I would give zero stars if possible. This post office is terrible, I was employed there, and I usually have pretty tough skin. First off, the secretary is rude and did NOT listen to everything I said (which led to a MAJOR communication issue, see reason #2)- she also acted as though I was naive and a moron. She also seemed angry, mean, and always in a bad mood. Second, I went there a different day after the interview, to drop off my birth certificate so they could use it as my 2nd form of ID. I gave it to a clerk there, and he assured me it would be in good hands and he would put it in the secretaries mailbox right away. NOPE. THEY LOST IT. The secretary said she never got it (and when asked to check her mailbox again, she wouldnt, she just said she knew it wasnt there). I have never gotten it back. Do NOT leave them with important documents! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Now I dont know where my birth certificate is, if they lost it, it couldve ended up in the garbage for all I know, and its possible some bum could get their hands on it and steal my identity. Third, while I was employed there, most of the people "training" me, would ditch me, and I would just be standing there feeling stupid cause I had no idea what to do. And this was a 7 day a week job, only like 2 days off a month, so everyone else you work with can have every or every other weekend off, but not you. They also seem to think you know everything right off the bat, and if you dont after like a week or two (which you wont know everything by then), they think youre an idiot. They do not want to spend time training people and only like 2 or 3 people were willing to help the newbie. The rest didnt care at all. There are not many friendly people there, even the supervisors arent that nice. I went home and cried all the time because I hated this job more than any other Ive had because other workers there made it a horrible experience. It took me about 1.5 to 2 years to get a job at USPS, and now I wasted all that time, and I have a lost birth certificate to show for it? So I definately suggest NOT working for USPS at this location, or even at all. It is not worth all the embarrassement, disrespect, hardly no days off, anger, blood, sweat, tears, and irresponsible things that they do. Stay away from this post office!

I would give this place zero stars if it would allow me to. I made a phone call this morning at 9:40 AM a male employee answered the phone who was very monotone. I told him that I just had a quick question and that I was trying to deliver a manila envelope that had only two pieces of paper in it so it was very light and it got sent back to me stating that I needed .70 more for the package, so I asked him if I would be able to just put one more stamp on there or if I needed more? He decided to reply to me as, I think you should just take it to the post office so that way they can do the Correct way. I said, OK, but can I just put another stamp on it and send it myself? He again repeated the exact same sentence not answering my question, so then I said, I understand that I can bring it into the post office and you guys can do it, but my point is that Im very busy and Im unable to make it into the post office and I just wanted to know if I could add One or two more stamps, so that I can send it in the mail myself? He again just repeated himself with the exact same words verbatim, as if he was a robot, still not answering my question! I then decided to just say, thank you for not actually answering my question and repeating yourself the entire time, and then hung up! I then decided to call the post office with the number 294-9005 and a gentleman answered the phone there who is very polite and had a very pleasant voice and I asked him the exact same question, telling him the exact same thing, and he said hold on one second maam I will go calculate that for you and tell you how many more stamps you would have to add to your envelope he said give me one moment and before he left I thanked him and said, I really do appreciate you actually answering my question and helping me out considering the last guy I just talk to wouldnt even answer my question and was rude and just kept repeating himself! He even apologize for that male and said, Im sorry that happened, give me one moment and I will tell you how many more stamps you need. He then went and calculated it up and told me how much more I would need and I am now able to put my letter into the mail!

My best friend and I leave for Mexico today... we booked the trip back in March. She applied for her passport at this location in early April. As of last week she STILL didnt have her passport and according to the US dept of state website she never even applied..aka this post office NEVER processed or lost her application and check for $80. Every time we called the post office between May - a week ago the passport office went straight to voicemail and we never received a call back or one lady said "oh yeah your passports on its way! dont worry" Still worried we called the US dept of State and the lady from there told us they NEVER received an application for a passport and we need to go to the nearest Federal Passport Agency immediately to get one because we were leaving in a week! Guess where the nearest passport Agency is? Minneapolis or Chicago! So we took an entire day to drive to and from Minneapolis to spend $210.00 + gas on an expedited passport because of the POST OFFICE error. If we never would have called the US dept of state she never wouldve known the post office never processed/sent in her application and we wouldnt be leaving for Mexico today.

After complaining multiple times about my misdelivered mail, that had personal sensitive information on it, and complaining about receiving someone elses mail (she didnt even read the address) nothing was done. I spent a lot of time complaining and talked directly to the post master and she did NOTHING. The US postal service in cedar rapids is a joke. The worst customer service and service ever.

This is the main post office for the area with all of the standard postal services available, including P.O. boxes. I usually skip the wait at the counter and use the self-serve kiosk after hours. I like that they havent updated the building, retaining its old school charm.

Applying for a passport here is great. You dont have to stand in a long line cause they make an appointment with you. The guy who does the application process is thorough and pleasant! Vey grateful for his customer service in an industry that could be a lot worse.

I would give this place zero stars if I could. The lady with blonde hair and glasses discriminates against people with mental illness.
