Rented a townhouse in Coralville through them for two years. Probably one of the better realtors in the Iowa City/Coralville area. Pros: Customer service was always friendly and prompt when I spoke to them Always called me 24hr+ ahead of time before entering property Price was reasonable Maintenance was fantastic: I had maintenance out to the place 4-5 times over the course of my lease for major repairs (AC/Disposal/Water Heater/etc) and they were always there the next business day on time and very proficient. Cons: Spent two days cleaning and left the place nearly spotless (much cleaner than before I moved in since the place sat empty for months) yet was still charged $240 for misc cleaning. They scheduled and performed a $200 carpet cleaning before even setting foot inside to take a look at the carpet, at least appt downtown has the courtesy to put bullshit carpet cleaning charges in their lease. They charged me $100 to patch/repaint two quarter sized drywall holes (I even provided the paint!). You have to tell them in February if youre going to renew your August lease, seems quite excessive to me but I guess its a college town and they have the market for it. Overall I had a positive experience theyre probably one of the better choices for realtors in the area, the deductions from my deposit were excessive in my opinion. If youre going to rent from them just ensure you take before/after pictures in addition to the move in checklist, and be with the inspectors on the move out inspection because they will go apartments downtown on your ass if you let them.

This totally lame, dishonest outfit, Westwinds, manages Rochester Hills here in east Iowa City. Retirement-aged folks buy condo units and a fractional interest in the surrounding open greens, or "Commons". We pay a monthly fee to cover mowing, watering, leaf & snow removal and repair, maintenance and replacements of items such as roofs, mailboxes & cement. I moved into this set-up in September, 2010. In December, 2011, my three skylights commenced leaking. I knew something was wrong, as they hadnt leaked the prior winter. So I called Westwinds, who said it was nothing but condensation from rising heat & that a little dripping was normal. They didnt even come over to look at it! So I reported it to the Association, and everyone there gave me the same song and dance except for one retired engineer who knew something was wrong, but was not in a position to render me aid. Confused, I just set out pans to catch the water when it leaked. But finally I called Westwinds and told them to come over. By this time there was damage in those high skylight tunnels inside, on the paint. I was told all the damage and the repair up on the roof was on me, because they said a skylight is a window and residents had to repair their own windows. So I said, just fix whats wrong up on the roof and let the damage inside go, that Id just live with the damage. They did that and sent me a bill for $250. it turned out to be improper sealing of the skylight flashing during a roofing job.

I lived in Iowa City where landlord and rental companies are notorious for being scammers. They take advantage of Iowa City college students over and over again. I was hoping to get away from that moving to Coralville into a property owned by WestWinds. Boy, was I wrong. One of my roommates contacted the WestWinds front office to complain about our broken washer and dryer. The woman responded with, "We didnt even know anyone was living there." How do you not know something like that? Where was our money going? It took weeks for our washer and dryer to get fixed. We complained about other broken appliances, but they were NEVER fixed. They put on a facade that they care and will get things done as quickly as possible, but nothing EVER gets done. We also had a mice problem - yuck! We contacted WestWinds numerous times. Once again, nothing was done. Upon us moving out, mice were still present, and I doubt theyll do anything before other tenants move in there. They were also charging us an extra $25 a month for pets which we did not have in the apartment. We received less than half of our deposit back for ridiculous charges. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN OR RECOMMEND ANYONE RENT FROM THEM. Sure, they sound great for selling and buying houses, but as for leasers - stay away.

Westwinds is the best property management company in Iowa City. Whether you are a property owner looking for someone to manage it or a tenant looking for a place to stay, Westwinds is the place to go. Westwinds have managed my property for the last 2 years. I turned to Westwinds after experiencing a lot of frustrations from Southgate Property Management. My experience with Westwinds has been amazing. Their friendly staff is very knowledgeable and has excellent customer service. Not only does Westwinds strive to ensure that my properties are rented, but they also ensure that the property is well maintained and they keep me posted on everything that is going on with my properties. They involve me in decision making on my property and they answer my questions appropriately and promptly. I have been very happy with their management and I can trust that my property will be well managed by Westwinds. If you are looking for a place to stay, look no further than westwinds. Not only do they have the best prices in town but they also ensure that their tenants needs are met and any tenant concerns are addressed appropriately and very promptly. They have excellent customer service with highly experienced staff. You will be happy to rent from Westwinds.

I currently live in one of their apartments and I wish I didnt. Prior to move in I was asked if I wanted to move in at a certain date and I agreed. They were cleaning the apartment and carpets the day before. The carpet was stained so badly the steamer didnt even touch the stains. There are seams all throughout the apartment and my puppy got ahold of one. It took months for that to get repaired and all they did was take dirty carpet from my closet and patch it. When I moved in there were multiple things broken and when I submitted them to get fixed it took almost 3 months for anyone to even come into the apartment to fix anything. They continued to blame someone else and ignore my worries about the broken items. The carpet still has stains and often smells like cats and as I stated I have a dog not a cat. The apartment itself was a nice layout and I looked at a different one prior to moving into this one. Assuming theyd all be the same but I was wrong. The people in the apartment are rude for the most part and the staff at westwinds pretends to care and try to help when they never actually do. If you want a crappy place to live with crappy office staff and no maintenance getting done this is the place for you. Id move if I could...

I was VERY disappointed with the customer service and response time at Westwinds - enough that I decided not to rent from them. Found a great apartment in an area I liked, but first could not get the company or even the listing agent to return my call. When I finally was able to make an appointment to view the apartment, the listing agent, Rob, was almost 15 minutes late and offered no explanation. My tour was then very rushed, and he could not answer any of my questions. He left the apartment after about 5 minutes and left me alone in someone elses home. Despite this I sent in my application and $25 app fee, at which time the girl in the office promised me they would call me with a decision within two days. A week passed...nothing. I left several voicemails with both the Westwinds office and with Rob and no one ever called me back. I finally had to go into the office and ask about my application - the office girls response: "oh it was approved a week ago, didnt they call you?. Terrible experience, horrible customer service. Think twice before you do business with them. Obviously you, the person who will be paying them several hundred dollars a month, are not important to them. Dont waste your time.
