I made an appointment/reservation online to rent a unit and got a phone call later that day to confirm the appointment. Went in at the scheduled time, and it kind of seemed like nothing was really ready for me. This was my first time renting a storage unit, so I didnt know I needed my own lock. I guess if I needed one, I thought someone may have mentioned it, especially when they knew I was renting for the first time. My boyfriend went and got one while I filled out paperwork, and when he got back, the manager said it was the wrong kind. She never specified what kind I would need. I was a little frustrated at this point because it was starting to take longer than expected. She then proceeds to push stuff on me, such as boxes and mattress covers. I told her I didnt need boxes and I had an old sheet to put my mattress on. She said the sheet wouldnt have been enough, because the mattress would get dirty and spiders and other bugs would get all over it and the sheet wouldnt prevent water damage if any water got into the unit. She had somewhat convinced me to get it, but pretty much forced it on me. Then we went to check out the unit. It was an outside unit so I didnt expect it to be shiny clean, but I did expect them to have swept the unit and gotten all of the trash out of it from the last tenant. It would have been one thing if the manager hadnt come with us to look at the unit, but it was another that she did and saw the mess and proceeded to do nothing about it. I started moving my stuff and I put the mattress cover on my mattress and I just started laughing because it was filled with holes, and its not like it sealed at the end to prevent anything from getting on it. My old sheet would have been fine. It was such a waste of my money. (P.S. You can get ANY moving supplies public storage at uhaul for half the price or less). I wasnt even going to write a review after moving in because at that point I was tired and didnt care. Now I am writing a review because I moved my stuff out of the unit and today went to go get checked out. I went there at 2 and nobody was there. The sign said they wouldnt be back until 3:30 (which seems like an awfully long time to be out of the office). I had another appointment at 3:30 so I went back there at around 4:30. I went into the office, and the manager that was in the office said she was on a lunch break and couldnt check me out right then, but she would do it later. Luckily she said I didnt have to be there. I asked her if she would call me after she checked it out and she said yes. I never got a phone call. I am completely displeased with this place and I dont think its at all worth it, even if the first month is only a dollar. Hopefully theyll find a convenient time for themselves to get me checked out before they charge me another months rent.

If you decide to give this business one dollar, you are taking a risk that you WILL regret. Not maybe, you WILL. 4 reviews...all with the lowest star rating possible. Do the math. Here are some highlights to consider: 1) The office itself should be condemned as a public health risk. Think instant lung cancer. You could literally tape an ash tray to your mouth/nose area and smell fresher air. They staff clearly smokes behind the counter. The Kansas Department of Public Health should be notified immediately. 2) Check-in: forget using online reservations. You will book for one rate, then encounter the old "bait and switch" scam. The rate you are quoted does not include the "special lock" they will add to your bill without your consent. Oh, and did I mention that it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete the signing? Thats right. And no chairs in the office. Plan on standing to the point of exhaustion. 3) INSURANCE. Youll be using it. See below. 4) LOSS OF GOODS: After 2 1/2 months, I showed up on 10/31 to remove my belongings. Upon entering the unit, I noticed an odor. After clearing away the items closest to the door, I noticed...wait for it... water damage. My bed, entertainment center, and several boxes were ruined. Soaked. Mildew/Mold. So, either there was a leak above, or water came in under the metal panels. Luckily, I have insurance. I plan on using it. I also plan on calling my credit card (Visa) to stop any additional charges. 5) STAFF: The nastiest group of individuals Ive ever had the displeasure of interacting with. I gave them the courtesy of a call to cancel the unit and notify them of the damage to my goods. No return call...until... the next day, about 20 minutes after I called the insurance company to file a claim. Then, I received a call from the "Manager" who proceeded to lecture me. She not only did not apologize for the damage ("your stuff is not OUR responsibility...thats why you buy insurance!"), she threatened to charge me a cleaning and removal fee (and the threat that she will be contacting credit agencies to ding my credit report) for leaving behind the damaged items for them to deal with. Im NOT going to haul once-pristine furniture that is now mold-infested, worthless garbage. While I was polite and patient, I was interrupted and addressed as "honey" with the snarky tone of a rude, miserable human being. In short- avoid them at all cost. In fact, do not rent at any of the Public Storage facilities in the immediate area, as they are owned/managed by the same despicable people. If youve had issues with them--- I encourage you to file a complaint with Johnson County, BBB, write reviews online, call their corporate office... THEN, contact your bank immediately, as well as your insurer if you experienced damage to your personal property.

This is probably one of the best customer service anyone could ever ask for. Nannette was a great help although she stated that she was training, she did a very detailed job of explaining the requirements to getting a storage. She engaged in warming conversations to eliminate awkward client to customer moment. Pam was also great, she participated in the conversations and made sure the energy was positively good. Kandice was also present during my visit and together these 3 make a very strong team and would impress any client that walks through those doors. Great way to start my busy day, in my opinion all 3 of these women deserve a raise or at least a well deserved compensated gesture from management.

After seeing lots of advertised promotions, I thought that maybe I could get a good deal on temporary storage from Public Storage. But after visiting this location, I learned that there are tons of hidden fees and restrictions. Supposedly my first month would be only $1, but in the end it wound up costing over $35. The $1 special only applies if you buy a special $17 lock that isnt sold anywhere but at Public Storage facilities - can we say "rip off"? Not to mention that youre required to pay for $8 per month in insurance fees, on top of the already high rates. This national corporation is full of tricks to be sure they make plenty of money while offering a basic and simple service.
