This review is in regards to my experience with Bratschi Plumbing of Winnetka and inspection of a RPZ valve (required for sprinkler systems). After Bratschi inspected our RPZ valve, it was determined that it was not working properly and an estimate of $512 was given for the repair and inspection. As this seemed high, I researched repair kits for the make/model RPZ valve we had and found them online for $36. As there was no guarantee that a repair would still pass the test, I researched a new RPZ valve and found/bought the exact model for $216 delivered and ready to install (vs. $530 to repair old model). I wrote Bratschi and inquired about the difference between repairing and replacing, and after a 2 week wait received a letter that informed me that Illinois law requires this inspection and their prices were their prices, and their price included the cost of submitting the inspection report. Suffice it to say we found another plumber to inspect the valve for $130 (including reporting it to the city), so we had a new valve for $200 less than a repaired valve. In spite of not fixing the valve we still received a bill for $196 from Bratschi for the 10 minute evaluation. I have no issues with businesses charging what they want to charge for services/materials, but I want to forewarn people that businesses are willing to take advantage of unknowing customers with this city required service on a fairly simple device.

Not sure about the other reviewer but I had the complete opposite experience and experienced high quality plumbing and professional customer service. When we bought our home, the home inspector pointed out several "cheap" shortcuts the previous owners took with other local plumbers. We decided to call Bratschi based on their reputation of a long history in the community. Anyone around that long has to be doing something right. They came and fixed our immediate issues and then did not up-sell but rather gave us a plan for what needed to be fixed, when it should be updated and why. Our plumbing under the kitchen sink is a mess and the connection between the disposal and dishwasher is completely incorrect (thanks to another North Shore plumbing company taking short-cuts). A suggestion was made to replace it all now - or wait until the disposal needs to be replaced which could be soon or could be in 5 years. Never was I made to feel like I needed to spend more than I needed to. I was very happy overall with Bratschi Plumbing and will definitely use them again.

We recently purchased a new home and had Bratschi Plumbing come out to address our plumbing issues that we were facing. Phil was able to quickly spot problems that were missed during our home inspection. Phil was honest and on point; we could find a company to patch our problem like the previous plumbing companies did or just have Bratschi fix the problem. We are very fortunate to use their expertise in addressing problems that could have caused thousands in damage if not corrected. Bratschi is a great family owned and operated business! We will be using them from now on!

Do not use these guys. They will rip you off anywhere they see money lying around. Be prepared to pay hundreds more for equal or lesser quality. I have had three terrible experiences with them. Use a neighboring plumber from the next town and you will be glad you did.

They are the best of the best, independently owned, honest staff and they care about their customers.
