my independent mechanic. Brad kindly through in fixing the brake light for free and priced my repaired bell crank at the same price my mechanic would have charged. They quickly got the part which cost more than expected but Brad still honored his initial price! The manager, Brad, was a professional, personable, friendly man. As a woman, going into a mechanic shop isnt my favorite experience but I have found the place to go. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Looking for a dedicated, competent, honest and extraordinarily talented mechanic? Jackpot! We drive over 2 hours roundtrip to get here for our car repairs. We have older cars which weve invested in to keep them running. And they run beautifully. We are saving money in the long run because Edward Goetzelmann is the best mechanic we have ever had. Rebuilds, regular maintenance as well as old car maintenance (more selective!) We think Ed should have a Phd in mechanical science... also Herman, the parts man and information station for many details is amazing as well. The owner is gracious, funny, kind and professional. There is another mechanic there too... who I am sure is great, or they would not have him there. We really trust this place for our car care.

My muffler disintegrated right in front of their shop at 7:15 AM. I pulled in and they did not know me from Adam. I am from out of state and was in an urgent hurry. They stopped what they were doing and attended to me right away. And because they could not really fix the problem,only get me on the road again- which was HUGE, they did not charge me for it. How often do we find service like that any where?! Highly recommend Car-X to anyone in McHenry county, IL.

Top Notch, I took our vehicle in today after being quoted a very high rate at a local dealership (as expected). Car-X not only saved me hundreds of dollars they were able to squeeze our vehicle in today and complete the job the same day saving us time as well. Excellent service. Brought in my 2005 Suburban to have the air conditioning checked on a 96 degree day all they had to do was check the system and flushed out the radiator vents with water to remove the cotton wood. All they charged me was for the oil change and wiper replacement. Outstanding, I will be back.

From the moment Herman answered the phone to when I paid and left, it was a great experience. And Ive never said that about a car service shop. Thanks guys for being quick and fair :). Hopefully I dont have any more issues with my car, but when I do, Ill definitely be a returning customer.

Very helpful, very kind, and unlike a LOT of mechanic shops, they are fair and honest. Being a building HVAC mechanic myself, I am only slightly out of my element on cars. They are very trustworthy and fair on pricing. Only place I go!

Went in to get a tire pulled off and mounted onto a different rim. Guy did it right a way and charged me a very fair price. Even put the old tire on another rim for free.
