I havent been in a stylists chair in ten years. Im a 25 year old male and Ive had the same hairstyle--very long, very straight, and parted in the center--since I was 15. I loved my hair, but it was time for a change. I picked G Spot based on the alternative bent conveyed by its web site, a handful of online reviews, and a gut feeling. The stylist, Lela, must have been psychic because immediately she suggested doing something different than whatevers in style with the 20-something Hollister-wearing set I see every time I step out the door (okay, those werent here exact words, but we were clearly on the same page). She suggested something simple but contemporary, shortish but a little shaggy, which sounded fine to me, and then got right to work. My heart skipped a few beats as she cut off 18 or 20 inches of my hair (which I donated to Locks of Love, of course), but half an hour later--after I asked her to trim the bangs just a little bit higher--it looked fantastic! I still havent quite gotten the hang of putting "product" in it like she did, but even though I havent had a haircut in 10 years, I can say for sure that this is by far the happiest Ive ever been with a cut. G Spot has a reputation for doing complicated dye jobs, dreadlocks, and other more unorthodox styles, which I as a little nervous about because Im not of the sort that does anything very flashy when it comes to personal style, but even though wed just met, Lela gave me a cut that was absolutely "me": simple but stylish, understated but fun, and--I have it on the authority of several (straight) female friends--very sexy. The atmosphere at G Spot is great as well: Its on the first floor of an old house with a nice open layout, very clean and well-lit with interesting art on the walls. Everyone I talked to there was nice and very friendly, and I was offered water and coffee. The music was good, too. I felt welcome, comfortable, and taken care of. I cant recommend Lela and G Spot enough!

$172 - what a shock (and a ripoff). I went to G Spot with pretty high expectations, but they really fell short. I wasnt happy with my highlights from a different salon because they were a bit brassy, so I came here thinking theyd be competent and friendly. I either wanted my highlights fixed, to get lowlights to balance them, or to dye my hair darker altogether to get rid of it all. My stylist was Angela. First of all, she was not very personable and hardly tried to talk to me beyond the initial communication about my hair, but that itself wasnt a dealbreaker. She told me that it would be a bad idea to dye it darker or get lowlights because the color would be ashy, so her only option was to do a heavy highlight. She only did the top half of my head, and in all honesty it didnt take that long or require a ton of foils. Yet when I went to check out, the total was $172 and some change (and I didnt get a haircut - thats the color service alone). I didnt even have that much money, so I called my mom in tears for her to do a banking transfer online. How humiliating. Angela gave me a discount card for my next visit, but I dont know why she thought Id ever return. My hair was super bleach blonde and she missed a critical spot near my forehead (nearly an inch of roots that was very noticeable because of how bright the blonde highlights were). The next weekend I went to my trusted stylist in Omaha, who was floored by my story. Not only did she tell me this stylist ripped me off, but also that she lied about the possibility of doing lowlights/dying it dark. The color would have only been ashy if the wrong color was used. Interestingly, my competent stylist in Omaha was able to dye my hair a beautiful brown-auburn color, no problem! How G Spot has a positive reputation is beyond me. I wish I had never taken my chances here; it was just a waste of money.

I went to G Spot for the three years I lived in Iowa City. Originally I went out of convenience of it being practically in my "back yard" but I went back because of the quality service I got on nearly every visit. I am not a big talker during haircuts and Michelle was always super good about that. Wed talk and catch up and talk about what I wanted done with my hair but I never felt like she was prying. During the time that I lived in IC I had her dye my hair and give me highlights and low-lights -- all which turned out amazing. She always had a knack of knowing exactly how to manage my curly hair. G Spot also introduced me to Bumble & Bumble products and Ive never looked back! Theyre amazing. Now that Ive moved I can tell you the countless times Ive seriously considered driving back to IC to get a haircut because either it is really expensive ($50-60) or its priced normally and I end up fixing it myself." All in all, I really respected the time that Michelle took to learn about my expectations and the fact that she could always think of innovative ways to give me a stylish haircut all while Ive been growing it out long!

Upon reading the reviews for G Spot, I felt completely comfortable getting my hair cut there. Alas, it was the worst hair experience of my life. I told the hair dresser that I wanted my hair how it was and explained that it was only an inch shorter before and that I needed my bangs trimmed, taken up a little in the back, and my layers shortened. I even brought in pictures of hairstyles similar to what I wanted. I proceeded to explain to her to only take a small amount off and if i wanted to go shorter Id let her know. She either didnt listen to a word I said or she messed up so much that she had to keep going shorter. Needless to say, I ended up walking out of there with hair that was 3 to 4 inches shorter, and I didnt even have the chance to see what she was doing as she was cutting it because she had me turned away from the mirror the entire time so I didnt know what was going on. Furthermore, she never once checked with me to see if she was heading in the right direction. Now I must walk around with this ridiculous haircut until it grows out and is long enough to get cut again.

I had a consult for dreadlock maintenance and extensions , I was price quoted $400 for the extension work and $50 for the hair. the price was way to steep for medium length extensions. so I just made an appointment for maintenance . she charged me 100$ for an hours work. I explained the issues I was having with small hairs coming out around my forehead. she began right away with napping and crochet hooking the dreads. which is what you do to manage and make dreads. I was very pleased with this however, less than a month later I realized I spent way to much money when a lot of the work starts coming undone. she had mentioned she wasnt even sure it would hold on because of my length. I guess I should have listened and just walked out cuz now I feel like a dumbass. the extensions would have helped with my length issue. from what I did see it was truly a inviting and comfortable atmosphere. they even allowed my 3 year old to play with some faux head dolls.
