Never again!! This was my first time at Pep Boys, and for sure the last time. I dropped my car off for an oil change, a front wheel alignment and an Airbag Diagnostic at 9:15am. (The Airbag Malfunction message was popping up, no other error code or warning was displayed when I dropped the car off.) The Airbag Diagnostic was quoted at 115$. It seems reasonable to me, since it was promised to be comprehensive and it would take up to 90 min. Received a call at 5:00pm that day. The service manager on the phone said in a pretty rude tone that his mechanic was working on the car now for three hours and we have to pay another 230$ for the diagnostic. The car would also not be done that day anymore. Having no other choice, I agreed to pay for the extra time. Received another call at noon the next day. Received a quote for over 1,200$ to fix the problem, approx. 440$ in parts, the rest was labor. The required parts cost online no more that 250$ brand new, the repair procedure is well documented online as well, with a step-by-step video that takes no more than 15 min to replace the module and another 15 minutes to reprogram it. More than 700$ seems to be a bit much. I declined the service, paid for the diagnostic, oil change and alignment. To make matters worse, when I drove off, the "Stability Control System Malfunction" message now was popping up. We returned to the shop and told the service manager that this message is now popping up. He claimed that this message was there before, and his mechanic has noted it on the internal shop records after a test drive. This has not been mentioned to us, either when they called us, nor on the printed invoice, the diagnostic report or when we picked up the car. He then went on - pretty rudely - to explain that this has something to do with the airbag message, they did not cause it, and it will all be taken care off, once the new CIM module is installed and reprogrammed. That does not make a lot of sense, it is more likely that the mechanic knocked a sensor when performing the wheel alignment. He then finished the conversation saying Pep Boys will pay for the repair when we have a written statement from SAAB showing that they have caused the error. (Good luck finding a SAAB dealership these days.)

Came in for some rear brake caliper work on seized rear calipers I struggled to release by myself at about 10 am. Id lubed and worked on them quite a bit before. The mechanic managed to free them in a matter of 10-15 minutes (watched from the waiting room as he heated them & got them free) after finally getting my car in 2 &1/2 hours later (they quoted 1 hr wait). They proceeded to charge $360+ and "insisted" that I replace rear rotors (they had almost no wear on them due to the seized calipers not compressing; they merely showed a little rust which doesnt render calipers useless, they could have even been lightly turned...). Then, they said they needed to order new parts for the calipers (the rotor clips that affix to the calipers) and these didnt show up for another hour +. All in all, about 5 + hours later, they completed the work and I was out double what it should have cost, not to mention the bogus "shop fee they tack on (this is a phony charge FYI to anyone unaware. anything referenced in a "shop fee" is covered via a companys overhead & baked into pricing). Perhaps the most frustrating part, the new "oem equivalent", $40 ea rotor installation was the most expensive part of the whole deal...it cost more than the work on the calipers..They made we wait all morning & half of the afternoon just for them to do a brake job...

Terrible. I use to use Pep Boys a lot for repairs and auto supplies but never again. I took my car in to get an inspection and was told I need over $1300 worth of work. I went to a much more reputable establishment for a second opinion and almost everything Pep Boys told me was wrong. In fact, even when I told the other establishment what Pep Boys said needed to be done the laughed and said they wanted to check it out first before they give me an estimate on the work that Pep Boys said was necessary. Less then $300 dollars later my car is fine and almost nothing Pep Boys said was right other then a headlight which anyone could see needed to be replaced. The worst part is I went back to Pep Boys and asked them to make it right. They charged me $130 for an inspection that wasnt right. The service manager there was beyond unprofessional and very rude. He was unwilling to admit they were wrong or could possibly make a mistake. I got nothing except a lesson to never use Pep Boys for anything! I wont even buy a oil filter there after my experience with the management. Dont make the same mistake I did.

John Parr in the Parts and Accessories Dept. is the epitome of customer service. His store had an item in stock that my local store (Batavia) does not handle (its a service center only). John offered to send it to the Batavia location the next time he had a parts delivery to make there to save me the trouble of driving to the Naperville location. He explained that deliveries are made twice daily, when needed, and he would keep me posted as to when he could ship the item. Unfortunately, the outlying stores did not need any parts from him for two days, but he called me twice each day to update me on the situation. Since I did not need the item immediately, I was willing to wait. I appreciated knowing each morning and afternoon the status of my item, until, on the third day, when he was able to send it to Batavia. It was wonderful being able to obtain the item near to my home, saving me about 1 1/2 hours (round trip) of travel to his location. I might add, in closing, that John was extremely pleasant to deal with on the phone. He represents his company well.

Based on my interaction Pep Boys is the worst auto part & service shop, due to the fact its the first time I have been scammed. I went in to get my driver side mirror fixed. I called, provided my VIN number and was promised the part will be ordered and scheduled the repair for the next day. The part was suppose to be in at 12 ish, but called at 10:30 ish to verify status of the delivery, but was told that the part is not coming at the 12:00 ish delivery because it was never ordered. Then they promised to order the part and provided them with the details about the part. Then they promised me that it will be in at 2:00, the part came but this time they ordered the wrong part. then they said they will install the one they ordered and call me when the new part comes in, I am still waiting for the call. If my wife didnt accidently throw away the receipt I would have some recourse now I am SOLed. So, I ended up paying for a automatic heated mirror but got a manual non heated mirror. Wow, that is called getting ripped off.
